Yeah, sometimes these guys have logistical problems, but at the end of the day, they are good guys with very good food. Stopped in today and the second counter person was prompt in asking me what I wanted, while someone else was in front of me ordering. He threw in an extra bialy for my small order of 3 bagels… I like that. Good customer service. Out the door in under 5 mins. Thanks.

I like this place. The bagels are good. The service is good. Been training for NYC marathon. After a long run, refuel with turkey, swiss cheese, a little mayo, lettuce and tomato on a hard roll. Perfection. Okay, today. Still kinda tired and hungry from yesterday’s half-marathon and then a 5 hour drive from New Hampshire and the New Hampshire Marathon, Half and 10K race.(An aside, I ran a personal best.) Today craving my turkey sandwich. A busy, end of the day Sunday at the shop. No hard rolls. Put it on a bagel, okay. The swipe machine for my credit card, not working. The one guy who knows how to fix it? Can’t find him. I schlep to the bank. Get $ 20. Return. The cash register, not enough singles. At that point, I rest my head on the counter. The poor guy behind the counter, god knows what he is thinking. Gives me a discount. Thank you. Sorry for the mini-drama. Bake Ridge is one of the many reasons why I am going to kick it at the NYC Marathon this year. Please have some hard rolls, a working credit card machine, and your continued good humor on Marathon Day and all the rest of my long run refuel training days.

Terranova’s(Bake Ridge Bagels) is a lot more than bagels. I like that they have healthier choices all around, such as baked rather than fried potato or pita chips, and better beverages such as Honest Tea and Boylan sodas. They have a big variety of food but I’m only interested in the vegetarian offerings that can be made vegan. Pretty much, that means ordering several veggie side dishes to make a whole meal, or having them stuffed into a wrap. A freshly-made wrap is so much better than a refrigerated pre-made one anyway. Terranova’s has several sides such as garlic sauteed green beans, broccoli rabe, and roasted seasonal vegetables. The roasted medley is vegetarian but probably not vegan since it has baked breaded eggplant that probably contains a small amount of egg. I don’t bother asking the counter people about specific ingredients that aren’t obviously visible. They really are clueless kids. When I ask whether the prepared veggie wraps have cheese, they pick up each wrap and examine it, doh. They poke into all the wraps with the same plastic-gloved fingers… and handle money at the register wearing those same gloves, eew. Also, expect to find crumbs or granules of sugar on the tables since the staff don’t get much around to wiping them down. The general pace of the store is pretty slow.

The food has been pretty good. Very good bagels. They do a little too much scrambling of the egg on bacon egg and cheeses etc. Where this place goes horribly wrong is in the operation. It’s a mess. You order and then hover around the register. They need to clean this up. I should be paid by the time my food is ready. Any half decent manager or owner could clean this up in 5 minutes. Serious pitfall. I don’t go here at time because I know it’s going to frustrate me. This morning for example, about ten people rolled their eyes while standing around the register.
