I did not attend the Dominican Day parade yesterday,(due to inclement weather) but since am from Brooklyn and needed a place to celebrate my Dominican heritage. I came to the South side of Williamsburg(where there’s a significant population of people from the D.R.). This place is definitley a hole in the wall, in a mostly quiet strip on Roebling Street and it stood out like a sore thumb. I love the music blasting from the DJ’s,(hip hop, top 40, reggaeton, mambo urbano, bachata, and merengue) the sexy mamis, the drinks. Stop. Man the drinks, bold and beautiful is all that I could say. It was in my opinion the best mixed Hennesy with cranberry I ever had. Hookah smoke everywhere, I’m not a fan of hookahs, because of my asthma. The only con I have with Alma Lounge, is that its sleek interior should be more straightfoward, lets just say that once this place gets packed, its a clausterphobics nightmare. This place is small. But its definitely more loungy less clubby. I think Alma has a lot of potential, but I just wished that it was more spacious.

I came here for my birthday with some buddies. We got there around 11:30 and the place was empty. Spoke to the bouncer outside and he told me that the ladies could get in for free but the the guys all had to pay $ 20. This place is a little bit of a money trap. $ 20 to get in a club this size in this neighborhood is outrageous. The bouncer let me haggle down to ten so I guess all is fair. The bouncers were cool dudes. Then they tried to make me check in my blazer. Not cool. Drinks are also ridiculously overpriced. I was charges 9 smackers for a Corona. A friend of mine paid for his drink with his credit card only to be told that he could only pay with his credit card if he brought at least three drinks. The seedy part was that the bartender told him only after he had already began drinking his first drink. The drink was a Jack and Coke by the way and costed 12 greenbacks. Really bro? Its a nice looking place on the inside. Alma is also small. However once the place began to pack out, the crowd that showed up was good. Two pretty hot chicks actually made out right in front of me.(And thats were you got your third star Alma) They also let women in for free, so the women to men ratio was pretty favorable for us fellas. They also have hookahs. The bathrooms are pretty nice and unisex. A cleaning woman walked in on me in one of the stalls, which would have been cool, if not for the fact that she let herself in after I locked it. Good thing I was just texting at the time. Overall Alma is a decent place with lots of potential.
