I’ve never been on such opposite ends of the extreme on food and service… I normally don’t factor in service in my ratings, that’s to say that exceptional service for a place serving amazing food doesn’t really move the needle for me so much. In addition, I’ve historically had a good correlation of good food with good service. My experience here, was not one of them. Ordered: Chicken Biriyani(Really delicious, mixed well with the rice and super flavorful) Signature Lazez Tikka Masala(yummy and creamy, fairly solid) Tawa Fish Masala(spicier than expected, but that’s not a bad thing. Excellent swordfish) Yogurt Ginger Lamb Curry(boneless lamb is very tender and moist, yogurt curry was creamy, but not as spicy/flavorful as I was hoping) Long and short of it, food was above average, especially the seafood. But the service was abysmal. Took ages for the food to come out, and ages x 2 for them to give us the bill, and then accordingly, ages to the ages power to collect the bill. Granted it was a Friday night, not cool with me though.

I have mixed feelings, as well as some kind of wistfulness about what this place is versus what it could be. I’m working through it. The food is good: I’ve ordered several things, and have always been pleased, even though I’m no Indian food connis… conness. look, I’m not a foodie. But when I want Indian food, I order from here. The service has always been perfectly nice too, with attentive waitstaff, in my experiences there. But here’s the problem: the space is too big, too dark, and dated. They need to paint the place in bright, welcoming colors and get rid of the weird blue lighting behind the bar. The big windows are both the best and worst things about the place: in the summer, they open up and are very inviting, making the outside area they set up on the sidewalk seem even better. However, when the place is empty, it looks *dreadfully* empty, and makes me sad.

I’ve had better. Try Punjab Palace in Allston or India Quality in Kenmore. The restaurant was empty at 7:30pm on a Wednesday… waitstaff was pretty inattentive considering we were the only ones there. The star of the meal was the naan with raisins and nuts. Mmm.

WOW! What a great spot for some genuinly good indian cuisine. clean, great ambience, friendly and knowledgable wait staff and good food. ordered: rosemary naan(awesome!) chicken tikka, mild(good, but a little too spicy for me– being that it was mild) Shahi bhuna paneer(awesome!) Spinach and potato tikki(AWESOME!) Gulabjuman(SOYUMMY!) Enjoyed a crisp glass of the house chardonnay as well… over all the meal was delicious and the timing was perfect.

Finally some good Indian food! Excellent curries… fantastic rogan josh… all with the requisite heat. The manager was also a very nice fellow. I will return!

Came here for dinner on a Wednesday. Food: It’s fine. Not as good as India Quality in Kenmore or Mela in South End. Overall, rather bland. Okra was very oily; rosemary naan was intense and excellent. Service: Fine but not great. My boyfriend accidentally knocked over my water glass. Fortunately, he didn’t break it. The waiter took it and helped us clean up but forgot to replace the glass. The waiter also didn’t notice when I’d finished my cocktail(halfway through the meal) and didn’t offer another. We weren’t asked what level of spiciness we wanted; the dishes were pretty mild. Atmosphere: This is the worst part. I don’t mind almost completely empty restaurants, which ours was, but the place was very dark and rather dreary. It would help if they put candles on the tables.

I am by no means an Indian food connoisseur but I have had my fair share of Indian food and this was probably my least favorite Indian place. We came here with a friend and his mom because she was leaving for India in a couple of days and wanted to try lobster Indian style. After a long search, it seemed that Tamarind Bay was the only Indian place that served lobster. We ordered the lobster which was tiny. Only one tail and no claws… And that cost over $ 20… Lobster is dirt cheap now. You can get a pound for $ 3.99 at Market Basket! With that price, we expected more. We ordered the roti and rosemary naan since I’ve never seen rosemary naan on a menu before and wanted to try. Both were disappointing. The naan was flat and hard and not fluffy and doughy. The roti was super hard and didn’t taste good at all. For the main course, we got lamb biryani and a chicken dish. The lamb biryani wasn’t mixed. The rice was white and they just threw the sauce over the rice. They definitely didn’t put any love into making that. I don’t even remember the chicken so that’s not a good sign. There are so many other Indian places around that it would be shame to come back here and eat bad food. Look elsewhere for Indian.

Probably the best Indian buffet in town. They use the best ingredients and the food is excellent. The southern chick peas is a dish I recommend ordering off the menu. My husband is a fan of their fish and chicken dishes. They also have some simple but tasty cocktails.

I like the food at Tamarind Bay, but I feel it’s a little over priced. I usually order Chicken Korma and an extra serving of rice and it comes to $ 20. It’s usually a bit more than I can eat, but it still feels a little pricey The food is good, not great. But it is definitely worth trying, and the menu is a bit different from the usual Indian fare(the Korma is not what I’m used to, it’s more vegetable based).

Great ambiance and location. Courteous staff and yummy food. There’s good variety here and if you’re looking for spice look no further. We went on a very chilly winter evening, and were promptly greeted and seated. Followed by drinks, apps and dinner, the entire evening went smoothly. They have great cocktails and are very reasonably priced. I will definitely be back!

This Indian restaurant is conveniently located in my neighborhood(Washington Square, Brookline). It is smaller but certainly not crowded like some restaurants I have been to. They have outdoor seating in the warmer months that expands the size of the restaurant. I really like the tall windows on th façade, which are also opened up when it is nicer out. The décor is clean and classic and has a nice vibe at night. Now to the food, it is delicious. I have been here several times due to its proximity to my house and I have never been disappointed. It is a little different than some other Indian cuisine I’ve tried, but my tastes are not refined enough to know why that is(i.e. region, style, etc.). I only eat fish and vegetables, so that is all I have tried. My friends have tried the meat options and love them, however. Everything is always flavorful and satisfying. The portions are large enough to share, which I always enjoy. My favorites are the Goan Mirchi Shrimp and the Chana Kotmir.

Went here in a small group so I got to taste several different dishes. Everything was so delicious! One of the persons in this group is Indian and she called the food«the real deal» and«Indian approved!» The portions are reasonable and the prices are fair(about $ 15 per plate). I only wish they would have provided a bowl of rice per person.

I got take out from Tamarind Bay tonight so this review is based soley on the food. I also just tried Indian food for the first time in my life a few months ago. Since then I have been wanting to try it again and figured I would try Tamarind Bay since I live right down the street. I had the Chicken Tika Masala and Rosemary Naan. It was soo good! It was pretty spicy but really declicious. The Naan came with 3 different dipping sauces that were all really good…2 sweet ones and one with dill. I don’t have much to base this on since I am new to Indian food but Tamarind Bay has officially made me love it!

Washington Square on the the(C Cleveland Circle) Green Line! MMMMMMM Indian food… This is one of the more upscale Indian places I’ve been too, and I’ve certainly got nothing to complain about, but I give it only four stars because it’s not«as good as it gets.» I always say«–3» to any Indian place whose Naan doesn’t automatically come with the meal. The service was really nice and helpful, the décor was elegant, and the food was presented beautifully. This’d be an awesome place for a date night, but if you’re going on a weekend, be sure to make a reservation. For an appetizer, I had the Ginger Tomato Shorba Soup, which was definitely the highlight of the meal. It was a really warming, delicious soup with an amazing depth in flavors. It’s a bit on the spicy side from the ginger(though I feel like there might have been some sort of chilis in there too), and it builds but all in a really good way. Great for dunking the pampadom! For my main I had the Nilgiri Chicken Korma. This was not really what I associate with Korma(thick, creamy, blonde –colored, sauce, and very mild as far as heat goes), but it was still pretty dang good. I would have called it a Jalfrezi, if not just the catch all«curry.» Again, a little on the spicy side, and the large chunks of veggies were an enjoyable change-up. Friends with me had the Lalla Musa Dal and the Tandoori Salmon. The Dal was really rich and buttery(almost too much so), and its flavor reminded me exactly of butter balls — those small round shortbread christmas cookies that are covered in powdered sugar. As for the salmon: I had recently renounced any cooked salmon, but this steak brought me back into the light. The tandoori flavors had soaked all the way through, and the fish was cooked perfectly; very moist with a perfect crispy sear on the outside. Well done Tamarind Bay, but you need to serve Naan with your meal if you want 5 stars from me!

Went to this place a month or so ago and was VERY impressed. Terrific ambiance, clientele, and — most importantly– DELICIOUS food. I highly recommend the garlic PARATHA! Holy crap. I love my carbs as much as the next guy, but add on some garlic and onions and it is heavenly. I went with the mixed seafood curry and it was packed with scallops, shrimp, and huge chunks of swordfish. Stuff like that makes me a happy man. Anywhoo, this place pretty much has it all. The service was great, too. Our server took his time and told us exactly what we could expect from each dish, as we aren’t too versed in Indian cuisine. Why take a chance going anywhere else when you KNOW you’ll have a great Indian meal at this place?

I am well versed in Indian cuisine-it’s my favorite and I have sampled Indian food all over Boston… AND this was slightly different than the Indian cuisine that I am used to… but I liked it :) No Chicken Tikka Masala here! Pros: — Convenient location, right in the hub of Brookline’s best nightlife/sophisticated bar scene(no undergrad out to get wasted punks allowed). –Not super crowded in comparison to the other restaurants/bars in Washington Sq. and also not as pricey. –Friendly waiter, but not the best service. –Full bar with a variety of exotic cocktails –Nice décor… trendier than the usual Indian restaurant, sans lots of traditional flair and plus some chic adornments Cons: –Not a traditional menu, so it was difficult to tell what we would like. –My friends complained that their food lacked spiciness –Papadum was not superb… tasted like a potato chip. –No red onion condiment(which I LOVE) Overall, I was happy though… definitely something different… and the dish I ordered was AMAZING. My friends sampled it and we all agreed that it was the pick of the litter… It’s called MURGHHARIMIRCHTIKKA(Boneless chicken marinated with yogurt and green chilies, tempered with curry leaf and cooked in tandoor) The garlic nan was also very good. I’ll be coming back to Tamarind…

I had been watching and waiting to see what type of restaurant was going to open in my beloved Washington Square neighborhood. I was pleasantly surprised to see Tamarind Bay open up in the lovely space with their huge front window. We went just a few days after the place opened and we were greeted with a pretty bare space. When we walked in the host immediately told us that this was a soft opening so the menu was still under construction, the décor was still in limbo and they were still training staff. The menu was quite large and had a variety of items to pick from. We started out with some nan and I had the shaahi baigan(eggplant w/a gravy). It was delicious! While the prices seemed a bit high, the food was excellent and we will definitely be heading back!
