I was recently at The Hub, 3rd Avenue and 149th Street, a commercial and transit hub with lots of cheap shopping. There are several Fabric places walking distance from the 2 train which is what I take to go home. But First, I wandered into Tony’s because anyplace that has bolts of fabric exploding out of the entrance has to meet my price point. I’m looking for some cool stretchy fabric for a project. The selection is hit and miss, but you’ll have luck if you’re looking for slipcover fabrics. There are some woven, sheer and embellished fabrics that are nice and some cheap rayon prints at $ 4 bucks a yard. Some wovens were $ 3 bucks a yard, and I didn’t see anything more expensive. Warning: The place is TINY. You have to squeeze into narrow aisles to see everything, but it’s worth investigating if you need low prices. I bought 2 yards of a cute fabric and some elastic for a project. They also have threads, hand-sewing needles, lots of trims and a few crochet needles up front. Total: $ 12. Service was nice as well. Only 3 stars cause of selection and the size of the place, makes browsing a challenge.
