I ordered from Ellie’s and I was very disappointed with my service. I give it 3 stars because the food was Okay(not great but not bad). The issue I have is that they forgot to put my drink in the bag, so I called in. On top of the fact that I was put on hold a couple times while they checked the order, the issue was never resolved. Now I understand it’s just a drink– but I ordered a drink with my food so I wouldn’t have to go to the store to buy juice before I ate my breakfast, and mind you the drink was not corner store pricing… It was a small orange juice for $ 3.50! The lady on the phone got an attitude and said you’re going to have to wait an hour for someone to bring that for you because we don’t have enough delivery people(after already waiting an hour). So fine, I get it. And so I waited… and no one ever brought the drink OR refunded my money. I also gave them a nice tip, so I felt as if my money was waisted and the service I received was very poor. I found another diner to order from nearby and won’t be ordering from there again.

I grew up in Parkchester. This was the neighborhood diner as everyone is saying in the other reviews. However, the service and the food certainly has changed. I enjoyed my meal which were the Eggs Florentine but boy did the coffee creamer was bad! It was spoiled. We had to return our coffee… It seems like they do not want their customers to come back because we did not get anything for free after the coffee creamer incident! Just sayin’.

I have been going to Ellie’s for almost 20 years and today, June 20, 2016 will be my last day. Usually, the food is good, but after the new owners took over, they turned over half the staff and the service has gone by the wayside. Now, they serve smaller portions and increased the prices. However, today specifically, I ordered from the Menu a «Thin Cut,» Philly cheesesteak on hero with fries. When I got the order, the sandwich look odd in that it appeared to be thickly cut and half the fries were not thoroughly cooked. As with the Philly cheese steak sandwich, I thought that maybe the thin slices were stuck together so I ate half. I spoke to our waitress and informed that I was not satisfied with the sandwich and that the menu said thinly cut and that it was actually thick. I informed her to notify the owners that our family has been coming to Ellie’s for 20 years plus and that whenever we experienced any issues concerning the service or food that there would be a resolution. The owner informed her, «Well, he ate half of the sandwich, so we are going to charge him for half.» Dear new Ellie’s owners, the No. 1 Rule in business is: «The customer is always right.» If you don’t have customers, then you don’t have a business! Because the owner failed to directly approach us and resolve this matter, we are going to discontinue our long & loyal patronage with Ellie’s. Dear New Ellie’s owners, you have just lost probably your best and most faithful 4 customers, and over what? «A failure to directly acknowledge and address your customer’s needs.» I hope that you make certain necessary improvements concerning your customer service practice… Unfortunately, these owners seem to be just going through the motions… Sad to learn the current state of what use to be a fine diner… Lastly, and unfortunately for Ellie’s, we are going to advise our family members and friends whom also frequent this establishment, which will eventually mean even fewer customers…

Ellies used to be that one neighborhood place you could always rely on to have good food and a friendly, welcoming ambiance. Ever since the new owners took over, the place has not been the same. The quality of service is my biggest grievance. A lot of the new waitresses need more training. The man at the cash register was too busy looking at his phone and carrying on a conversation with a waitress. He did not greet me at the register, ignored me completely while I paid, didn’t say thank you. I said thank you after he gave me my change, but he carried on with the waitress. I really loved the old Ellies, and I’m really upset that this new owner has not kept up the love.

so came to this diner today for our weekend breakfast for lunch day. the food was pretty good, I got a BEC on a plain bagel(they didn’t have poppy seed bagel) and a short stack of choco-chip pancakes. My bf got french toast and a giant meal of cheesy eggs bacon. The waiter was worried about the amount of food that was ordered and asked my boyfriend if he was really going to eat all of that… which I mean we thought was funny but essentially was really rude. He also got a mango smoothie which tasted like frozen orange juice with a pinch of mango. The food was decent but a little pricey all things considered.

Quick, tasty, old fashioned, dinner food! Oh yes, and very affordable! If that’s what you are looking for, then you are at the right place! I went in for breakfast, and before I realized and looked around, and the place was full with people waiting. I ordered toast eggs over medium bacon and home fries. I had the option of ordering grits, French fries, hash browns, but I had the home fries. The setting is not cute but serves the purpose of a comfortable place to have a hearty meal. The bathrooms are downstairs in a kind of not so great space and there were a few flies around randomly. There were at least four delivery people working simultaneously to deliver orders via bike, and people were in line to pay for their to go orders. Overall, it is what it is, and I enjoyed my food and hearty diner breakfast for $ 8.75! I give it a strong three stars!

This has been a staple in Parkchester for years. I’ve ordered from here many times. Lately I feel the quality of their food has decreased. This morning I made a breakfast order(lox, two eggs over easy and home fries) the entire plate consisted of home fries and a piece of lox for the same price! The staff needs to thoroughly fulfill orders instead of trying to maintain a quick turn over. They’re ruining their reputation and the quality many of us remember.

Well, growing up in the East Coast, Ellie’s was the neighborhood diner that everyone went too but not now… HELLNO!!! Look I’m not looking for a perfect diner but I just want my memories back… and decent food… Not this place! We ordered breakfast, easy enough… RIGHT… WRONG… How can you mess up breakfast but I guess you can. The eggs were cold and dripping in butter… Look I love butter but this looked like lotion on my eggs… and the home-fries were suppose to have a crunchy texture… Sorry guys!.. No crunch… What I keep biting into were large pieces of onions. Yuck!(toothbrush please) The coffee was disappointing more like a very water downed pepsi. The side of orange juice was the tiniest I have ever seen, more like a shot glass of orange juice… Look the service was good but since the food was subpar. I guess I have my memories!!!

DONOTSUPPORTTHISESTABLISHMENT. COOKATHOME. As everyone else has mentioned in other reviews: TERRIBLETERRIBLETERRIBLE service, MEDIOCRE diner food. This place is only in business because Parkchester residents do not have any options. Reasons why Ellie’s is shit: 1. Incompetent management and employees. Managers are rude to staff and customers assuming they are always correct when they clearly do not know how to run a small business. Learn to manage and train your employees. 2. It’s difficult to get your order taken(take out or dine-in). I ordered over the phone and arrived 10 – 15 minutes later. I stood in front of the manager at the register who saw me but did not acknowledge me or even try to assist(FOR10MINUTES). They were not busy. She was this obese lady who seemed to be stressed out when it came to using a calculator to calculate a tab. I’m sure it’s difficult to add, subtract, and hit equal. Idiot. 3. They get your order WRONG. Every time. If I call and ordered an everything bagel with lox, cream cheese, and scallions, why are you telling me you don’t have everything bagels AFTER I order it and arrive? 4. They take forever making your food with key elements of your dish missing. Ok, not a problem I’ll take a regular bagel instead of an everything bagel. BUT, I get small flimsy pieces of lox with no cream cheese or scallions but get charged $ 12 when at most the sandwich should be $ 7 – 8 max. This is PURETHIEVERY. Calculate your profit margins correctly.

I am so impressed! We recently moved into Parkchester and I’ve been really wanting to find a cute little diner to make our regular spot. Ellie’s it is! We were greeted and seated immediately — on a saturday night at dinner time. The waitress was exceptionally nice, attentive and polite. She also served us quickly and happily. The food. YUM. I’m so so impressed. I am pretty picky about food — and we ordered the Ellie’s Super Diner menu, $ 11.95 per person, this came with a soup or salad, choice of potatoe, and choice of vegetable AND a glass of wine AND a dessert! I ordered the stuff chicken breast, stuffed with broccoli and cheese. I got a salad to start and baked sweet potato. The salad came — I have NEVER had a fresher salad in my life served to me in a restaurant. My boyfriend got a soup, that we could tell was handmade(no powder package), a chicken over rice which was so well cooked and so fresh and the best cuts of the chicken, and bread pudding for dessert. I got strawberry ice cream — it’s not even the cheap bulk ice cream, it’s really good ice cream(and I’d know, I love ice cream) with real strawberry pieces in it. The wine we were served — that came with our meal, was also great. Free wine was good. Can you ever even say that? Before our meal started, we also got complimentary garlic bread… Again, handmade, not packaged garlic toast. Seriously, I feel like these guys were winning from moment one. My chicken breast was handmade, stuffed with real broccoli and real cheese. Again, nothing pre packaged. It was huge, I can eat a decent amount and I had to take it home. The sweet potato was also HUGE — like a meal in itself. I can’t say enough good things, this place is clean, quiet, the staff is attentive, effective and the food is delicious. I thought it might be rough being across from a really good Applebees, but I doubt we will ever go there again, Ellie’s only! Thanks Ellie’s, see you again asap!!!

Poor management time and time again. Bad Service seems to be outweighing the good food. Portions are getting smaller. Hopefully the staff gets better trained and paid more. Delivery services in taking orders is always a hassle. Going thru 2 people just to place an order ughhh.

I AMNEVEREVER, EVERSTEPPINGFOOTINSIDETHISRACISTESTABLISHMENTAGAIN!!! After years of loyal patronage at this diner, what my family experienced today was despicable. I was being treated to breakfast for my birthday, the wait time was kind of long but we agreed to wait… INTHECOLD!!! We had been waiting approximately 20 minutes when a group of 5 white patrons walk in to put their names on the same list I put ours on before they walked in. I ascertained by their comments while entering that they did not call ahead, it’s not even that type of establishment!!! It’s a diner!!! Where first come, first served is supposed to be the M. O. We were a party of 4… they were a party of 5, so his warped rationale for seating them first was that he only has two tables that can be «converted» to hold more than 4 patrons… and I wasn’t even next on the list!!! This racist owner of Ellie’s Diner came from behind the counter and engaged them like they were VIP’s immediately seating them ahead of the other 4 party patrons that were also waiting patiently to be seated. What this sorry excuse for a human being should have done, since the other«convertible» table was occupied, was tell this group of white patrons that the semicircular table which is primarily for 5+ parties is almost done, and if you don’t mind waiting. THAT’S how he should’ve handled this scenario, showing respect to his valued customers. But I digress, I WASN’T treated with any value, which is why I’ll never, ever again even consider being a customer.

If I could give this place ZERO stars — I would. Not because of the food but 100% because of the service. Food — Normal diner food. Service — once the entire party sat down it took us flagging down the waiter for him to take our order after a long wait(over 10 minutes). None of us got our complete orders and 2 out of our party of 3 got incorrect orders. My friend’s food came out very cold and lacking of several items requested. My order came out wrong(I ordered wheat toast no butter; I received white toast with butter) and missing several items(guacamole, tomatoes, etc.). When we called the waiter over and told him about the incorrect items instead of FIXING it, he argued with us and told us that we were wrong. When we then asked to speak to the manager, the manager, again instead of fixing it, argued with us! Then demanded that we pay for 100% our incorrect orders!!! I would not recommend ANYONE go to this place. Everyone in there is so rude and they do not care about customer service at all.

Ordered for delivery on 12÷31÷15 at 1:40pm.The food arrived at 1:55pm as if it was still right off the grill, but a part of my order was missing… Called the diner back where the missing order was delivered at 2:35pm…Food looks great, even with the corrected mistake I was satisfied with the service and food… This place makes decent burgers… 02÷08÷16 — called to place an order where a female picked up said«hello ellies… ehhhh hold on»…left me on hold for 5mins to be exact with the phone line open. I hear her talking then another phone rings and she takes someone elses order. I called back and a male answers with«what do you want?».I ignore that and begin placing the order to obviously a disgruntled employee that kept sucking his teeth every couple of seconds… As I’m placing the order, he’s keeps cutting me off, sucking his teeth in attempt to end the order. Never been so disgusted with the service at this place. I surely miss the old management when things were smoothly in order…

Usually I absolutely LOVE Ellie’s, but yesterday I got extremely ill from there. I had the eggs florentine my favorite as always and within hours I was ill. Might take me awhile to return because it is one of my favorite places to eat. I’m very surprised and disappointed with this experience because the food usually is great.

What can I say, this is a local spot and I love it for brunch. Especially after a night of drinkin’, Ellie’s is what you need for the morning after. You will feel better. Guaranteed. I usually like to get their omelets here. You also get complimentary juice and coffee with every order. I’ve also been here for dinner for their early bird specials. That I would say it’s just ok… there’s definitely better options in Parkchester for dinner, but it’s so close to me and service is great. No complaints about this place. Just go!

There is nothing special about Ellies except for the food and prices lol. The food is delicious its typical diner food and the prices are so low on breakfast specials. You can eat a nice big meal for under 10 bucks. I gave Ellies a 5 because their service is excellent they are very friendly and the service is always consistent on being attentive which alot of places lack. Ellies is the popular diner in Parkchester it sometimes can be a wait to get a table but it’s not that bad. Not only is Ellies breakfast delicious, their dinner platters are delicious as well. They have great specials on their dinner menu for under 15 bucks which includes a drink. If you’re looking for a good meal and not come heavy out of the pockets Ellies is a great choice.
