Turns out I had to go to the Bronx to find better Puerto Rican food than in Puerto Rico. For a neighborhood joint, these guys are doing it right.

Cuban sandwich journey. All I have to say is, if your looking for a CUBAN sandwich. As I anticipated finding here, because they have plenty of pork. *NOCUBANSANDWICHES… So we improvise had a PERNIL sandwich instead.

Puerto Rican comfort food. Lots of pork and plantains, like in the mofongo con pernil I ordered. For only $ 7, it was a big ball of mashed plantain and pork, very tasty, filling, and, because it’s plantain, good for the stomach. At the table next to me was a group of men who, I gathered from their conversation, had been recently released from prison. They threw the«n-word» around quite a lot, so if you go, be aware it’s not the most genteel group of diners you’ll see. Low prices, big portions, good flavors. I just wish they had a hotter hot sauce.

You must speak spanish or you’ll be skipped. I waited on line to order food for over 7 mins and was skipped over twice because I don’t speak any spanish. I definately will not be eating here ever.

Where do I begin?! This place make amazing Spanish food!!! I saw someone having a pastel(grated green banana with yummy pork filling) and I had to have one because it looked so good! I have to say my grandma made the best pastels and this one did not disappoint! I ordered a pork filled mofongo(green plantains mashed with garlic and the filling of your choice). It was a decent portion with a nice chunk of crispy pork skin on top. I topped with with the gravy they provide and their slamming garlic mojo(garlic sauce). They can bottle that stuff up and sell it. Pros: Amazing food. Quick friendly service. Decent prices. Good for families and small groups. Cons: Place was a little loud. Not the best for a first date.

Used to be good old fashioned Puerto Rican food years ago. Now it’s a wanna be Puerto Rican restaurant with bland food owned and operated by Dominicans.

I’ve been enjoying their food since I was a little girl, my family frequents here a lot and we all agree it’s the best Spanish cuisine that they have. Now as an adult I bring my own children here to eat. My children love the food here. Customer service is great. The best dish there or should I say my favorite dish is the bistec encebollado con tostones y mojito. I heard they have one on east Tremont by Westchester but I don’t think it’ll compare or hold a candle to this one.

This little Puerto Rican restaurant is great for a quick bite to eat. Came here for Sunday evening dinner and was immediately seated and attended to. A lot of the food is already prepared in large quantities, so it comes out fast. I tried the the Sopa de Mondongo(soup) and Mofongo con Pernil(plantains mashed with pork served in a cake form). Never had Puerto Rican food before, so I can’t speak to the authenticity of it, but the food was certainly good and the portions were generous. Definitely recommend trying the Mojito sauce(garlic sauce), it has a sharp bite to it and went well with the Mofongo.

Can I say the food is better than my mami’s? I know, I know blasphemy but mami ain’t never made no fried snapper or mofongo like this! Missed out on the pork which I hear is their speciality. Too bad I’ve given up rice and beans but I might just make an exception at this place. Thank the Culinary Gods there is still an authentic PRican spot left in NYC and of course it’s in the BX. I’ll have to visit everytime I hit up the BX. Actually might make the trip just to come here. Riquisimo.

The Best Spanish food on this side of the Planet! I’ve eaten here for years and yet still have not been disappointed. Camaro-fongo(jumbo shrimp, with mashed plantains, make sure u ask them for a little bit of juice from the Beef stew, pour it on top, Mmmmmm), the Pernil is awesome, with the yellow rice and gandules. The Mondongo is the best. Not salty and perfectly seasoned. And if you get there before 12pm on Friday you can HOPEFULLY be able to have some Shrimp soup. IF they haven’t ran out of the Shrimp soup by then! LoL. Pork chops look like Dinosaur size! And if you are a Garlic Lover. Make sure you ask for the Mojito. It’s not a Drink. It’s a strong Garlicky condiment you drizzle on your food! WOW! Great Flavor! But the Garlic will stay with you for 2 days! LOVEIT… To bad they close everyday by 9pm…

Believe the hype. The sesame drink A+++++++++ Roast Pork B+ Roast Chicken A+++++++++ Fried Plantains YOUMUSTGETTT Also had this thing that looked like a round fried donut but it was made of cassiova(?) or plantains and had ground beef inside. ITWASSOGOOD. The Bronx is so far but maybe one of these days I’ll venture back up there just for that donut thing and sesame drink.

What a disappointment. Everything was a mess. The oven roasted chicken was salty & dry. The flank steak with onions, was pale white, and bland. It was like chewing on a wet sock. The Patelitos were soggy, and the ground beef had the taste and consistency of «Golden Crust» style beef patties; not what I expected or wanted when ordering from a Dominican Style restaurant. The beans — god, how did they mess up the beans — was bland, not as bland as the steak socks, but bad enough to just throw away. The only food items that were«ok» were the fried sweet & green plantains. The whole delivery cost $ 36 + tip($ 40). Won’t ever order from here again, and I advise that everyone else stay away.

I had dinner here last night and it was so delicious. The chicken was flavorful, juicy and tender. The rice and beans were on point. The chicken soup was the best I’ve had in a long time. Especially feeling a bit under the weather the soup really hit the spot. The potatoe balls were fresh and delicious. Topped it all off with my favorite coconut drink. I was in heaven. Love this place !!!

It’s been a long time since I have had good rotisserie chicken. The chicken here is very good and the price is right. The chicken was tender and seasoned just right. The place was packed when I got there so call ahead!

Drove a long way to get my favorite item«alcapurrias de Guineo». 7am Sunday morning I was out the Door to get these precious morsels of deliciousness. They only make a few of this type of alcapurria. The others are made with yucca which I don’t care for. I also got morcilla, Pasteles and mondogo in case someone came over I would have food. No cooking for me on Sunday!!! The first thing I tasted was the alcapurria. What a disappointment! What happened to the incredible flavor. I could tell by the color that something was not right. They were too light in color. The Ones made with banana are darker in color. This was definitely NOTGUINEO. It was mixed with something that wasn’t tasting so good. Already things were not going my way. I tasted the morcilla and it was still good. Maybe somebody makes it for them outside the place because it was still as good as before. Later on in the day I served a friend one of the Pasteles and she said she could not finish it. She had only taken a few bites. I asked what’s wrong, let me taste it. Well after my first taste I could see why she didn’t want to finish it. It was almost without salt and without flavor. I tried putting salt on it AND hot sauce and still it was inedible. I threw the other one in the garbage. $ 2.50 shot to hell. For dinner I decided to have a cup of mondongo. Well it wasn’t the worst but it wasn’t the best. ANDTHEREWASVERYLITTLETRIPEINIT. I got served a bunch of starchy vegetables! What another disappointment. Another $ 4.50 shot. Fellow Unilocalerrs had given this place a few bad reviews but I refused to believe that my favorite place had gone down the tubes. Well ITISTRUE. THEFOODSUCKS. The only redeeming item was the morcilla. I would not order ANYTHINGELSE in that place. Perhaps the lechon because it still looked good, but who knows how it tastes! Can’t trust the place for good food anymore. I am so glad I didn’t invite someone out to dinner to my favorite place. I would have been so embarrassed. Unfortunately my favorite place is no longer. I am DONE. Could fellow Unilocalers tell me what their experience has been here and can you guys recommend a better place?
