We celebrated Father’s Day with a terrific brunch. We came back to give Charlie’s another chance, we are glad we did! Diane Lares was great, very attentive and eager to please.

I initially wanted the shrimp and grits but was told they ran out so instead I tried the chicken and waffles with scrambled eggs and gravy which was definitely worth it I enjoyed the ambiance and they had live music I would definitely go again and recommend this place to others… Just order the shrimp and grits early though

I can’t believe I didn’t review this place when I was living back in NYC. My husbands family lives in the Bronx and I was tired of the same old food and restaurants, and saw this place on Open Table. My husband and I took his family here and everyone LOVED the food. Everything was delicious, service was awesome, and drinks were top notch! I go there whenever I go back home now, and his brother even takes dates there all the time now(watch out ladies!).

Amazing food and service! The fried chicken is a must try, it comes with a little honey drizzled. It’s better than any place I’ve been to in Williamsburg or downtown! Try the house brussel sprouts and the house ribs. The vibe is chill and it feels like an oasis in the South Bronx. Can’t say enough about how good this place is.

Found this place by accident and have continued to go with some girlfriends after work. Very low key, awesome food and even better happy hour menu! Vegetarian friendly!

A great atmosphere that gives you a compete immersion into the local culture. The food is excellent, no matter what you order, and the happy hour specials are standard(although the $ 1 oysters are a nice little treat!).

Charlie’s is an amazing lowkey dinning experience — both for brunch and dinner. I’ve been here several times and have zero complaints about the food. The service isn’t necessarily consistent, but is definitely not bad. What I will say is that I haven’t had an amazing drink until I came here today(5⁄21) and Jackie was the bartender. JACKIEISTHESHIT!!! You need to make sure she is here before ordering drinks. Overall, Charlie’s is great!

This spot had its highs and some lows… but the highs outweighed the lows by far. We were a party of seven and decided to do a last minute brunch, I called and made a reservation 30 minutes in advance and we were seated immediately. The experience was as follows: 1. Ambiance– bright and airy, has a trendy feel to it. There’s a nice bar up front and the kitchen is in the middle of the restaurant. You can see the chefs preparing the food. There was a live band playing on the Sunday that we went. 2. Customer Service– Our waitress was a bit rude at the outset but we tried to overlook this, she had an attitude because we arrived one hour before brunch was set to end. Her attitude did improve over the course of the meal. Service was speedy and efficient. The manager was very friendly and came over to greet us. 3. Food– Excellent! We each had a different dish so we sampled almost everything on the brunch menu and everything was well seasoned and perfectly cooked expect for my friends steak which I found to be over cooked and tough. I personally had the pulled pork Benedict and I devoured it. The best dish in my opinion was the chicken Benny. The shrimp and grits were also good. The biscuits are large enough for two people to share and is accompanied by honey and apple butter. 4. Drinks– We all had the flowing(bottomless) drink option which is $ 15 per person. Standard mimosas, Bellini’s, screwdrivers(weak), bloody Mary’s. Overall, I can’t wait to go back!

I was a huge fan of Charlies for a while, especially their brunch, but my last two times here were a little disappointing. My husband and I decided to keep it local and have a dinner date at Charlies on 11⁄10 since we didn’t have work the following day. The place wasn’t full which was nice but the service was lacking. Our food took an unusually long time to come out, our server made us feel like we were inconveniencing her anytime we asked for anything and never brought my husband his beer, we actually watched it sit on the bar until the bartender finally dumped it. The owner really tried to accommodate us and brought us popcorn, comped my husbands beer and gave us a free dessert which was nice. My husband and I decided that maybe our server was having a bad day so we tried not to hold anything against her. We went to Brunch on 3⁄13 with my aunt and a couple of friends. We had the same server again, turns out 11⁄10 wasn’t a fluke, that’s just her personality because she was just as rude, the only good thing about her was that she kept the mimosas flowing. No one was impressed with their food, I ordered the NY Steak and it was mostly fat and very chewy. Then there’s the live band that you bump into as you walk through the door, I can see how some people like this but it’s super loud and impossible to carry on a conversation when they’re playing so I suggest requesting a table in the back room if one is available. I’m a big supporter of my borough and I really loved Charlies at first so I will more than likely continue to give them a chance but I really hope they’re able to find their way back to what made them amazing — great food and great staff.

IDK what’s going on w Sunday Brunch. It used to be one of my favs but now a big disappointment that I’m highly upset. The Jacksboro Benny: hard dried chicken served with hard stale waffle; lacked flavor and came to table lukewarm. Mimosas were so flat/stale and the bellinis were just as horrible. Why can’t I get a slice of pecan pie? So what if the kitchen is closing in 15 mins. Were they planning to bake a fresh one? Also, stop having your singers yell out for tips!

The Sunday Motown brunch is really cool. The menu changes, which I like because when I go back I’m always trying something new. It’s a great place, great atmosphere without going all the way to Manhattan. The food is pretty good as well. It’s definitely worth a visit!

fish tacos were an absolute joke! It was like half a fishstick in each of four teeny circles with coleslaw thrown on top. CORNY! Speaking of corny, the corn was delicious, but not worth going back to this place where everyone at the bar seemed to also work there. Not impressed.

Went there few weeks ago for a Sunday lunch. Not sure what had happened but my experience was very different from those times before. The food wasn’t great. And it was expensive for the amount you get. I was hungry when got there, and was starving when left! And the music was extremely loud. They had the band playing for a bit. And the. They turned on the music which was as loud as the live band. And it was kinda cold inside. No heat at all. Overall sad. Not going there again.

This place is a hidden gem. I forgot It was in the bruckner section of the Bronx. The food was really good I’m not into vegs but the Brussels sprouts was delicious. Drinks was pretty good too. Only reason I didn’t give five stars was I was looking forward to the shrimp and grits that was on the online menu. Oh well the fish tacos made up for it. kinda

Five stars for all great things! First we got a table immediately, our server was patient with us and communicative even when our food seem to be taking longer than usual. It was my first time here and I loved it. Our server was also very attentive and making sure the drinks kept flowing. We did the brunch cocktail flow which is bottomless brunch cocktails for $ 15 – best part you can mix it up. So i started off with a Bloody Mary, then another Bloody Mary, then a greyhound, then three mimosas to finish it up. For my dish, I had the chicken Benny with waffles and it was the best chicken and waffle combination I’ve had so far in NYC. The prices are not expensive, the food is delicious and the service is on point. Go check out this gem in the south Bronx you won’t regret it!

Can’t lie I feel super torn about supporting this place. Gentrification is creeping it’s way into the last untouched borough of NYC(Does Staten Island count?) and as a native New Yorker I am not a fan… but Charlie’s is so damn good. It is a great option to have close to the job. After hours it is nice to have a place to stop by for good eats/drinks. We ordered an appetizer of mixed meats and cheeses. This came with the most amazing cheesy bread I have ever had in my life. My co-workers and are still talking about it two weeks later. It was honestly the best thing I have eaten in a VERY long time. I would go back just for the cheesy bread, no joke. I ordered the beet salad with chicken which was DELICIOUS. I loved the different flavors and textures from the beet, chicken, goat cheese and tomato. I also tried my friends pasta dish which was amazing! One person I was with raved about the House Margarita.

Boogie Downnnnn!!! I’m all for The Bronx«Moving On Up» … And I completely love the fact that Mott Haven has gotten such an impressive addition. This portion of Da Bronx never looked this good! We’ve been to other nearby spots and wanted to venture to Charlie’s and be bold… Although Charlie’s does not take any reservations for 3, Charlie’s was extremely accommodating, yet, set aside a table. Charlie’s has a great cozy-romantic-sophisticated — and rustic feel that I totally grooved to. We started off with drinks and my daughter order her first drink since turning 21 yesterday(I’m still in shock). Drinks were tasty and potent. Appetizers were pleasant. Entrees were passable. I went for the Jambalaya minus the sausage, my daughter as well as my husband, went for the strip steak which they thought was fair. My low review is due to my Jambalaya being too pungent with spices, and my family’s steak being either too fatty or saucy. And in addition, service, I must admit, lacked. Though our server was friendly, service required more attention to detail.

After my last visit the manager reached out to me which was really refreshing. He invited us back for brunch and we decided to celebrate the nephew’s return to school. Since we received special attention I will focus on the food in this update. We ordered the Shrimp and Grits, French Toast, Burrito, Chicken and Waffles, and Bronx Bomber. The exceptional dishes were the Shrimp and Grits and French Toast. We don’t eat grits and mom wanted something light. It was an amazing blend of flavors and was perfectly complimented by the croissant bowl it came in. The french toast was like eating apple pie. Dang, I should have put ice cream on the leftovers! Grams loved her burrito, barely made it through half! My sister in law loved her chicken and waffles but questioned the egg, and lettuce being there. Way she saw it, it was a distraction from what she felt was perfect chicken. My steak was cooked perfectly. The eggs really transformed with the horseradish sauce. My Brussel spouts tasted like my homemade version but were a bit too broiled and almost burnt. Overall, we were very pleased, and would go back and get the grits. The live music was nice. Because it was bright we were able to better appreciate the décor. The small pieces really come together nicely. Only negative is that the food did take a while to come out. We were talking and pretty entertained but noted that time was passing…

Charlie’s bar was a wonderful experience. Both dining and drinking. I have been here 2 times and both times were amazing. The décor is low lit and intimate with a nice urban vibe. The staff is very friendly. The first time I came here I tried the fish tacos. And WOW they blew me away. I crave these fish tacos. They give u 4 crispy beer battered cod with a tangy homemade coleslaw and they r wrapped in a mini tortilla to bring it together. It is heaven on earth. I haven’t found a fish taco as good as this one at Charlie’s. Hats off to the chef. The drinks are strong and will leave u with a nice buzz. Happy hour u get 2−4−1 until 8 pm Live music on Thursday nights.
