I’ve stayed at this Holiday Inn several times over the past few years while on business in the Clarksburg area. For the most part my stays here have been just fine and I really only have one complaint: the WiFi. The simple fact is that the WiFi here is atrocious. This doesn’t help me when I’m from out of town, the data service from cell is weak and I’m trying to conduct business. There seems to be multiple hot spots to connect to, but not one of them holds a signal and when they finally do it’s super slow. I even tried to use one of the PCs in their business center and it might as well be dial up service from 1995. In fact I think AOL dial up when it first launched is faster than this internet speed. Besides the WiFi issue, the facility is just fine. The rooms are comfortable and have lots of nice amenities including a small fridge which is a plus for me since I normally stay for multiple days at a time. One time I had a room that had a huge divot in the floor, but that’s probably been the worst thing I’ve encountered. Otherwise, the rooms are clean, the beds are comfortable, the AC/heat works well and they keep it stocked with towels. The staff I’ve dealt with are usually friendly and I have no complaints about them. Short of the WiFi problem they have always helped me when I needed it. The free breakfast offering is nothing to write home about, but my expectations are not super high and at least it’s free(or built into the cost of the room). The pricing for stays here are reasonable and competitive for the area. If they could get the WiFi corrected I would probably stay here again and even up my review to 4 stars. *This business is gun carry friendly.

Nice quiet hotel, though I found the room to be dark, with low-grade carpeting and furnishings. I now stay at the nicer courtyard next door, even though they don’t give a free breakfast. I’m not a breakfast person anyway…

So… about a decade ago, I gave up on Holiday Inn altogether. Let’s just say bad glazing, a roof top swimming pool, and a cloven hoofed quadruped were involved. Well, all except for that last one. Anyway — was recently traveling for work and since the Unilocaliverse shows so(relatively) few chain hotels in the area and I’d been vehemently advised against making reservations at a non-chain establishment in the area by my hosts, went with this Holiday Inn, mostly for the Express, not the Suites, for a quick night or two, mostly spent in Clarksburg training others. On arrival, I was absolutely surprised by how clean and comfortable the place appeared. Staff was helpful(they’re located in a bit of a construction zone, which may explain the other review’s mention of ear plugs — though the construction was ongoing /longterm, and certainly my room had no manner of muffling noise — but we’ll get to that in a minute), professional, and efficient. My room(at the very far end of the corridor, well away from any common use spaces, elevators, ice machine or other services) looked just like the already uploaded pics. Very clean, especially the bathtub and surround — impressive at this price point. And I was already starting to draft a four or five star review, depending on how edible the complimentary hot breakfast was in the morning. Not-so-mini fridge, micro, desk space, stuffed chair. Seemed well appointed until I touched the top of the bed, which was covered in the saddest excuse for a duvet that I’ve ever seen — even while traveling in Eastern Europe before the Wall fell. And that’s where everything went down Suicide Hill on roller skates. The noise: starting at 10 pm, the room next to mine opened and slammed(not closed normally) their door one or more times every hour until gone 6 am. The. Same. Room. Hmmm, that’s not at all bizarre and/or…well, problematic on many levels.(Interpret as you wish.) But I’ll be mailing management a human trafficking screening tool. Just saying. Conveniently, starting at 5 am, my room sounded like I was trying to sleep in a Geo Metro at a stoplight surrounded by six other cars playing out-of synch versions of those bass-only tracks meant to nauseate — oops, I mean, impress — complete strangers who apparently only appreciate rhythms that are experienced like repeated sonic booms, each ‘boom’ being, apparently a single footstep of various fellow guests preparing for their days. Seriously. This place is apparently so shoddily built and insulated that single steps register measurably on the Richter Scale. Breakfast was average to yuck. Most anything that involved anything more than opening packages was vile. Stick with purchased-as-packaged items only, IMHO. Side note: if you’re looking for a place to stay locally, use a directory other than Unilocal to find a preferred location. While driving here, I saw most, if not every major mid-scale chain in operation at this exit on 79, most of which are not listed(as of Friday, September 9⁄26) in Unilocal. I look forward to fellow Unilocal reviews of the alternatives, should I ever need to travel here again for work, that’s for sure!

This is by far one of the cleanest holiday inns that I have stayed at. I thought it was brand new but it’s been here 3 years. Little things like earplugs in the room go extra distance. Right off the freeway, close to airport and Buffalo Wild Wings. Very clean gym and pool, rooms are spacious and very clean. If your in clarksburg or Bridgeport stay here.
