First let me preface this review by stating that I am the type of guy that will eat just about anything. My wife and I visited High Tide and ordered the scallops and the shrimp scampi. My wife’s scallops were bland, which we could handle. The scampi off the very limited menu was heinous. There were four pieces of slightly warmed shrimp on each corner of a square plate of linguine swimming in what tasted like lemonade. Actually, lemonade probably would have tasted better. My plate was filled with a half inch of lemon water. They also took care to soak my toasted bread in this solution. I think it was probably the worst restaurant food that I have ever eaten. To add insult to injury, the plate was $ 18. On the upside, the waiter was attentive and location on the river is very nice. The place had many customers so perhaps my order was an anomaly.

1st time visit, will definitely go back. 5 of us enjoyed a broad sampling from a fresh, nicely steamed lobster to tasty red pepper pasta, yummy Cajun haddock as well as nice spinach and crab dip and attractive house salads.(Salads only $ 2 add-on!) Thought the margherita pizza was a little oily, the space a little sparse but a really good meal, all in all and the chocolate caramel torte, special dessert, was great! Great service, great setting!

Had the combo with a lobster, chowder and steamers. $ 50. Absolutely delicious. Sat at the inside bar, nice crowd, super friendly and personable wait staff. Good local beers on tap. My companion half the stuffed haddock, a good sized piece of fish, stuffed and sauced… Also delicious. Overall a very pleasant experience!

Traveling with another couple and my wife and we just arrived in Maine for the 1st time ever and went to High Tide restaurant for some legendary Maine lobster. My friend’s wife and I ordered the Lazy Lobster,$ 26, which was billed as fresh Maine lobster where the kitchen removes it from shell. Both of us thought this dish was horrible. The lobster parts were tough and chewy, and clearly the parts came from different lobsters as the claws were different sizes. There was no evidence of tail meat. When we mentioned this to our waiter, who was very good, he said he thought the kitchen saves parts from lobsters and kept them in the refrigerator or freezer until this dish was ordered. Stay away from the Lazy Lobster! My friend’s shrimp Alfredo was very good as was my wife’s stuffed shrimp. The local craft beer was terrific and the view of the river was very nice. Too bad the lobster was so bad because the service and other dishes were very good.

Dear central Maine area, since you have great seafood and lobster places, I forgive you for having some ischemia in other cuisines(Mediterranean, Middle Eastern, Indian.). Came to this big place with wonderful friends. As we were entering, a huge coach parked and unloaded friendly tourists group from Nova Scotia. So many people were there, It was like entering an opera house. Autumn was escalating its cold this evening. We missed sitting outside where seats have gorgeous view of Penobscot River and Bangor downtown during the fantastic dusk time. Remote downtown lights were glittering on the river face and the sunset was at its best! The atmosphere was nicely rambunctious. The waitress was very friendly and smily. We ordered, shrimp cocktails, lobster roll(my serum Maine lobster levels are still low), ahi tuna and shrimp fettuccine. Shrimp cocktails were great! Those shrimps were huge like prawns. As you know, shrimps grow as males and later in life transform into females. So my guessing we ate either aging male shrimps or female ones. My friends liked their meals(3.5−4÷5). My lobster roll was great. Lobster meat was tender, fresh, nicely and reasonably buttered, quantity was huge! Even from inside, the views on the river and downtown Bangor were awesome! High Tide, keep the tide high!

Great service, attentive waiter, friendly folks, and delicious food. I had the crab salad roll and the amount of crab was more than enough for me. My husband got the fried clam roll and it was yummy as well. One thing I was a little weirded out about was that it was in the same building as a dental office. Upon entry, you can turn left to go to the dental office, or right to enter the restaurant. Would definitely come back when in the area!

There were 7 of us and unfortunately there wasn’t enough room for us to sit outside, but they quickly arranged for us to sit a table at the window. The view is incredible. We had several appetizers to share and they were great. Since 6 of us don’t live near ‘lobster’ country, a LOT of lobster was ordered along with other seafood dishes. Everyone loved their dishes and everyone was sampling others dishes too. The young lady that waited on us was spot on. She was very attentive and friendly. I can’t wait to get back to Bangor, ME and have dinner at High Tide.

Love the deck, but the food has been a disappointment every time. Three times I ordered the same salad– twice they said that they were out of the berries, the third they just said it was out of season.(Even though still on the menu) I don’t know why I keep going back other than I desperately want to love this place. It’s close to my house, on the waterfront and has a great deck– I guess I’ll just have a glass of wine

This place was good enough to go back to a second night, while we spent a few days between Bangor and Portland. The view of the river is nice, and the staff manager(Bert) was a real delight. Wine, drinks, and very good seafood f(including lobster) for two averaged less than $ 100(before our generous tips to the well-deserving staff) each of the two nights we were there.

Wonderful view of river. This restaurant is locally owned and the owner could not be nicer. Get the scallops you will not be disappointed. The bar is also a nice spot for a glass of wine and a salty snack.

We asked the guy at the hotel check in desk where we could find a good local seafood place. He told us High Tide. It was a quick and easy 10 minute ride from our hotel and it wasn’t just good, it was great! My daughter and I sat on the outside deck overlooking the Penobscot River for dinner. Probably the only problem with our visit since the sun was still high, it was right in my eyes. Service was spectacular. Our server made sure she answered all our questions about the menu and offered some suggestions. For starters, we tried the lobster bisque and scallops wrapped in bacon. 4 huge scallops served soaking in delicious maple syrup. Large chunks of lobster in the creamy bisque. For our entrees we both chose the lobster pie. Neither of us had ever had such a item and nor did the server. I appreciated her honesty in telling us she had never tried it but that it was one of the most ordered dishes. It did not disappoint. Lobster meat baked in a seafood Newburgh sauce topped with seafood stuffing which had the perfect mix of crunchiness and softness. Served with a side of mashed potatoes which were also cooked to perfection. I highly recommend and if I’m ever in the area again, I will be back.

I had the worst, grittiest clams I have ever had in my LIFE recently. Is that why there is a Dentist upstairs? My special lunch was terrible. Although the restaurant is called the High Tide, I would not recommend the shellfish. Service was slow.

Nice fresh seafood choices and not a lot of fried items, pleasant décor with beautiful views along the Penobscot river. Outside deck sesting. Haddock chowder tasty but mostly potatoes. Mussels in garlic tomato broth good. 3 people for lite lunch and beverages $ 50. Next night lobster roll with too much mayo on a very heavily buttered roll with a nice green salad $ 22 before beverage. Tasty but not worth the price

An okay restaurant with a relaxing view. This place has changed hands quite a few times over the past few years-mainly due to the fact the view is not enough-you must have GOOD food to go with it! Just because you are on the water doesn’t mean you can charge high prices and not deliver on a better meal. My hubby and I started with the French onion soup-it was very good, well flavored, but could’ve used more cheese on top. but better then most we’ve had. I had the fettuccine Alfredo with grilled shrimp. The shrimp were of good size and tasted more on the fresh side but not seasoned at all. The fettuccine was actually linguine which is suppose is an acceptable substitute unless you are in the mood for some substantial pasta as I was that day. The sauce had little flavor except for a very mild hint of sage, but really in the dry side with nothing memorable. Hubby had the chicken tenders which he said on a scale of 1 – 10 were about a 6. Service was a little slow, but our waiter Randy was really pleasant and friendly. Ok, but not dying to go back-not sure if we will or not.

Lunch menu prices are quite reasonable, and the view of Bangor across the river is lovely. The burger was huge, and the serving of mussels was generous. We had a good experience.

Food and service were not good. Service was slow and for the 4th week of being open the servers still appeared confused. My daughter had the dish and chips. She was not impressed The fish was not entirely cooked. Husband had the seared tuna he was also not impressed. Had little flavor and the sides he ordered were cold when they came out. I don’t eat seafood and they have only 2 or three things on the menu for people like me. The chicken piccata was a terrible a pasty floury mess, cold with little flavor. To bad we had high hopes for such a perfect location on the waterfront!

The view is breath taking. Food and service not so much. The service was slow for a place that isnt to busy, tables arent cleaned right away for a slow place. To bad.
