After waiting for 10 minutes to be seated and nobody in sight to help us, I went looking for someone. The lady I found told us that there was another couple ahead of us in an irritated tone of voice. I told her we had reservations and that my handicapped husband really needed to sit down. But she didn’t seem to care. So we left. It was not the wait that offended us, but the woman’s attitude. Too bad, because we had heard a lot of good things about the restaurant and were really been looking forward to going there. It was my husband’s birthday dinner.

A friend recommended this place as one of the best around to get a great meal. He was absolutely right and I wasn’t disappointed! The food is some of the best I’ve had. Not just the best in town, some of the best I’ve ever had. I was frankly shocked at how good it was. I’ve been used to the burger/pizza/tex-mex options Brenham seems to be limited to and this was a refreshing change. The service was friendly and prompt and I couldn’t think of anything I found lacking. The only thing I can’t comment on is dessert as we had more than enough to eat in our meal and didn’t have room for anything else. I had the spicy pork noodle bowl, my friend had the kobe steak and we split an egg roll appetizer. It was simply great food in a very friendly, welcoming atmosphere.

This place was great! We pass through Brenham often and this is by far the best restaurant we’ve been too in the area. Great friendly service, excellent food. I would highly recommend.

We were on our way to Louisiana and decided to stop here for dinner since we saw all the great reviews. The place is a historic-looking house which is appealing and I’m sure has a history. We were seated fairly quickly, but after that the service switched to slow motion. The place wasn’t busy so we couldn’t understand why it was taking so long to take our drink order. A young boy checked up on the table next to us and a young girl did the same for the other table next to us. Both did this about three times before a lady finally came about 20 minutes later and took our drink order and the food order at the same time. We’re not used to that method, but whatever. To be honest, the food is extremely overpriced. The food is good, don’t get me wrong, but 3 tiny dumplings for $ 8? I’m giving them 3 stars because the food was good, but they really need to improve on the efficiency and training the waitstaff.

We arrived today at 1:38 pm and was greeted by an unfriendly hostess who reminded us that it was 1:45 pm and they closed at 2:00 pm. I felt like we were agitated them by having a party of 7 arrive so close to closing. Since there are a number of option nearby we decided to leave. When the owner came out to ask why we were leaving and said they were setting up a table for us, I told her that we didn’t feel like we were welcomed. She has a «Dance Mom» mentality and said well the hostess is my daughter and she’s not that way. Basically called me a liar and said she knew her daughter and that she never treats customers that way. I now understand where the hostess gets her customer service skills from. We ended up going to a place about a mile away called«It Mist Be Heavenly» where the staff was friendly and the food was great.

Was such a nice experience. Wonderful lady who served us who I assume was the owner. The chicken Parmesan bites were perfectly cooked and had an amazing sauce to dip them in. I had the roast beef panini with wasabi mayonnaise and it was amazing. The death by chocolate was so delicious. And took cookies to go!

Phenomenal! I highly recommend the marinated sirloin bowl. The place is cute, quiet with a lot of character. I will return my next trip through.

This place is phenomenal! We came based off Unilocal reviews and was not disappointed. The hubs had the Asian marinated angus bowl that was ADDICTING. I had the cranberry walnut chicken salad and was pleasantly surprised. It wasn’t what I expected, but very tasty.(Chicken salad on top of salad greens). For desert the pecan lavender cookies were outstanding… Not too sweet, tender, but with this amazing crunchiness that I can’t forget. Kay, the proprietor, wouldn’t tell me what the crunch was even thought I asked twice. The Hubbs had the death by chocolate for Deseret that was chocolate brownie with chocolate sauce and bluebell homemade vanilla ice cream. The brownie was fudgy and cakey at the same time. Definitely coming back here!

Really delicious food off the beaten path. Everything was fresh and homemade. Too bad we didn’t have room for dessert! I recommend the egg rolls and pork fried rice.

First off, let me say that giving this place 3 stars is generous. The only reason I do that is because I feel bad for an obviously small business owner trying to make it. My husband and I stopped here on our way back to Houston from Austin. I saw that it had great reviews so we thought we’d try it out. The place is cute and well decorated, but right away we noticed they were understaffed. No one knew we came in for some time. Once seated we realized this was definitely a place where there were only locals from Brenham dining. And not too many of them. We asked for water and then we were forgotten for awhile. Then the middle aged woman(possible owner?) came again and asked us for our order. Once we got our salads we reminded them for our waters and this was probably 10 minutes after sitting down. I asked about the dressing and asked if there was blue cheese in it(I am allergic). The lady said«I don’t make it». I was looking for a response of «I’ll go make sure for you and ask». But I didn’t get that. The food was OK. I was really expecting a lot more from the reviews and for the price. My chicken dinner tasted too sweet, like it was made with the same batter they use for funnel cakes. Not my thing. The special sauce was good and the potato cucumber salad was nice. My husband thought the Mexican style dish was eh. We noticed that the locals were getting way better service than us. We did not once get a refill on our water. And the locals were all getting checked on while we were ignored. It took forever to get our check and a box and that was with reminders. Finally when this whole fiasco was coming to a close, the woman apologized and said how everyone came at once.(There were probably only 5 small tables taken max). Well I’m sorry, but you should hire someone else. We all deserve good service. It’s not our fault that you spent so much time checking up on all the locals but treating us poorly. Also did I mention it was extremely overpriced? Well it was. Not worth it and we won’t ever stop there again. There’s a reason why some small restaurants work and some don’t. You can’t just treat the locals well and not pay attention to the people that come through. Also we are in our 20s. Perhaps they only give good service to the older crowd. Oh well.

Kay’s Cuisine For the Soul is nothing but EXCEPTIONAL! If you are passing through Brenham this establishment needs to be part of your pit stop. I have gone into the restaurant during both the lunch time and dinner hours and have loved every item I have tried. I have tried almost every local restaurant and Kay’s is always on the top of my list. Trust me I have no problem having Kay’s for both lunch and dinner in the same day. Her food is delicious, fresh and homemade! PLEASE save room for dessert. Her desserts are AMAZING… and ADDICTING. If she has run out of her cookies I apologize in advance because I tend to buy all of them to take home.

If you’re looking for something different than pizza, southern cooking, bar-b-que, etc. that you tend to find in Brenham than look no more than Kay’s. It’s in a restored historic home with several small dining rooms and a lite jazz CD playing(the artist was a local). Kay herself greeted and sat us. We started with an order of Pork dumplings with dipping sauce that was very tasty. My gf had the Korean inspired Beef Bowl, and I had the Planko encrusted shrimp, which came with cumcumber potatoe salad and a Japanese flavored dressing. Both entrees came with salad. With Ice Teas all around the total was $ 50. I’m sure more than the average place in Brenham for two but for a wonderful tasty meal in a nice atmosphere it was well worth it. Also, Kay is a great source of knowledge of not only cooking but the Brenham area.

Very fresh & tasty food. Have a craving for homemade egg rolls and dumplings, get ready for some of the best you’ve ever had! Pork fried rice is super yummy and goood for you! They have a fantastic menu including salads, sandwiches and a few fun surprises! Leave room for cappuccino and dessert, lets see you won’t go wrong with any treat she has, but the brownies & cheesecake are perfectly delicious. Go for lunch or dinner soon!

We transplanted from Houston to Brenham a few years ago, and we finally made our first visit to Kay’s Cuisine for the Soul, which opened about six months ago. We’re now upset that we waited so long, because the food, atmosphere, and service are exquisite. We love living out here in Brenham, but one of the parts of ‘city life’ that we miss is the great selection of restaurants in Houston. The fine dining choices in Brenham are limited(to say the least) and Kay’s not only offers an upscale experience, it offers a *real* upscale experience, not one that’s just ‘good enough’ for country folk. For example, for dinner I had a fantastic tempura shrimp dinner, which included a side of asian potato salad(which includes shreds of cucumber and carrot in a delicious dressing), garnished with shredded onions and carrots that were also tempura-fried. It was delicious. My wife had the spicy rice bowl with fresh and pickled veggies, seared sirloin, covered with a fried egg. We loved Kay’s so much that we came back a few days later for a Mother’s Day dinner. I had the parmesan chicken bites and my wife had a Yucatan-inspired dish of tomatadas, rice, and shredded chicken tamales, cooked in a banana leaf. Again, it was all fantastic. So if you’re visiting Brenham from the big city, or local to Brenham and looking for something interesting, put Kay’s Cuisine for the Soul on your list.
