This stuff is so addictive! I usually take it to go. Love the fried chicken salad. There’s something so wonderful about the spicy taste. Biscuits are good too.

Real good fried chicken, and the prices aren’t crazy. The spicy option is pretty damn spicy, so beware. My only complaint is that the«mac and cheese» tastes more like hot pasta salad, not sure there’s much cheese in it at all. Maybe that’s a southern way of doing it? That’s the only reason it’s not getting five stars.

I love this place! Especially in the summer. I got their fried chicken with mashed potatoes and iced tea.

It’s a bit bizarre to find fried chicken this good in Bozeman, MT. Trust me, it exists. I ate here several times last year — during a time I was«trying» to be good with my diet. ;) I had several crispy chicken salads that were pretty darn good! Parking is an issue, lines and wait time are an issue. If you’re willing to overlook both of those, it’s totally worth the visit!

Love this place! The food is usually fantastic, although I once had chicken that was a little dry. The potatoes, okra, biscuits, and sweet tea though has always been fantastic. The place is on the small side but is rather popular so if you go at dinner time, you might have to wait a bit for your food and a table to open up. They do have outside seating which is perfect in the warmer months. You do have the option to call for pick up, which is a great option to cut down on the wait if you want to take it home. I love to bring out of towners here.

Great place for lunch. Authentic fried chicken and chicken sandwiches. My only complaint is that it sometimes takes longer than you might like to get your food, so be advised if you’re tight on time.

Don’t go to one of the big chains. This is the best chicken. Roost salad and chicken sandwich are great. Plus, hot sauce is amazing.

Really good fried chicken here. The chicken and waffles special is wonderful — the waffles are crispy and moist, topped with pecan butter. The chicken is crisp and tasty. It’s not Roscoe’s or anything, but it’s the best you’ll find in Montana, that’s for sure. The fried chicken is pretty good too. Authentic southern style fare. The biscuits are delicious, and the fried okra is nothing to sniff at.

Well, after 7 times in a row over the past several months of The Roost either messing up our order or giving us sub par food, we are done! Waited over 30 minutes last night to be served burnt chicken, it tasted so bad that we basically paid close to $ 40 for inedible food! Fries were cold. Something needs to change here, it seems that nobody is taking pride in this place! Gross and a waste of money for us, yet again!

I am from the South. This is not Southern comfort. Ordered the chicken salad expecting, well chicken salad and got chicken chunks! LARGE chunks! NOT chicken salad. Sweet tea was NOT sweet. I had been told that since we were from the South we would love this place. What a disappointment. Average at best. May try it one more time but in no hurry.

The Roost(as it is called locally) makes some tasty fried chicken! We ordered the whole chicken dinner with two large sides. We initially asked for all fried chicken, but then switched to half fried and half rotisserie once we discovered that that option was available. Our sides consisted of fried okra and mac-n-cheese. The chicken was cooked perfectly, with a crunchy skin and the most delicate and wonderfully-moist meat. That was definitely the best part of the meal. The okra was good, but the cornmeal coating could have been a little bit more flavorful. This might have been a lack of spices in the mix. The mac-n-cheese was pretty good, too, but not exceptional. We also ordered a bag of boiled peanuts for fun. These were pretty good, but we ended up not eating many being so stuffed with the chicken and the sides. We also had a biscuit per the tradition. A couple of beefs: the gal who took our order was pretty useless. She had no suggestions as to what to try, and didn’t even offer the half and half option, even though she watched us muse about which would be better and knew we were there for the first time. She seemed to just want to move us along with her vacuous look and glazed eyes. The second complsint pertains to the large number of yellowjackets on the patio. These were a huge problem as we tried to enjoy our chicken. There are things that the ownership can do about those aggressive wasps. No excuses. So the Roost gets 3 stars. Four for the chicken and two for the atmosphere. If I ever come back, I will definitely dine inside or get my food to go!

It’s ok… I’d never return hence the 3 stars. Everything was okay. The fried chicken, while moist, really has no seasoning in the crust. The chicken sandwich is over powered by the sauce. The cole slaw and collard greens side were decent. Nothing to swoon over. The biscuits were my favorite part. It took 25 minutes after ordering for our food to arrive at our table. We were first customers at 11 am.

It’s good but not great. I’m from the South and I was looking forward to the Southern Comfort food. The batter was little greasy and over cooked, but the chicken was juicy. The biscuits were ok, I would have to watch them being made to believe that they weren’t pre-made frozen. The Mac-n-cheese was the best I have ever had and the cole slaw was good. The place was packed so the tea was out every time I went for a refill. It was good tea, so I understand. One thing that did bother me is someone brought their dog to the outside eating area.

I love the chicken here! Speaking from a foodie point of view, it is hard to find great fried chicken in the North!(Southern fried!) They know what to do and how to do it, Roost Rocks! There is another review from someone talking up a place in Missoula on here, and talks like a friend of the owner, employee, or at least someone with an agenda. I’ve had both and both are great, my unbiased opinion is Roost is the by a long way the winner! Since I don’t live in this area, and travel the world over, I know great food! Thanks to the great & friendly customer service at Roost! PS The Nashville hit chicken is a must try! Even if your a baby to hot food, just a little taste!

This place is fabulous. Chicken is perfect and the macaroni and biscuits are insane. Don’t recommend the mashed potatoes, though. It was more of a mashed potato-soup.

All I have to say is that you people in Bozeman that have been talking about The Roost like this chicken is equivalent to the Second Coming of Jesus, need to get your heads checked. I’m almost certain you’ve gone taste blind. After reading everyone’s reviews, I have come to the conclusion that none of these people have ever had excellent chicken and have never ate at Double Front Chicken in Missoula, Montana. The chicken at The Roost was equivalent to some dried-up, over-cooked deli chicken you can get out of a grocery store. The service was sub-par at best, the cashier had the personality of a bedside sock, and the fries were garbage. I usually visit a place twice before writing a review, but since most of the reviews for The Roost boast this place to be something special, I can’t help myself. Not only will I write a review but I’ll give you all a tip to go with it. Please drive 200 miles in a Northwest direction until you arrive at a town called Missoula,(that’s the name of the town that has the sports teams that continually kicks the shit out of your teams remember) and visit Double Front for the best chicken experience you are likely to encounter within a 500 mile radius.

This was a great first place to visit when we were on vacation in the area. We headed here due to some awesome Unilocal reviews from others and the easy drive from our hotel to here! The parking is around back and the construction out front made it kinda hard to navigate — but this is a temporary thing, so it’s not worth knocking a star for it. The lobby is really cute and has high top counter seats and low tables. There is also a space outside with seating if you wanted that option! We had the chicken bucket with two sides, which was more than enough for the two of us. We opted out on dessert cause we were too full, but they had some ice cream options. Overall: A A fun local place that is a must-try for anyone!

Fried chicken… in MONTANA? As a Southerner myself, I thought the chicken was delicious. Perfectly seasoned and crispy. You will never get me to yell«Roll Tide» though– GODAWGS! The half chicken portion was huge– easily enough for two people. The mac-n-cheese was OK. Biscuits were flaky, dense, and tasty. The fried okra was spot on. Also tried the Roost Salad, which was also a good portion for sharing or a large entrée. Come hungry.
