I came in for lunch and ordered a salad. Quick and friendly service and had my salad 5 minutes. Delicious! I’ll definitely be back.

Do not go here if you are in a hurry. Expect to wait an hour at least. The service was alright but the breakfast food was less than poor. After waiting an hour for food and watching two other tables leave because the hour+ wait, we finally got our food. It was the typical diner food thrown on a plate. The hash browns were still cold, looked like they were just taken out of the fridge and thrown on my plate. The sausage gravy was cold, and the biscuit undercooked. If you are looking for good food, this is not the place.

As local cafes go, the Old Country Café is what you would expect. Due to the instability of past diners in the area, I was a bit skeptical when I first visited this establishment when I asked a manager-type if they were on Unilocal and they replied, «What’s Unilocal?» At that point I decided they wouldn’t last longer than a few months. Boy was I wrong. Each time I’ve dined here, the food has been great. Some of their original dishes(like their hash brown casserole) are items that well bring you back over and over again. During a recent visit, I tried one of their $ 7 burgers and I was not disappointed. The meat was not«smashed» or overcooked, the toppings were plentiful but easily tackled by my admittedly big mouth, and the $ 1 extra fries were enough to feed two people. This isn’t a place to go for exquisite culinary mastery, but that is part of their charm. The staff is kind and attentive and the cook makes occasional, non-invasive forays into the dining area to ensure all diners are satisfied with the quality of their food. So why not give them 5 stars? First let me state that no one is going to be disappointed with the food or service they receive for the price. All that said, there have been occasional side items I have received that I wasn’t totally convinced were made from fresh. Having worked a job in this environment, and knowing the challenges faced by a «small town diner», this is an extremely common thing to find, especially given the limited workforce and limited volume some of these places face. Still, there are some clever ways to «chef up» these premade items in such a way to hide their sinful background. With a couple very, very minor tweaks, this place could move from an impressive 4 star rating to a superior 5 star rating. Old Country Café is poised to be a staple in the Bowling Green for years to come. Potential diners would be wise to give them a visit and enjoy old fashioned, hometown cooking.

Tender, beautifully seasoned country fried steak with peppery sausage gravy and homemade mashed potatoes and green beans… wonderful.

The Old Country Café replaced that was once the Old Courthouse Café. Situated in the town of Bowling Green, they offer breakfast, lunch, and dinner options, as well as donuts from the local donut shop, Paul’s Bakery. The hubs and I were in the area, and since we were pretty much famished, we decided to check out the Old Country Café for some breakfast. I had The Bert, which is also lovingly referred to by the locals as ‘The Trash Can’ — this is an omelet that has bell peppers, sausages, bacon, slices of ham, tomato, potatoes, and cheese; it comes with a choice of bread, and I opted for a biscuit — the omelet itself was pretty tasty, as I also had it with ketchup and hot sauce — the omelet was fluffy, and the fillings of the meats and the cheeses were pretty equal in terms of amount. I absolutely loved the biscuit, as it was homemade, fluffy, moist, and buttered up with a slight crispy exterior — YUM! I also tried their home fries(very crispy!!! It wasn’t really seasoned, but I did enjoy its crispiness), and their hash brown casserole(this was a little disappointing, as it was more on the bland side, and the cheese within was not melted and more coagulated — it kind of seemed like it contained cottage cheese). The hubs had corn beef hash with scrambled eggs and an English muffin.- the corn beef hash was okay, but the scrambled eggs were nice and fluffy. Service was friendly and attentive! I’d love to come back and try out their biscuit sandwiches: D +yummy homemade biscuits!!! :D +The Bert omelet +friendly service: D

This is simple food done well, and when you get that comfort food itch I recommend you take a detour to Bowling Green and try the food out. I personally recommend the southwest burger, cooked perfectly and just enough spice.

My husband and I stopped by a couple weeks ago on our way through town, and we were pleasantly surprised. The food was delicious(good down-home meals), the place was very clean, it was quaint, and the service was excellent! This is a new restaurant that needs patrons to survive! It wasn’t on Unilocal,so I suggested to the owner to put it on Unilocal if they want to draw people in.
