Tasty fare that includes donburi(rice bowls) and onigiri(triangle-shaped rice«balls» with various types of fillings) at prices that definitely keep the wallet happy and the stomach full. Especially for a Japanese restaurant that focuses on organic and local ingredients, this was a great find on Boulder’s famous Pearl St. Mall. I wandered here on a weekday evening outing with close friends and became enticed with the in-store meal specials. Healthy eating has been an important goal of mine in the past year and the items on the menu were spot on for what I was looking for in a healthy restaurant. The soboro donburi(beef rice bowl) was a good portion of food with plenty of rice, beef, veggies, and a curry sauce that ties the flavors together nicely. I especially loved the avocado that was included with the veggies. Everything tasted fresh and despite the larger portion of food, was still light. Overall, a great place for tea beverages and a quick lunch if you are in the Boulder area!

I’m with the other homesick New Yorker on this one. Very East Village. So good. Sooo good. Very authentic, fresh. They obviously know what to do with raw ingredients and how to put them together. Also, the homestyle mochi is perfect — like a grown up version of regular mochi. Not too sweet, just right. Writing this is giving me a craving so I might go today. Like, right now actually. Bye.

I live in Denver, but do quite a bit of hiking in and around Boulder. I usually end up eating at Green Rush ~once a week. My usual: DonBuri with tofu(with lots of siracha!!)(usually enough left for a 2nd meal) Matcha mocha with hemp milk Green tea cookies I have been to China and have a knack for sniffing out authentic Asian cuisine. This place is legit

I came across this place by accident and went in because I saw some pictures on Unilocal of the mocha latte that has the character«茶» written on it which means tea. It came with a very big bowl even though I ordered a medium size, and it turned out that not everyone in that store is able to write the character, that day it was a young American guy making the drinks and he said it’s difficult to write that but I was just being ridiculous forcing him to try lol, besides that, the mocha latte do taste pretty good though!

Everything I’ve had at Green Rush has been delicious. The salmon onigiri is super flavorful and just the right size for a snack or light lunch. The beef curry bowl is delicious and filling. Today, I tried a matcha frappé… so refreshing! The interior could use a little«jazzing up,» but all in all, this is a great healthy and yummy spot!

This cute, friendly little establishment would be right at home in NYC’s East Village. I only had the chance to try the onigiri, but walked away very happy with both my food and the kind people behind the counter. The onigiri(rice«balls» — actually triangles most of the time) here were gigantic — about twice the size as what I’m accustomed to seeing for sale and three times the size as my homemade ones. While gargantuan proportions are not usually a positive in my book(size can compromise structural integrity), these omusubi were made from well-prepared, high quality brown rice and filled with just the right amount of filling(in my case fish). They held together nicely. OK, so the nori wasn’t as crispy as it would be if it’d come separately from the rice and you’d assembled the onigiri, yourself, the way convenience stores in Japan sell them — but mine were perfectly fine for having come pre-assembled. The café gets even more brownie points for using biodegradable takeout containers. I don’t know how Green Rush Café compares to other similar restaurants in Boulder, but for this hungry tourist who felt homesick for NYC’s more varied food offerings, GRC hit the spot perfectly. Thanks, Unilocal, for leading me to a great meal. Thanks, GRC, for feeding it to me!

Hands down the yummiest bowl style meal I have eaten since traveling in Asia! I ordered: Teri chicken don bowl Matcha latte Green tea cookies The chicken in the bowl was so, so flavorful. I could have eaten that all by itself and been completely happy! Avocado, tomato, red rice and my all time favorite pickled item… a pickled hard boiled egg accompanied the protein. OOOOOMMMMMGGGGGG… it was a flavor and texture explosion!!! My friend ordered the same thing. We left not a single grain of rice. I only added a bit of sriracha for more spice. The matcha latte I had made with almond milk(lactose intolerance). Great green tea flavor and not overly sweet. It had more of a lassie consistency than latte. On the way out we decided to pick up a few green tea cookies. They were $ 2 for a dollar. So of course ordered 4. We gobbled them on our walk to the car. I was very happy with this quick lunch stop. Several people came in while we ate to pick up take-out. Man, I wish I lived in Boulder so I could do that for lunch. But then again… there are about 100 other reasons why I want to live in Boulder. Thank, Green Rush, for giving me 101.

They don’t have a huge menu but what they do they do extremely well. This is a great spot to pop into for an authentic and quick lunch experience. Try the matcha for sure and of course the staple onigiri which are delicious and filling.

Stopped in at lunch time because I’d read good things. I had a «sea bacon» onigiri in which the salmon skin filling was chewy, the nori soggy and the rice slightly mushy(not sticking together properly as it should but rather falling apart a bit) and underseasoned(usually onigiri are made by hand after dipping your hands in salted water or if using a mold, salting the rice directly; there was little salt in this). Also had the yaki onigiri, which were a disaster. Not sure where the«yaki» part came in as they were completely soggy from the miso mayo on top with absolutely no toasted areas to be found; yaki onigiri should have crispy areas where they’ve been fried. Onigiri should also be able to be eaten by hand — both of the onigiri I had were so un-cohesive that I needed a fork to eat them. I did not try any of the teas. The service was good, and I appreciate what they are trying to do, but unfortunately when your food menu consists primarily of onigiri, it’s helpful if you can make them properly.

Like another reviewer, I’m assuming that the 5* ratings are fraudulent. Especially the one reviewer whose only other review was a bad review of sushi zanmani around the corner – I’ve only had great experiences here. I found Green Rush Café super disappointing. I was looking forward to great onigiri. I got a lot of rice, soggy nori and stale fillings. The breakfast bowl I had was fine. I asked for bacon but they were out, so I got the grilled vegetables – it seemed like these were the offcuts from other meals. End pieces of onions, carrots, etc. There was avocado & a marinated egg which was nice, but this was the only highlight of the meal. At the end of the day, I feel like I paid $ 20 for a lot of rice. And the rice wasn’t even that great. Unfortunate as I had high hopes this would be a great addition to the Japanese choices in Boulder.

Delicious healthy food. Clean place. Friendly people. I ordered the chicken bowl which came with greens, sticky rice, avocado, hard boiled egg and very tasty chicken. This is the kind of food I could eat every day for the rest of my life.

I love this place so so much! Everything is delicious, but my favorite isn’t on the menu. The owner makes me a rice porridge with salmon that is out of this world. The nicest staff, amazing food, delicious tea selection. Green Rush also has a happy hour and beer on tap!!! How fantastic is that!?!

Love their matcha latte with hemp milk! I wish there’s a place like this in Denver. When I get matcha latte in Denver it’s usually a tea bag in milk(yuck!)

I’m Japanese and I love this place! Their tea, rice, miso soup, sweets and pickles remind me of home. They also put a lot of thought into all their ingredients. They only use organic and they import a lot of stuff from Japan even the Macha cups and the other dishes. My favorite is Japanese pickles and Sencha:) You should visit this Café and you will love it for sure! Daisukiーーー(”)

This is my new favorite restaurant in town! The sign that said«food is medicine» brought me in, and the hemp matcha latte and ume made me a regular. The food is amazing, it is affordable, healthy and leaves you feeling refreshed and energized. The owner is really knowledgeable and cares a lot about what he’s serving. I’ve recommend this place to all my friends(and coworkers, and random people I’ve had conversations about food with. haha). Definitely check it out!

Been waiting for a place like this. Forget sushi — sometimes an «onigiri»(rice ball) hits the spot. Commonly made at home and offered in convenience stores in Japan, there’s not enough options for this stateside despite the popularity of Japanese food. I thought I’d know what to expect but pleasantly surprised by the variety on the menu and the quality of the rice — a detail that maybe only the Japanese would notice but we all benefit! Will be fun to see where they with this concept as they grown and mature. I’ll try the tea next time!

Amazing! I’d been waiting for this place to open for a while and I was not disappointed. Their onigiri is delicious and each one is so different. My personal favorites so far are the curry soboro and the shiitake onigiri. Their matcha is top notch. I definitely plan to make this one of my go to places off Pearl street mall. I wanted to try the wasabi katsuo but they were out today. Can’t wait until my next visit.
