Great Hike in Big Basin Redwoods State Park. 5 miles out and back through valley/mixed trails, redwoods, waterfalls, streams, and rock outcroppings. It is moderate to strenuous with about 1,200 feet of elevation change with a few«rock scrambles». Can be crowded in the spring and summer at the beginning of the trail. The trail narrows at times and goes«through» fallen trees. Some amazing views of untouched, thick redwood growth and wildlife at the higher elevations. Can get pretty hot and dry in the summer. I recommend bringing a good pack with plenty of water, food, and a camera. Gloves are not necessary, but can help on the«scrambles». Take your time and soak everything in. Towards the top it is quite and serene with an amazing abundance of green… makes me feel like I’m in the sierras. This is a must for hikers.
