Great pub in a popular spot of Boston. Their clam chowder was decent but I would only recommend this place as a place to hang out and socialize. Their outside patio overlooks a busy street so it’s great for people watching.

As an Irish pub in downtown Boston, the Times isn’t exactly ripping into unknown restaurant territory. And it’s got what you’d expect – pub food, some microbrews, a long bar. So what’s so good about it? First they shuffle up the menu a bit and have things like salad nicois. It’s not the wilted iceberg lettuce and frozen tomatoes that a typical irish pub salad is, but fresh mixed greens with interesting stuff on it. Second the people who work there are really top notch. I don’t mean«nice» in the sense of a chirpy waitress being as hyper friendly as possible. I mean even when they’re jammed they are efficient and make it look easy. Third, that patio is the greatest thing in the summer. A warm summer evening, many cold beers, and a good friend are a pretty good combo.

To clarify, this is five stars as an excellent dive bar. Terrific place to come after work, have a few(or many) drinks with your coworkers and friends, and bitch about your day. They’ve got all the things to make a great dive bar: they’ve got outdoor space, they’ve got indoor space, they’ve got darts, they’ve got cheap beer/local beer/draughts of beer/cans of beer/all the beer, they’ve got bathrooms, they’ve got dark and dingy décor, they’ve got waitstaff that ignore you most of the time and have no problem leaving you out in the rain, they’ve got mediocre pub food, they’ve got too many people crushed in a small space, they’ve got all the things. Come early and claim your real estate because it fills up fast!

The Good: Great location and the service was good. The Bad: Subpar food, weak atmosphere and awful AC. Conclusion: Probably won’t be back anytime soon.

Food was pretty good. Nice atmosphere. We had great service out on the patio. I would recommend this pub.

If you have low expectations for service, this place is for you. The bartender was about as lackluster as they come. My beer came with a free drain fly on the foam. I couldn’t wait to finish my beer so that I could get out of there. Barney Fanning’s, across the street is much cleaner and friendlier.

When you read the reviews that say this place is nothing special… believe them. Was in Boston on business and asked the hotel bellhop for food options. He suggested Times Irish Pub. It was across the street and had a large lunch crowd on the patio so in I went. Waiting for the server, I started checking Unilocal reviews and got a bit nervous because of the comments. Before I could change my mind and dash out the waiter came so I ordered the meal. Fish and chips. It’s Boston. This should be good. The good news — this wasn’t the worst food I ever ate. That’s where the good news ends. Unless you are really strapped for time and have no other options, I really wouldn’t bother eating here. The service was fine. The food just made you feel like you had wasted your time. I ‘m really glad I didn’t order anything more complicated than the fish and chips or I might have been even more disappointed. I might have been more satisfied had I eaten nothing.

We sat on the patio on a hot summer day, but it wasn’t so bad at first since we sat under the umbrellas in the shade. But then the wind took out a couple umbrellas & the staff took down the rest so we were stuck in the sun. The staff didn’t offer an alternative place to sit so we moved ourselves to another table out of the sun. It’s a random event but I think the staff could have handled it better rather than leave it up to us to move. Aside from that, the food was pretty good. We tried the clam chowder & fish & chips. Both dishes were decent but neither were our favorite of all the restaurants we visited on our trip.

The Times was OK. They have a nice patio, but it seems like you need to have a table and can’t just hang out outside. The inside is dark and cramped based on the layout of the tables. They do have one dartboard in the back but you’re going to be bumping into people based on where it’s located. A few people in our party got food and it didn’t look great. Beer and sangria were priced reasonably.

Solid 3 stars. Big portion of nachos, on the pricier side($ 15?). Tons of outdoor seating but definitely nothing special in terms of food. Grab a few decently priced beers and split an app and thats all that you need here.

*** 11⁄2013 visit *** Yes, they have a patio. But that’s not something you’re looking for when it is rather cold outside. Something warm for the yummy would be good in this instance. I seriously over-ate the day before, so I was hankering for something smaller than normal. And they have a children’s menu here, so I decided to call in a children’s mac & cheese to go. It comes with a drink for $ 6. This is not your adult’s stringy cheesy type with buttered bread crumbs sprinkled on top. No, this wasn’t gourmet. It was the soupy, off white sort, with soft elbow pasta. But it was good. Just what the tummy ordered! It was flavorful. The noodles not over soft. And the service was cheery. Yup, coming back to try some other things…(don’t you hate it when folks Unilocal something like that and then don’t come back to report on it?) 3 stars *** another 11⁄2013 visit *** Yup, I came back. This time it was for a children’s chicken tenders meal to go which comes 2 crisp white meat tenders to the order along with a pile of crisp fries, and a drink — milk or apple juice — for $ 6. Service was pleasant, and they gave me ketchup along with the honey mustard advertised as part of the meal. Sometimes you just want a little something something, and this paired with the salad I had back in the fridge was just right, and a not too bad for you meal. 3.5 stars *** 6⁄2015 *** ^^^ sorry for the hold up! ^^^ But it sounds like The Times will shortly be forced out of its current location on Broad Street to make way for condos.

Great location with nice outdoor seating which was a plus. Our food was really good, I had the buffalo chicken grilled cheese with fries. Service was good and attentive, overall a happy customer :)

Just went for a beer on the patio and it was perfect for a warm weeknight. Had a leinenkugel’s summer shandy with a lemon. Yum

I really enjoyed my experience here. I had about 45 minutes to get lunch and I asked the bellman at Boston harbor hotel and quickly told the Times! Service was great, felt welcomed as soon as I walked in, I got the pretzel Cuban sandwich and it was fantastic! Perfect amount of mustard and it also came out very fast! I consider myself a beer connoisseur and the beer list was legit! I felt obligated to go with the Sam Adams Rebel IPA cause I’m in Boston. Next time I’m here I will for sure be back to try more food and beers.

My boyfriend & I went to the Times last night and the gentleman seated us at a table to the left of the entrance. There wasn’t really anyone there and I was surprised as it is St. Patrick’s Day weekend. We sat for 20 minutes and no one ever approached our table to take our order. So we left.

I have started to travel to BOS more and the driver from the airport recommended this place. As I always do, I check on Unilocal and was a bit worried. I decided to go anyway as I love a good Irish bar and come on, I’m in Boston. I had to go before 5 for scheduling reasons, and found the place a little more empty than I thought would be. It’s a bit dingy and the bartender was majorly hung-over, but my beer and food were amazing. First, My Guinness was a perfect pour. Second, it was some of the best Clam chowder I have ever had. Finally, the Steak Tips were amazing. Great flavor and very tender. I was blown away. It also helped to see the chef in the kitchen hand prepping all fresh ingredients. So, get over your thin skin and enjoy a great pint and meal!

Like many other reviewers, I sat at the bar waiting to be served as the waitress rudely ignored me. Once my order was placed, it took an additional 30 minutes to be served. For the record: I ordered quesadillas. The restroom was too tiny to wash your hands while someone else entered or exited. I wouldn’t want to be there on a busy night nor will not be returning.

First time I came here and I thought I’d love it. Until I tried to cross into the other bar without knowing that wasn’t allowed. The door was propped open between the bars. Maybe a sign would have been helpful?! Instead the really rude bartender with the beard yelled and snapped his fingers. Hmmm. That’s not okay! Try saying I’m sorry you can’t go through that door? Not nice.

The bad: people you just met at a birthday party should not care more about the a**hole who just knocked your friends drink in his face(because the a** was drunk, dropped his drink, thought my friend did it) than the staff. There was a lot of movement after the incident of drink throwing so the bar staff or DJ must have seen something(the a**s friends were holding him back) but no one told the bouncer. It was only when we left that one in our group said something and the bouncer seemed surprised that it happened and just kind of stood there for a bit before going in. The good: the dance floor looked fun(we weren’t there long enough to try it out) and the DJ was great.

At 2 mins of the port of Boston, The Times you welcome, pub style inside or relaxed pub outdoor. Various sorts of local beers, irish and many others are on the menu as well as dishes. The ideal place to see a match(hockey, basket, soccer etc.) on screen so inside as terrace!
