I love the food here! Try the veggie wrap with broccoli on the side! Dipped in hummus it’s a great tasting healthy dinner! The food was very good and the service was good! The reason for the four stars and not five is because the atmosphere can get very loud as the bar is open. Not a good place for a nice quiet dinner on a Friday at five. Other than that! FIVESTARS!

Just got home from a quick night out with friends. For the most part, I really liked this place and can see why my friends come every Sunday; good music, a good amount of TVs playing a few games and a upbeat and positive crowd. Here is my main issue and to some it may sound petty, but I strongly feel that prices should be accurate. I ordered two moscow mules and was charged $ 24. I don’t think I have been anywhere in Boston that charged that much and that is including some nice places downtown. Considering this is a sports bar in Southie, they have no reason to charge such a high price for a ginger beer and vodka. Interestingly, as I was walking out I asked a waitress is that was the right price and this is what she said; «yes a Moscow Mule is $ 12. If you ask for a ‘ginger beer and vodka’ its the regular $ 6.50». For those of you reading this, am I crazy? Even more unbelievable, she said that you get the later(«Ginger beer and vodka») in a bigger glass. So basically, if you order a Moscow Mule, you get ginger beer vodka and lime in a small mason jar for $ 12. If you order a Vodka and Ginger Beer, you get vodka and ginger beer(just ask for a lime wedge) in a larger beer glass for $ 6.50. I hope someone from this bar reads this review and corrects this because its just kind of ridiculous. Other than that, I liked the place and will go back. But no Moscow Mules for me, thanks.

Terrible wine list and rude bartender. The older guy with grey hair accosted us after someone in our party didn’t like their wine. The first wine was bad– vinegar/turned. Second wine wasn’t good tasting but they didn’t ask her what she wanted to try, just brought out a random. They brought one other for her taste but it was awful. I asked to taste the last wine on the list and the bartender lost it. He was rude and told her to go somewhere else. It was $ 16 down the drain(not even possible at basic bar cost and the first bottle would have had to have been poured out anyway. She didn’t even ask for the second glass of a different kind of wine.) let the customer choose what they’d like to try. And instead of pouring an entire glass of something someone didn’t ask for, work with the customer to begin with. This was honestly ridiculous.

Lovely waitstaff and friendly bartenders, best place to go on East Broadway. There are plenty of regulars that keep the place local and country Sunday is the best night in South Boston!

I love the atmosphere of this place! It’s the perfect spot if you want to go to a bar, but want something a little more upscale food-wise. The sweet potato fries are AMAZING.

Fun place to wrap up Sunday Funday, and a great alternative to Shenanigans as its location deeper into Southie means fewer lost tourists. Solid draught list, and they pull a good pint.

By far the WORST bar in Southie. In the winter, My friends and I ordered a round of Sam Adams Winter Lager, and one of the older bartenders pours us a different drink. When I pointed out to him that the drinks were clearly NOT Sam Adams Winter Lager, he got defensive and said«What are you, a beer connoisseur?,» and then realized they were out of Sam Adams WInter Lager. It would be nice for the bar to have nicer and smarter bartenders who actually know their beers.

One of my favorite spots to go in Southie. They have great food and a nice casual atmosphere. I only go during the week to avoid when it’s packed on weekends or evenings. I love the steak tips here! They are hovered in a mildly spicy BBQ sauce with your choice of two sides! Good beer selection & friendly staff! Great for a date night, work lunch or groups

There is only one reason to go to the Playwright. The nachos! So good. Best I have found in Southie. They don’t skimp on the cheese, and the nachos come out crisp(not soggy like some other places). I enjoy going to Playwright for some beer and nachos. Just avoid the Playwright during weekend evenings when it will be overrun by 23 year olds.

I come here sometimes with my sister. The food isn’t always consistent. But there is one server there who is always on top of everything. I never catch her name, she has an Irish accent and is amazing. She is usually the only server on for lunch and she handles 9 tables as efficiently as she handles 2. She always makes the trip there worth it!

A great local spot with plenty of tvs and room at the bar. Lots of energy and a young crowd. Food was good, better than a normal bar and grill. The steak sauce was tangy and had a nice bite for a sweet sauce. The fruit in the salad was a terrific pairing for the chicken. Service was OK, not as efficient as I would like but still acceptable. For a casual meal or drinks with friends I would definately come back. I’m dying to try the mac and cheese!

Loud, Slow, and Cold. If your lookingfor a place grab a drink its fine, decent atmosphere. However in not reviewing the bar scene, they also«serve» food. Food took 45 minutes, was cold when served and overloaded with sauce If you like waffle fries, they indeed have them but I must warb you the additional $ 1 for waffle fries is insulting. A side should not consist of 13 fries. At a normal dinner time im sure it would have been acceptable, even good. But this was a one time and one time only, will not come back for food again.

An absolute disgrace to South Boston and a so called Irish Bar. I have lived in South Boston for 5+ years and been to this venue several times which included my family and business colleagues. I was there recently with 2 friends and after having lunch and 3 drinks, a bouncer came up to me and told me I had to leave because I was too drunk. Meanwhile, the people in the booth next to us were doing shots, one of them threw up all over the table and they were never asked to leave. I was not too drunk, was minding my own business at 2pm on a Sunday afternoon and 2 waitresses there both stated that I was not drunk nor causing any issues to anyone. I will never go back to this place and will do all I can to ensure it goes out of business by promoting other venues that know how to treat customers. Kharma is a bitch, mark my words.

Everything was very underwhelming from the food to the service. We were there on a Saturday night and the waitstaff was SO slow and they were not busy at all. It also felt like a chain restaurant where everything might be frozen. The Mac & Cheese was the best part of the meal and I spent most of my time eating off the plate of my boyfriend. I ordered the corn chowder that was so under seasoned and bland. The tator tots that were in T and L shapes and were fine but if I am going to have frozen tots just make them the regular shape please :) The deep frying made them not taste like potatoes because they were so thin.

Southie has a lot of options, and I’ve been to a few of them, but find myself coming back to the Playwright. Staff has been great and plenty of food options. This was great for the World Cup… just spotted up and their TV setup was perfect. also, a pleasant surprise was winning $ 100 at Trivia on Tuesday night! **Brushes off his shoulders** All in all, a great bar worth checking out if you’re in the neighborhood.

This place is super fun! We came here for the 2ndUSA World Cup game against Portugal and it was a blast! The crowd was infections and the staff was super nice. The food was great bar food and the drinks were perfect. After the devastating 2nd goal by Portugal we were able to forget with a great country singer! Our friends call it «Country Sunday» and we had a blast! The whole bar sings along with him and you just get swept up in it. We are originally from Texas and here in Boston there are not many country places to go so it was great to be emerged in the environment again. Made me a little home sick and can’t wait to go back!

Love the atmosphere. The workers are nice. The bartenders are nice as well. I would not go here for brunch. I went here for Sunday brunch and got some type of eggs Benedict, and was not a fan. Everyone else at the table was not a fan of the brunch either. Dinner on the other hand is great! Food smells good whenever they walk by. Good appetizers as well as dinner plates. Good selection of beer. and Stump Trivia on Tuesday nights is always fun. That is actually why I go here weekly!
