The food is pretty good but there is not much on the plate and the price is much too high for it.

My partner took me here for post Christmas date since he was away. Great location in the South End. They offered a few different things if you want to get fancy and get a full multi-course meal for a pretty penny(but worth every cent). The choices of meat were great! Of course I went the Rib Eye! It was to die for and they cooked it so well! We also had an appetizer the Antipasti! Yum yum yum. My partner has the NY Strip and love it. Dessert was the chocolate moose! Everything was great! Both the food and the ambiance here are top notch, and the servers are very attentive and knowledgeable Can’t wait to come back for another date night!

I haven’t tried the restaurant so my review is for the butcher shop itself(the retail section that sells meat). First of all the place looks nice, awesome decoration, all the staff were friendly. I asked the butcher to give me a cut of steak, he handled the meat with his hands, no gloves or anything, that was extremely disgusting. Now, when I same to pay, the bill was $ 29 for s piece of NY strip! That too expensive, too expensive. In other places its $ 10-$ 13

The Butcher shop is legit. It has the potential to hit you in the wallet a little, but it’s not likely to let you down. On our first visit, our group of 4 made the«mistake» of ordering the grand charcuterie board, soups/salads, and burgers for lunch. I left the place feeling like a sausage that was boiled to the point of bursting through its casing. The food was so good, though, that I had to finish everything. You could call«Operation Leave No Meat Behind» a success, but I don’t recommend a food coma at 1PM. To each his/her own, though! Needless to say, wisdom prevailed on our next lunchtime visit, as we only got sandwiches, soup, and steak tartare for our two-top. Again, not disappointed… at all. This is perhaps my favorite Barbara Lynch place so far. It’s still a little pricey, but with a much less pretentious vibe than some of the other places. The staff is proud and excited about their food and can really speak to the house-made charcuterie, etc. They’ve got a great wine list and some fantastic ciders on their menu. The staff is informative and can steer you in the right direction if you have any questions and they’re incredibly nice. If you want to explore, just order the grand charcuterie board and drinks. The duck pâté was awesome, as was this one sausage(with Armenian spices, if I remember correctly), but really, everything was excellent. If you want to keep it simple, the burger is really good, as is their BBQ brisket sandwich. The menu changes quite a bit, so don’t take something that sounds awesome for granted. If it sounds amazing, I’d recommend ordering it while you can. As we’ve only gone during the day, I can’t comment on how it gets at night, but I’d recommend reservations regardless of when you’re planning to go. Enjoy!

We had lunch at The Butcher Shop with mixed, but reasonably positive results. First the good: My wife had a «hot dog» which was remarkably good — in texture, it was like a really first-rate bratwurst, but it was not spiced like a brat, but more like a good hot dog. With it came pickled fennel(amazing!) and potato chips which were so crispy and good they didn’t need salt. Pricey, but worth every penny. OTOH, my lunch was their Italian sandwich which was overwhelmed by a very vinegary relish so that I hardly tasted the cheese and meat. The side was an equally vinegary salad. Not bad, but *definitely* not worth the price! I do not care for the seating — it’s all high chairs and not designed for customer comfort. We bought some pates afterwards which were very nice and the butcher was very helpful. I will probably not return to eat, but probably will return to shop.

The Butcher Shop, for obvious reasons, has the best charcuterie board in the city. If you are going with two people and are feeling ambitious I would highly recommend getting the Grand Charcuterie Board. It is well worth it and it gives you a great sample of everything the restaurant has to offer.

Love love love love love this place! It’s small, it’s chill, the wine list is extensive and the food is fabulous. Throw in some great service and your belly ends up very happy. There were four of us and we decided to get one of the 750ml bottles of Sydre— and the Grand Charcuterie… Had we realized how big it was, we would not have ordered the 4 burgers and 3 soups too. Everything was excellent– seriously. We ate, chilled, ate more and never felt rushed. If you haven’t been here yet, you need to go. I also suggest making a reservation. We already made our next one and cannot wait to get back there!

Very disappointed with my meal. The steak was very tough and highly oversalted when it came to the table. I can’t understand why they would put so much salt on the food in the kitchen. But the worst part was to having to pay so much for a very mediocre piece of meat. The ambience took a big hit due to a display case at the rear of the restaurant which was lit by florescent lights and lit up that section of the restaurant. All in all, a sad experience.

This place is great. From the chicaneries to the steaks, everything is always tasty and good quality. Add a good selection of wine and service to the list, and we have formula for a delicious and enjoyable meal. The high tables and bar seats in the small, intimate setting always makes a great place for conversations.

Part of the chef Barbara Lynch consortium(B&G Oysters, Menton, No. 9) the Butcher Shop is what happens when a butchery meets a bar. Trendy neighborhood wine bar in the South End comprised of a medium size bar and small tables along the windows and a butcher’s table in the back. Service can be hit or miss; some of the waitstaff are very helpful and knowledgeable while others come across as arrogant and pretentious. Prices are what is to be expected for the South End. I have been to TBS for dinner and lunch a couple of times and have not been disappointed with the food. The meats, as one would expect from a butchery, are really good as are the sandwiches(served during lunch). The appetizers offered during dinner and lunch are limited and not very filling unless you order the charcuterie plate($ 20/person; cheese extra). It would be nice if the sandwiches came with a side of fries instead of a side of greens. Great selections of wine and German beers.

Very interesting concept for the distinguished carnivore. A small but comfortable bar with an impressive and unquestionably worldly wine list, they offer cheese and charcuterie boards and a la carte entrees consisting primarily of beef and pork cuts. I decided to go with the pork porterhouse which I foolishly ordered medium well. After enjoying the meat closest to the bone, I know I should have gone a temp down(my fault, it was cooked correctly). Have faith in the chefs here, because they actually know how to cook a proper temp on pork. You can order medium here and know you’ll get a delicious tender entrée that isn’t still oinking. The bartender was very helpful in selecting a delicious wine to go with my meal, and was somehow able to keep up with the crazy amount of water I was drinking.

Looking at their menu on display raises lots of questions: why write Schnitznel when its’s a Schnitzel, why Coulotte when it’s culotte and why write Burratta when it’s actually Burrata? If a restaurant doesn’t know what their dishes and ingredients are called, one wonders if they know how to prepare them properly! This is the worst kind of marketing and may stop people from walking in in the first place.

After 9 months telling myself that I was going to go, I finally did. Is a modern French-Italian wine bar & butchery. I would consider it kind of upscale price wise but the ambiance & atmosphere is very casual and cozy, they also play great throwback jams to set the mood. I had the charcuterie board(a combination of cured, cooked or smoked meats) as well as two sides of cheeses which were picked by the chef. I went in late at night so it was perfect to have a glass of wine and a small bite. I left satisfied yet not completely full and my stomach didn’t feel funny this morning which is always a plus for me. Barbara Lynch you have done it again!!! If someone is looking for a local spot to have some apps, a nice glass of wine and relax this could be the –place to go to. Inside tip: They offer butchery lessons & guests are welcome to stop by and purchase cured goods and sausage links!

Honestly, it is not that great. Given how hard it was to get a reservation here, we really expected something better. The charcuterie board was underwelming. We got the 20 per person one, but I couldn’t believe no cheese was included. There was 5 kinds of meat and 3 types of pates — none of them were very good. Nothing extraordinary. We ordered cheese on the side because we really wanted them. Those were good. In my opinion, they were the most remarkable part of the meal. In addition to those, we ordered the shishito peppers, broccolini, and lamb shoulders. Nothing really stands out. They love putting peanuts and almonds into their dishes, but in my opinion they didn’t match with the plates they were served with. The lamb shoulders were very smoked, to the point where I can’t even taste the lamb. Why would I order lamb if I didn’t want to enjoy the taste of the meat itself? I didn’t order a drink, but my companion got the house wine for the day. I had some and it was very unexciting. The overall experience of the restaurant was at most mediocre.

I usually like this place. Food is great and usually the staff is nice. Walked in tonight, asked for a table and ran into the rudest most unpleasant hostess. She starts by asking to wait a minute(no issues with that), but proceed to serve drinks to 5 tables. Finally comes back saying that I need to wait for a seat at the bar. Preferring a table, I ask what the wait for one is. Rudely answers that it will be at least 2 hours(half the tables were empty…). I checked on open table and reservations were available within 30 minutes. Clearly made a terrible impression and I decided to go somewhere else. The only worse things would have been that I got a table and she would have been my waitress! I will certainly think twice about coming back

Great concept — a butcher shop and restaurant. Sadly service is lacking and the food is fair. Definitely not worth the price.

I really wish I could say I loved the meal I had at the Butcher Shop. Despite having heard from a chef friend that the food left a lot to be desired, I decided to give it a try. My friend and I had ordered two petite charcuteries, the duck confit and steak tartar to share. We had briefly considered simply ordering the grande charcuterie and calling it a day but I’m glad we went with the petites instead. A table next to ours had ordered the grande and aside from the addition of a few small bites, there didn’t appear to be much of a difference for the steep price($ 98 at the time). The charcuterie and confit was lackluster in both taste and variety. The steak tartar was on point though and was a nice large serving. The bread it was served on was perfection. Imagine grilled cheese type of toast, finely browned on each side. Having been warned the food would be just okay, I had expected to be wowed by the dining experience instead. Everything was just very standard, from the décor of the restaurant to the service provided. I will note that it is a prime location for some proper dog watching though so kudos to that. Overall. meh. It appears as though this is just an overly hyped up celebrity chef restaurant.

I had been dying to try the Butcher Shop and finally did on my last trip to Boston. I loved everything we got. Our only issue was that we ate with our eyes, and we stuffed after the charcuterie platter. But everything we ordered was delicious. — Charcuterie platter: This is not to be missed. Do the chef’s selection and they will not lead you astray. The terrines and pates were my favorite. I wish they brought out more bread though. — Steak tartare: This was absolutely delicious and I loved the toast that they brought out with it. It was so flavorful and you could tell it was extremely fresh. — Polenta special: We got a special with polenta with rabbit. I absolutely love polenta, and this was delicious. — Kale salad: Very fresh with crunchy turnip and seeds. — Brussel sprouts: Perfectly cooked and crispy. — Gnocchi with lamb ragu: My friend thought it was a bit too salty, but I loved it. It was heavier on the ragu than the gnocchi, which I appreciated. — Strip: It was perfectly cooked at medium rare and tasted like it had been marinated in something salty and amazing. It was perfect. We fully enjoyed the Butcher Shop and I cannot wait to go back the next time I am in Boston.

Went here with a friend to grab a bite to eat on a snow day. The place was pretty empty, even around lunch time so we were able to grab a seat right away. My friend had told me a lot about their burger so we both decided to get that and split a side of Brussels sprouts as well. The burger was excellent. Even though it came out a bit more cooked than I requested(medium), the flavor of the meat was really tasty. It also paired well with the cheese and the bun. I would have loved if the bun was toasted just a little bit, but overall it was a very good dish. It was also served with a small side salad that was good enough, possibly a bit underdressed but nice and light. The Brussels sprouts were served just as they are and had great flavor. I’ve gotten used to restaurants jazzing them up a bit so I sort of yearned for a little extra kick to them, but they were cooked well. Overall, this place is a bit on the pricy side, but the ingredients are top of the line and the flavors are spot on – definitely a strong case for best burger in Boston.

I loved my experience at The Butcher Shop. Such a trendy and chic restaurant. A great place to grab drinks/bar food or even for a date. Came here on a Thursday night with a few girlfriends with a reservation. They sat us immediately. I loved the ambiance of the place and loved how they presented all of the charcuterie in an open fridge. The presentation was beautiful. We ordered the tagliatelle, charcuterie per person, and steak tartare. Every dish was phenomenal. The charcuterie per person is only $ 15, which consists of the chef’s choice of different kinds of cheeses, jams, meats, etc. Presentation was beautiful and the server explained everything accordingly. Everyone here was so caring and very familiar with all of the ingredients and produce. Next, the steak tartare was to die for. Oh my God. Loved the texture of this dish. So soft and tender. The meat was great quality and definitely one of my favorite dishes here. I also loved the tagliatelle. The noodles were perfectly al dente and the ragu was delicious as well. Consistently good food and service. You have to come here.
