Had the best steak of my life! Filet mignon with chimichurri butter was amazing. They also load the fresh fries onto your plate after they deliver the steak. I got the #smashed cocktail– with bourbon, strawberries, basil and maple syrup. It was really good. Expensive but feels worth it for a really great meal Popovers were delicious and I could eat 10

I’ve never has steak cooked this perfectly, and the Boston Chops steak sauce is incredible. I don’t usually eat bread, but when I come here, I have to make an exception simply because the popovers that are served are so amazing. The service is excellent, and I’ve had a holiday celebration here that was lovely. I send friends here all the time. Love!

I’ve eaten here at least three times(once for brunch and twice for dinner) and have never been disappointed. Last Friday night was my most recent visit. I made a reservation for a table for two at 6:45, but was happy to see that there were open seats at the bar(where we tend to prefer to sit for the people watching and bartender banter). We started with a couple of fresh, delicious, perfectly shucked oysters(very clean, no grit whatsoever, and plenty of briny bath still left in the shell). To drink, I had sparkling water, which they make in house. We were also served their traditional popover rolls, which are airy, flaky, and buttery, and served in a little tin with a handle. The service was pleasant and prompt. For our entrees, we chose to split the 14 ounce bone in filet mignon, rather than each getting an 8 ounce cut, so save a bit of money and not waste food. It was expertly cooked(medium rare) — juicy and pink — and absolutely delicious. For sides, we had the brussels sprouts au canard(cooked in duck fat with pork fat bits), and the cauliflower with capers and golden raisins. Nothing was too salty or too oily, and we left feeling perfectly satisfied with our meal!

We had a good first experience at Boston Chops — it’s on the fancier side with great atmosphere. South end is usually really busy and lacks parking spaces, but we got there around 7pm on a Tuesday and found one relatively fast. There weren’t many people dining in the restaurant at that time, but maybe it’s because it was a weekday. I recommend the pork belly mac and cheese and 14 oz double cut pork chop(huge and delicious!). Also, love the hot popovers! The waiter was very patient with us as we asked for more details for some of the menu items and what he recommended.

I first ate at Boston Chops on their opening night nearly 3 years ago, and since then have been countless times for dinner, drinks, brunch, special events, or their late night burger. Where Banq and Ginger Park had failed spectacularly, Boston Chops transformed the space from one where patrons generally went to get hammered late on a weekend night to one that now attracts families, business people, and carnivorous patrons of all ages looking forward to great food. From the outset, Boston Chops marketed itself as an elegant and sophisticated but casual steakhouse that gives it a completely different feel from the more formal chain steakhouses. While I really like those places as well, I appreciate the loft-like décor of exposed pipes and ducts, the leather banquets, and relatively dark lighting. The music is loud and it can get pretty raucous at the bar, all making the place more fun than the average steakhouse. Yet I’ve always found service to be excellent, and I’ve received great service from Josh, Pam, Jose, and Leah, among many others. The steak is what they do best and why most people go, myself included. While other steakhouses sometimes overcooked my steak despite ordering it «as rare as you can make it,» Chops has always nailed it perfectly. I’ve also tremendously enjoyed the fried chicken, various items from their«rarely celebrated» cuts, the Brussel sprouts, and the pork belly Mac and cheese. Later in the evening, the burger is a great deal in the bar area(and comes with a «boozy shake»), and I have enjoyed the huevos rancheros most at brunch along with the smoky Bloody Mary. They also do a fabulous Croque Madame. The bartenders are highly skilled and I’ve enjoyed many cocktails there, my favorites being their classic Chops Manhattan as well as their take on a Fig-infused old fashioned. The wine list is extensive and tends toward American selections, although on my last visit I loved their Quercibella Super Tuscan which was available by the glass and extremely affordable by the bottle. Overall, Boston Chops is an excellent steakhouse with high prices to match, as they are at just about any steakhouse. It’s fun, sophisticated, and elegant, and a great place for a fun night out in the South End.

3.5 stars. Ok dinner but don’t think I’ll go back. We went on a Sunday night the celebrate my boyfriends birthday. Walked in the door and was hit with an unpleasant smell. Fortunately our table was ready right away and the smell wasn’t as intense there. My boyfriend ordered a Manhattan on the rocks. It came out with no ice. I had their version of a Pimm’s Cup, it was pretty good. We were served hot popovers which were delicious! He also ordered the bone marrow app. He seemed to struggle to get the marrow out. There were 3 bones and he really only found marrow in 1. We both had steak frites. The steak was good and perfectly cooked. It came with arugula which was also tasty. The frites however were served at the tabled and although hot, were not very good. We also shared a side of Mac and cheese which was good. The restaurant space had potential. A slight change in décor could make it look a lot classier. There were strange advertisements in the restroom of people dressed up for a night at the restaurant. Some of it seemed rather cheesy. I did not care for the music at all. Our bill came to approx $ 180. For that price I want to be blown away. So I can’t say we’ll go back.

We discovered this place through purchasing Gilt city deal. I come in here without having any expectation. The parking is a pain, it’s almost no street parking on the street. First impression is great, the place is packed and has great atmosphere. We were greeted at the door by the host and greeted again by the waiter when we were seated. Over all customer service is great. Because we have the Gilt City deal, they gave us a separate Manu. I think this is when the whole things going down the hill. We didn’t have much option, pretty much we had to choose 2 choice of 3 entrée option they gave us which is steak and lobster Benedict. The appetizer we only got 2 choice, fried and glaze roll. The taste overall is just okay, consider how fancy and the price we paid for this food. We paid $ 69 for 2 of us through Gilt. That mean without gilt, this foods should cost more which I don’t think it’s should. The beef is chewy and plain, the lobster was bad. No choice for foods selection on the menu is a big mistake!!!

This review covers both a dinner and brunch visit within a 2 week time frame. Another spectacular performance by Boston Chops on both occasions! However, I had to reduce my ratings to a 4 star performance. I had a recent visit to the Capital Grill, and the meat quality was far superior. That being said, Boston Chops is still a great steak house and I had an awesome time here. On the dinner side, you can’t go wrong with any of the items on the menu. My favorites are the steak tartare, seafood royale, and the ribeye. In terms of the sides, I’d recommend the pork belly mac(make sure you request less salt), spicy broccoli, brussel sprouts. Everything is delicious, I can’t complain. The brunch was pretty spot on as well. I had purchased a Gilt City deal and it included sticky buns, croque monsieur, 2 entrees(fried chicken and biscuts & ny strip with eggs), and a pineapple cheesecake. For some odd reason, we only got 2 sticky buns as opposed to 4. Not sure what happened there. The fried chicken was delicious! Perfectly cooked and juicy. The biscuits were pretty dry but not terrible. The pineapple cheesecake was the best cheesecake I’ve ever had. I’m sure its seasonal so make sure you get it! Again, I’m a huge fan of Chops. I’d highly recommend this spot to everyone.

This was a hard review because some things were outstanding and the other stuff were unimpressive. I went there for thanksgiving dinner with my mom. We were greeted promptly and our servers were very attentive. I got one of their signature drinks(I can’t remember the name but it had cucumber vodka and ginger beer) – that was delicious!!! They also brought out a couple of rolls which were also outstanding so I was looking forward to the thanksgiving meal We both order the meal and in a edition I order the pork belly Mac and cheese. The turkey was very dry, and there wasn’t enough gravy to make it easy to wash down. The stuffing was bland. Literally just bread, with a little seasoning, very unimpressed. The sweet potato side was decent, and so were the green beans. However, the pork belly Mac and cheese was out of this world!!! My mom, who isn’t a Big Mac and cheese fan loved it. I still will be back, because while the thanksgiving dinner was blah, especially for the price we paid, I want to be able to dine off their regular menu and hopefully give them a better rating, as it looked like a real cool spot

Overall: 5 Food: 5 Service: 5 Value: 4 Came here with my sister on Thanksgiving, intending to try out their Thanksgiving special, but then got tempted away by the steak menu. The popovers they served us were delicious and kept us going while we waited for our steaks. My sister got the 14oz Prime NY Strip and I got the 18oz Food & Wine Bone In Rib Eye, with bone marrow. My rib eye was one of the most flavorful steaks I’ve had, and it was also presented quite beautifully. They really managed to cook the flavor into the meat. I tried some of the NY strip as well, which was also quite tasty, though I prefer rib eye. The service was also excellent.

We came in a group of 12(!!) to celebrate a friend’s birthday. For large party settings, Boston Chops can definitely accommodate. We were seated at a long rectangular table, so that we never spoke to the other half of the table during the dinner. Our server was able to take care of the large group very well. He had to repeat and answer questions multiple times just because of the nature of our table layout, but he was courteous and respectful! wine + FREAKSHOW: This Cabernet Sauvignon was the perfect complement to our steaks. We ordered a bottle of this wine and had additional glasses for the table. food + POPOVER: The complimentary bread is served individually for each guest in a little pot. The bread is fluffy, soft in the center, and airy with a crunchy exterior. Basically the best bread to start. ~ BONEMARROW: I love bone marrow, and the presentation of this appetizer was definitely unique, but it distracted from actually eating the dish. The marrow was presented whole with the marrow still inside. It was very difficult to take it out of the bone, put onto our grilled baguette slices, and eat. It was a complete mess. After eating the popover bread, I didn’t enjoy the baguette as much. + STEAKFRITES(8 oz): I opted for the FLATIRONSTEAK while my boyfriend got the NYSTRIP with chimichurri butter sauce. Although I ordered the flat iron steak medium rare, it came out more rare than my boyfriend’s medium rare. We ended up switching our meats and I was happy with the NY Strip. Was it the best steak I have ever had? Not quite. The steak frites is a great deal — you get a side arugula salad and freshly fried fries presented after the plate is already set on the table. tips * If you are celebrating a birthday, the dessert is not free. * Consider in advance how you would like to split sides if you are in a group. They add up very quickly. * There is no limit to the amount of credit cards to cover a bill. No credit card roulette needed!

Wow. believe the hype. Came here for a 730p reservation and was seated outside on a warm october night. this place was fucking awesome. +service was on point– excellent service and they were super attentive. +wine was AMAZING. 10 dollars a glass some of the lightest, best wine i have ever had! +the halibute was amazing +the pop overs were like taking me a time machine back to my childhood and the old anthony’s pier 4 in seaport that used to exist back in the day buffet. +wonderful dessert: holy shit that rum raisin bread pudding thing was to die for. +not terribly expensive — 52ish per person and it was seriously some of the best food i have ever had in the south end. after living here for 4 years i finally was able to try this place and it was fucking awesome!!! way better than del frisco’s and any other steak place in the boston area… YUM.

I came here a few weeks ago with 3 other friends and we had a great time. The space is gorgeous! Trendy but still classy. The tables are a bit crammed in the space, though, so it is very reminiscent of NYC restaurants. Everything we tried for food was great. They start you off with popovers right out of the oven, which were delicious and really different! We tried the beef heart for apps, which came paired with a really nice chimichurri-esque sauce. I am excited to try more of the«rarely celebrated» dishes! My boyfriend and I shared the 14 oz ribeye steak, which the waiter had split for us back in the kitchen. It was cooked perfectly and the texture was extremely tender. A great steak. Then for sides we had mac and cheese, onion rings, brussels sprouts and mashed potatoes. Although we enjoyed them all, I have to call out the awesome onion rings. They come stacked high in a tower and they are huge and crispy and pretty much perfect. Not something I expected to pair with steak, but it went super well. What kept me from giving this place 5 stars was that our waiter was a bit odd… I think he was trying to be funny/clever but it came off as rude. For example, the menu says the steak frites comes with«generous frites». It is a bit unclear what it means, but to us it implied«bottomless». So we asked if that was the case, and he laughed and said«this is not Applebees!» Well, you don’t say friend, we’re well aware of that because we’re paying wayyyyy higher prices than we would at Applebees! And in the end — yes, the fries are effectively bottomless. We had another server come by no less than 3 times to offer us refills. Another weird moment with our waiter was when we were trying to decide if we wanted another round of drinks(the first one was ordered at the bar). As we’re deciding, he says«well I don’t even know what you are all drinking» in a snarky tone… Yes, we’re aware, we didn’t order these from you and you’re probably not a mind reader! He could have waited for us to tell him or said something like«can you remind me again what you’re all having?» I hope he gets coached on that. For the prices we paid, I was not in the mood for a waiter with a strange sense of humor. Outside of that, we had a pretty solid experience, food was great, and I would like to go back at some point.

Wow, this was one of the best dinners I have had in Boston! My sales manager usually books the same restaurants each time we visit Boston so I was thrilled when he made reservations at Boston Chops instead of one of our usual dining spots. Since we visit Boston for an annual seafood convention I spend most of my time eating seafood and it is nice to take a break from the seafood and indulge in some steak. We started off our dinner(accidentally) with the Royale Fresh Seafood Plateau. Accidentally? There was some miscommunication with the waiter and we thought we had ordered two dozen raw oysters, not an entire tower of seafood!!! Luckily this appetizer was amazing despite it’s hefty price tag. Our appetizer included several towered tiers of fresh seafood such as oysters, jumbo shrimp, ceviche, and lobster. As amazing as this appetizer was I do admit it was too much food for our table of six and we may have ordered less food had we known we were going to start off our meal with a seafood feast! My filet mignon was absolutely heavenly and was cooked to a perfect medium rare as I had requested. I could have done without the fries that accompanied my steak, but they were good. Obviously we did not save room for dessert, but the dessert menu sounded so good! Service was very attentive, the wine menu offered several interesting bottles of wine, and our food was fresh and delicious so I think we may have to book reservations again next year when we are in Boston!

Full disclosure: the reason I picked this restaurant was for the mac and cheese. I may or may not have looked up the best mac and cheese in Boston and stumbled upon this gem in the South End. So the mac and cheese is where I’ll begin: AMAZING. Cheesey. Creamy. Topped with pork belly. Yaaaasss. The steak was also great, I got the Hanger and I loved that it comes with endless fries. Let’s just say the server said«tell me when» and I never said a word. I got the Bordelaise and my friend got the Béarnaise but I definitely found myself reaching over to steal her sauce more than once. We got the oxtail croquettes as well were were good but not as great as that mac and cheese. Ugh.

Nice waitress, blah food. Was really looking forward to a good steak and heard great reviews but the 24 oz ribeye was nothing more than blah. The Brussels sprouts were great! Mushroom and the kale sides were awesome! Fried calamari was good. Can’t go wrong with the onion soup. Have the super Tuscan wine with your steak. But I think skip the steak. Oh, almost forgot… Sitting outside was great because of the heat lamps! That helped gain a star.

Great ambience but didn’t meet my expectations. Came here last night for restaurant week with my family. My sister and I started off with some drinks(southern hospitality and Summer Spritzer). Southern Hospitality was delicious! Basically an alcoholic iced tea. My sister liked her Spritzer but it wasn’t sweet. A bit tangy. For our meal, I got the $ 10 Cabernet and my sister got the Riesling. The Cabernet wasn’t to my taste. Lighter than I would have preferred. The Riesling was on the dry side. They start you off with popovers. If I have ever had crack, this would be it. For our meal, we ordered the Caesar salad, oysters and oxtail. The Caesar salad was just a plate of romaine lettuce with long strips of cheese, dressing, crispy bread and anchovies. Anchovies on a salad? So weird. My dad liked it though. I think lettuce being served in big pieces is lazy. So much work to eat a salad. Though i know other places do the same. Is that suppose to make it more upscale? The oysters were amazing! Meaty, a little bit salty and everything I wanted in an oyster. The appetizer came with 4. The oxtail croquettes was quite delicious. Crunchy yet meaty. For entrees, we got the hangar and the NY strip. I actually preferred the hangar over the strip. All steaks came with arugula and fries. I liked how the servers came out with a bowl of fries after to add them to the late so they were still crunchy. We got the house sauce and the peppercorn. House had this taste that was a bit spicy. I have a hard time trying to figure out what was in that sauce. Anyways, the peppercorn one was delicious. I think it was some of the steak juices plus something more savory and sweet. I took off a star because the steaks were cooked inconsistently. Much of them were overdone which made them tough and less tender. For desserts, we got the crème brûlée and the toffee pudding cake. The crème brûlée was disappointing because the custard wasn’t set yet. Mushy and a tad too sweet. No toppings like fruit to break the sweetness. The toffee pudding cake was SO good. Sweet, right density. I am salivating thinking about it. Overall, not bad. I took off another star because thought the service was good when I first came in, it got worse throughout the meal. Appetizers came out then it took a while for the steaks. The restaurant wasn’t busy yet. Then it took a while for the desserts. When they brought out the desserts, they brought out 3 and we didn’t get the rest until the server checked on us. He seemed mad that we didn’t have the other 2. I still tipped the server over 20% because it wasn’t his fault that the kitchen was slow/backed up. They did keep our water filled and they came around to refill our fries which was nice except way too many fries. I will never understand the steak frites. i want steak and veggies. But that is just me.

So now I’ve been to Boston Chops for dinner, Restaurant Week/Dine Out Boston for $ 38 mind you, but dinner never the less. And it was before the snow of our Great White February 2015(my own words) had entirely melted, so parking wasn’t back to normal yet. Though we did manage to find a spot on Washington Street. Legal, too! Hot fresh popovers, each in their own individual tin, excites me. Fresh, hot fries excites me. Even more so when they are served to me at the table from this gigantic bowl. Steak in general, however, doesn’t excite me, though sometimes I find myself quite pleasantly surprised. This was not one of those times. I was, however, quite impressed that when I had offhandedly responded to our server’s inquiry as to how things were, that I found my steak a little more cooked than I had wished, but I was fine and would keep it… a manager appeared to check up on me and my steak! Many hands make light work. Sure. And so it was one person taking our order and pouring our first glasses of water. Another person bringing over the warm popovers and soft butter. Yet another delivering the appetizer, and so on, and so forth. But it was a little tough to find the proper person to ask for a cup of coffee to go with dessert after the one delivering it misheard«coffee» for«toffee» and so helpfully swapped our desserts. Speaking of which, the desserts were my favorite course of the evening. Normally priced at $ 12 apiece, both the Sticky Toffee Pudding, Butterscotch Sauce, Fig Crumb, Rum Raisin and the Classic Vanilla Bean Crème Brulee were quite good! The crème brûlée more light and creamy than normal beneath the melted sugar armor was large enough a portion that neither of us minded sharing it. The pudding was actually a cake, and this one was dense and moist and rich. A jump back to the beginning, and a quick comment about my appetizer, the Crispy Oxtail Croquettes, Red Pepper Mostarda. It arrived two slightly pressed golf balls with a crisp shell encasing… meat. Lots of shredded meat. On a sweet sauce. It was nice, though I surely hope that their normal appetizer size at $ 12 an order is larger than this twin portioned RW plate. 3.5 stars, rounded up because of the reasons stated above. Your choice of still or sparkling water is on the house. Of all the staffers we had serving us this night, I was most impressed with the fellow who refilled our glasses a number of times(so, I was thirsty!), as he was the most available and was able to respond to our requests for a second round of popovers, and for more fresh hot fries.

I was feeling steaky and decided to give this place a try. I sat at the bar waiting for my date and the bartender suggested the pamplemousse — it was a delicious concotion of champagne and grapefruit juice. Definitely recommend it. For dinner, my boyfriend and I ordered the roasted bone marrow to start, then the 14 oz rib eye, the john dewar’s butcher cut(that night it was a bone-in NY strip), and a side of the twice baked loaded potato. The bone marrow was okay — the ratio of bone marrow to topping was a bit disappointing and most of the marrow had completely liquefied. My rib eye was a lot leaner than I’m used to — tasted more like a NY strip and my boyfriend’s bone-in NY strip was decent, but not worth the $ 79 charge. We hardly touched the potato — it wasn’t terrible, but definitely nothing of note. Overall, it was a pretty average experience that was definitely not worth the price tag.
