Salon 236

I was looking for a new hairdresser and read the fantastic reviews for Salon 236 and hesitantly made an appointment. I walked by the place many times and never quite knew what to make of it. It looks dilapidated at best.
I was given an appointment with Audrey. I walked in and was pleasantly surprised by its wonderful appearance. During my short wait I saw happy clients with beautiful haircuts. I became increasingly excited about the prospects of an equally beautiful cut.
I wear my hair short and have had some bad experiences. Either the hairdresser is worried about going too short or as my last one did, cut it like her own hair.
Audrey did precisely as I requested along with using her own artistic intuition. I was very happy. Along with a great haircut, it was comparatively inexpensive. I will definitely be going back!
Don’t make the same mistake I did and be fooled by the outward appearance. Inside is 100% hip professionalism.

All the hair dressers are great. I’ve been to two of them — Jess and Courtney — and my friends have seen others as well. All satisfied customers. Jess gave me a beautiful cut — layered, side bang, perfect. She also gives an unbelievable shampoo!
Tanning is cheap, $ 5 a pop I believe, but the bed and booth aren’t what you see in a tanning salon. All in all though, they get the job done.
Facial waxing is a plus too!
And if nothing else, these ladies will keep you entertained. I have more laughs in this place than anything. I would highly recommend this salon to everyone!

The receptionist was awesome! The hairdressers and even customers were all very pleasent and down to earth. Very relaxed and welcoming environment. I requested Nichole M. I read about her reviews on Unilocal.She listened to what i wanted, made suggestions and with my approval, she used her discretion. My hair turned out even better than i hoped! I had an «umbra» done. I have shoulder lenght, light brown hair and i wanted the ends of my hair bleached. A trendy look that’s popular right now. Nichole suggested I wanted an «umbra», which looks like highlightes that have grown out.
Basically i got a partial high light, with a toner. No haircut. A wash, blow dry and style. I was charged $ 70. The entire process took approximately 2 hours.

Salon 236 offers a wide variety of services & you will get what you want (everything from tanning to feather extensions) at a fraction of the cost of what I’ll call, «upscale» salons [You Unilocalers know what I mean]
All the stylists are good but Nicole is outstanding. She’s up to date on the latest trends and techniques & my cut is always exactly what I expect and more. Bring cash because they don’t take plastic & watch out for street cleaning [but we all already know this]

Unfortunately there is no longer threading at this salon. I did want to provide an update at I’ve been getting my hair done here for over a year. Prices are beyond reasonable and actually cheap for Boston. Nicole is really good and provides a mean blow dry to my super thick hair. This is cash only. Nicole is usually booked, so make an appointment in advance, you won’t be disappointed.

Nicole is fantastic!!! She is also a perfectionist! I was running in to get my hair done on my lunch break, and she was finishing up another client so I didn’t get in the chair till I only had about 25 min left of my break. She cut my hair perfect, blew it dry w curls that lasted 3 days, and I still got back to work on time. Overall I can’t say enough about this place! Great price, great work, I have been there only twice now, but this is def my new salon!

Just an update — apparently the girl who was doing the threading went to NYC and they are not sure if/​when she is coming back.

This place is amazing!!! ASK FOR NICOLE M. She should be working for holywood that is how amazing she is. She knows exactly what would look good on you and I can definately say after this experience she was 100% right. My hair was soooo dry and I havent colored it for over 10 years so she recommended that I put a semi permanant color in it and it will take care of the dryness. So she did and she was right… even a few weeks later my hair still looks sooo much healthier, shiny, and I cant tell you how many compliments I get. She also gave me an amazing hair cut (I told her to do whatever she wanted) it was so amazing it looked like I was wearing a wig… not to mention my hair style she did lasted for 3 days (it looked so amazing I didnt want to wash it lol) Finally I found a stylist that knows what she is doing. I will definately be back at least once a month. Oh and also this entire process (wash, color, cut, and style!!!) only took a little over an hour… I couldnt believe how fast she was and how perfect my hair came out. Thank you Nicole!!!

Stumbled into this salon because I saw the $ 5 tan sign from the street. I always thought this place was a little creepy just because the façade is so dingy and dark, but inside this place is not only immaculate BUT the staff is phenomenal. I figured this $ 5 tan would turn out to be a 5 minute dirty lay down experience instead they offer either lay down OR stand up for up to 11 minutes no additional charge! Love this place, $ 5 has never made me happier!
