Good little store. Some things are above average in price but only by cents. Great meat area and for side dishes thay have you coverd, Potatoe macaroni salad Etc… Meat prices are fair and the subs they make are very good also at a good price and quality ingredients .The people who work there make you feel at home and are very patient with your needs and with a smile which are free. Will visit again soon again since i live close and never thoughtthis hidden gem is in my neighborhood.

Such nice people! They don’t always have what you’re looking for but it’s a great place to snag the basics that you’re missing. Their deli is amazing! Great prices and super nice butchers. Their Italian sausages and marinated steak tips are some of my favorites. They also have a good assortment of beer and wine– they take credit cards so it’s easier than the liquor store across the street that is cash only.

Bell’s is outstanding. The owners are there basically all day every day, and always go the extra mile to make sure you’re taken care of. The meat selection is better than any retail supermarket, with better prices. They frequently have prime-grade ribeye steaks for $ 8.99/lb, compared to $ 20/lb at the supermarket. The steak tips are also awesome. The produce turns over quickly and is always super fresh, the fruit gets delivered daily and is delicious, and the beer selection is right up there with the«curated, high end craft selection» yuppie money traps on Broadway, with much better prices. Local, convenient, family-owned places like this are what make city living enjoyable, and they deserve our business as a reward.

3.5 stars for Bell’s, rounded up to 4 because it’s so convenient and many of their employees are very friendly. Beer, wine, a pretty decent selection of basic groceries, and a deli counter. That, their chilled Gatorade selection, and the fact that I live right around the corner, means I am here many times a week. Yes, it looks a little sketchy from the outside, but it’s fine on the inside and perfect for the times when I a. need booze or b. need to pick something up and don’t feel like dealing with a trip to South Bay. Also, their fruit is delicious. Great neighborhood store that stocks the essentials!

This place is GROSS! Dirty and dingy. I don’t think anything here has been fixed or replaces since the 40s… and it needs to be! I am offended at seeing people purchase beer or wine or cigarettes on a welfare card! It’s offensive to those of us who have to work and pay taxes. Also the quality of food is deplorable! They keep raw chicken in a trash bucket that looks like it’s never been cleaned. The staff looks as if they are homeless and brought in off the street to work as needed. I once got some brisket and a loaf of bread there and the brisket was dis colored on one small side and the bread was OLD(crunchy on one end). I know a lot of people in Southie [including my mother and father] think this place is great but I swear to you, my taste buds and sense of smell can’t be wrong… this place is an F… BUYERBEWARE!

This is a great family owned business and I try my best to support there local privately owned family business whenever I can. I actually prefer to get my regular grocery items from them, rather than dealing with the annoyances of the local over priced and over crowded chain grocery stores. The owners are so friendly, polite, respectful, professional, and helpful… a very small town atmosphere. No, its not designed to look like the Queens Palace, but its a small trade off in hindsight because there items are low priced.

I grew up and Southie and I recently went to Bell’s and bought the BBQ Special it was great and the meat is great quality — 4 pounds of Chicken Wings, 4 pounds Hamburger, 4 Sausage, 4 Steaks and 2 London Broils — I have a family of 4 and this lasted over two weeks — if money is tight the price right!

Ok honestly it brings tears to my eyes thinking about leaving southie just because I would be leaving this place. From the outside it looks nassstyyy but inside is very clean and the owner is SO nice. He is always chatting me up when I am in there and knows my family(even my gorgeous pitbull). He is willing to order anything if you ask. My husband loveeesss the deli because not only is it dirt cheap but its incredibly fresh. The first time I walked in I could not believe it was so big and had pretty much everything a regular grocery store has.

The first time I went in here, the lady welcomed me to the neighborhood and asked if I wanted her to order anything in particular. Great prices and deli. This place is the cat’s pajamas.

Bell’s Market has been in the same place since the 1890’s and when you walk in you know it, the place is full of dusty cans of spaghetti O’s and Dinty More beef stew as well as other unsold sundry items from years past. The laminate tile flooring which must be several decades old is cracked and peeling, and the ownership shows no interest in replacing it. This place has been in business since the 1890’s and change is not one of their specialties, which in some ways can be a good thing. One particular thing that has probably not changed much over the past few decades is the butcher counter at the back of the store. I used to live across the street from Bell’s and frequently purchased from their butcher counter, they have very reasonable prices and can cut whatever you want on the spot. Do you need 3 inch thick butterflied pork chops? They do it for you. How about freshly sliced bacon cut to whatever thickness you want even the legendary extra extra thick? Yep they got that covered. Do you want to make a Turducken and need someone to de-bone a chicken, a duck, and a turkey for you? Well, they can do that. On top of being able to do these things upon request, they can order specialty meat for you, so if you need afresh turkey for thanksgiving or some goat or lamb they can get it. Their in house selection of meat is sometimes limited, but at they can always get what you want if you place a special order. If you don’t see something, ask about it, they have a huge refrigerator in the back overflowing with meat. Their hamburger and sausage are made in the back, once I went in for some hamburger meat, they were out, so they said to give them10 minutes and they ground up fresh hamburger. Their home made sweet Italian sausages are absolutely amazing, and the guys that work there are pretty nice most of the time. I only go in this place for meat and cold cuts, avoid buying vegitables and other items as they are usually old and about to go bad. I have had luck once in a while buying the fruit that they keep up by the register, just realize you need to eat it pretty much as soon as you get it.
