I’d rather go to wing night than eat the pizza. The toppings were sliding off of the Diablo pizza, which was underwhelming in spice. There was no sausage on the other pizza ordered, even though it was ordered and showed up on our bill. The server did take it off before we paid though! The appetizer(nachos) came after our entrée, which looked like a sad pile of tortilla chips with cheese that was melted in a microwave.

Wow that’s a slice of pie!!! One visit has ensured I return. Great crust, toppings, size and value. Thank you to the friend who brought me! Also thank you to Penguin for letting me know a long lost beer is once again in production. Celis white. Mmmmmmmmmm!

Good pizza, friendly & prompt service from the guy manning the bar and waiting tables. Came in for lunch past noon, and sat at a 2-person table. The specials can be a little hit-or-miss, but the specials are usually good. The best one(some spicy one we haven’t seen for awhile… Phoenix-something?) wasn’t on offer that day, but we got the broccoli & chicken and the seasonal(pureed butternut squash, goat cheese). Huge slices for under $ 4 with a nice thin crust. Sometimes the oven can singe it and it’ll be slightly burnt in spots(the seasonal one was), but like many pizza places, the heavier the toppings, the less likely that will happen. Really enjoyed the chicken & broccoli, myself. Will definitely be back for more. They have Young’s Doubke Chocolate Stout, amongst a lot of other good beer on hand.

Things I love about the Penguin: — Wide range of niche beers — Delicious pizza to satisfy the cravings at all times of day — Friendly bartenders /servers — Quick service I hadn’t visited the Penguin in quite a few years, but finally had a chance to come back to my old Mission Hill neighborhood for a good friend’s surprise birthday. Did you know you can rent out the space for a few hours at a time to host events like birthdays or smaller corporate gatherings? We had the space to ourselves for 3 hours in the afternoon. I learn something new every day. The Penguin did an outstanding job managing our group of 35 people — plenty of pizza was readily available, as were wings, beer pretzels, and side salad. Each dish was replenished quickly, and the servers were great at managing our drink requests. We had options of BBQ chicken, pulled pork, and margherita pizza available to choose from — all equally delightful. The birthday boy is a bit of a beer connoisseur, so the fact that Penguin had so many options meant he could get closer to completing his Penguin Beer Passport. The only downside is the sparse parking in the area and restroom availability. Otherwise, it’s a fantastic place to eat, drink, and be merry!

I’m giving this place two stars(one for the cool ceiling decorations & another star for their huge slice). Other than that, my friend and I were unsatisfied with this place. We ordered the loaded fries(the cheese wasn’t gooey enough. to us, we felt this dish might have been put out there for awhile, thus the lukewarm temperature of this appetizer. Disappointed). We ordered the special price slice pizza(I think it was $ 3ish for a slice, only a few choices to choose from). The pesto pizza we got was overly greasy. we felt we were stuffing ourselves with oil!). One good thing about this place is that one slice is equivalent to two slices(in other places)

The pizza was good. We had the pepperoni pizza and the fig pizza. That fig pizza is a must have! They have a lot of interesting pizzas and gluten free versions as well. Their beer selection is pretty great. Lots of beer on draught.

Amazing pizza! I have the Fungus Amongus quite often and its great. I have taken a bunch of my friends whenever they visit Boston and they have all loved it too. I also like the atmosphere, its small and cozy during the winters. They have also set up the air conditioning recently — that was a great change for the summer. Very well priced food as well. I would recommend anyone in and around Boston to try this place out!

Pizza is ok at best. They should change their name from Penguin Pizza to Penguin Pub. It looks like they do ok In the beer department. The service was horrible. I walked in and sat at the bar. Nobody acknowledged me for at least 10 minutes(after a few minutes I put the timer on just for kicks). I ordered a coke and 2 slices of pepperoni. About 5 minutes later the server put a ½ of a pizza in front of me. I immediately asked him to box half of it-thanks for the heads up dick. The pizza was soupy and soggy. I totally understand why they give you a knife and fork. Oh and thanks for the 1 tiny paper napkin dick. The very end of the crust was good. I got my bill and instantly gave my card to the server. He walked around with it for a while then about 10 minutes later returned it with a pen. I took my phone out again and calculated a 15% tip, signed my name, took my ¼ of a pizza, walked out the front door and threw my shitty pizza in the first trash barrel I saw. A doorway I’ll never darken again.

Pizza and other food available here and from my first experience walking through the door(greeted with a smile), it was a pleasant experience. The food is great and the wait staff were very nice, accommodating and available. We enjoyed everything. The pizza wasn’t too oily and it was huge. Be warned that the food comes out HOT! Our server let us know that and a good thing as my kids would have burned their mouths. A great casual dining experience.

Definitely one of the best pizza restaurant in Mission Hill. I had the tuscany fig pizza and it was more than delicious, really, you should try it. They also have a very big selection of beers from all over the world. The environment is very relax. Perfect for a friday night with friends.

The pizza is good. Tasty crust with a little bit of sauce and quite a bit of cheese. Slightly greasy and messy so definitely have some napkins on hand. The atmosphere is a bit odd. A little annoying with the windows open and napkins flying all over the place… but it was a nice day out so I suppose it was good to get some fresh air. Not many seats but a good sized bar and the ceiling is pretty neat. Unfortunately, the service was atrocious. We got our drinks & ordered our pizza and it was brought to us. That was it. Our drinks were empty– no refills. We had to go up to the bar to ask the bartender for the check. Hate having to do things like this! Especially when there is nauseating metered parking that takes quarters only. Who has a pocket full of quarters anyway? So getting the check before the meter ran out caused some annoyance, especially since we gave ourselves ample time to eat out. Likely won’t be back. But my suggestion is: order take out! Or perhaps sit at the bar where you can get better service. The prices are pretty decent so it would have been a better experience if we had done this.

I can’t believe I haven’t left a review yet for Penguin! This place is awesome and the only place I order pizza from. I live in JP and its worth the extra delivery a wait(thank god I live in the 2 mile radius) or the trip to Huntington for pick up. The crust is chewy and thin and the cheese and toppings are delicious! I like making my own with mushrooms and spicy sausage. Only complaint is that the margherita doesn’t have much basil. Also, try the pretzel sticks! Might as well load up on carbs!

I came here thinking that it would be similar to Domino’s or Pizza Hut, but boy was I wrong. The moment I walked in, I was greeted with the bar-like atmosphere — dim lights, warm and stuffy, jukeboxes, and old-school posters. It was about 730pm on Sunday, and the restaurant was not crowded at all. The host welcomed us to sit at any table we wanted to. He was very laid-back. We passed the bar and chose to sit near the open kitchen. The kitchen was right beside the tables, which may be the reason why the place was so warm. The pizzas were all made from scratch and could be seen how they were made. The menu was a folded piece of laminated paper, which I thought fit the atmosphere of a bar. I got the fig and prosciutto pizza, large, for about 16.99 for the 18 inch pizza. The smaller size was for 13.99 for a 14 inch pizza. It took about 15 minutes for the pizza to come out, which was quite a while, considering that there was not many people in the restaurant. When the pizza came out, I was shocked to see how big it was. It was literally so big that I got full from eating 4 slices of the thin crust pizza. The fig was in a jelly form, which made the pizza very sweet. Instead of being a dinner pizza, it seemed more of a dessert pizza. Its high level in sugar actually made my head hurt. The first slice was amazing, but the latter slices were a struggle to eat. The menu had very exotic pizzas. I wanted to try all of them because they all sounded so good. Next time, when I crave pizza, I will come here instead of eating at a fast food pizza place. I would come here again.

The dough is crispy and yum! Ultimate penguin is amazing! Medium size would be enough for people who don’t eat a lot. Delicious pizza in Boston!

Penguin Pizza is a mixture of fancy, laid back, gourmet, dive, etc… but not in an overly confusing way. We had the butternut squash pizza, which was not at all what I expected, but every bit as delicious as I hoped it would be. It had no sauce, but squash in its place, which was undetectable. The goat cheese and leeks went together in the pizza perfectly. It was rich, salty, sweet, and satisfying. My ONLY complaint was that it kept falling over when I picked it up, so I had to use a knife and fork. (If that’s the only complaint then that’s good in my book.) The drinks were fantastic too. I prefer lighter-tasting beers and so I had the grapefruit beer. Somehow our waiter knew I would like it, and brought it over to taste before I had the whole glass. I was very happy. Service-wise it seemed like the staff was getting a bit distracted — I wanted a water, and one waiter forgot to bring it, and got into a conversation with someone. The other servers would look at my drink before asking if I needed anything, instead of looking at me, so we had to flag them down for that water. It’s not really that big of a deal, but if I had to change something to make the experience even better, this would be it. Would definitely go back to get that pizza… mmm.

We ordered eight pizzas, salads and appetizers for delivery and everything was great. The following pizzas were clear winners: Duck confit, Roasted eggplant and Fungus Amungus. Large pizzas are a great size and can easily serve about 3 – 4 people. The crust has a great chew and is a hybrid between a thin and medium crust thickness. We ordered a few salads with the pizzas and they were not that great, for a salad that is $ 8 you would expect more cheese or extra toppings other than lettuce. I would recommend sticking to pizza and skipping the salad. For appetizers we all shared the french fries, fried pickle spears and jalapeño poppers. The appetizers were so good that there was none left after opening the box. Very good fried food! Penguin pizza is very good pizza, especially in the Longwood area. They also accept orders for pick up or delivery.

This review is just for drinks and atmosphere! I ordered the Ommegang Glimmer Glass Saison off of the draught menu — how do you avoid ordering something called«glimmer glass»??? It was delicious. I got the sense that everything on their nice beer menu was probably delicious. The prices are also super cheap for Boston — nice beers for $ 6, and a selection from $ 4(maybe even cheaper; I didn’t look that closely at the PBR). They do a beer passport, but when I mentally calculated the cost, I balked at the price of my mug. Probably not going to do that. One of my friends thought the atmosphere was dingy feeling, but I didn’t get that sense at all. The tables could be nicer, but I liked the primary colors theme, and felt that the lighting was just right. Also, they took my friend’s out of state ID, and they let us sit at the table without ordering food. I will certainly be back to test the pizza. Then, this may become my place. Edit: I came back and tried their Pimento Pizza, and now I’m totally sold. A medium was enough to feed two people! And it was $ 12! How great is that? Three slices of pizza and a beer for $ 12 a person? I am THERE.

I don’t know what they put in their pizza, but it is absolutely addicting. During my visit to Boston, my friends and I decided to give Penguin Pizza a try 1. because it was nearby, and it was –2 degrees and 2. because it looked like a very inviting, hole-in-the wall type of place. And I am happy to say, that it was probably one of the best meals I had in Boston(even better than Toro… what?). Penguin Pizza seems like a really laidback, fun place to come and hangout with friends and grab a beer. They have a great selection of beers on tap(and off). The staff is friendly and even though the restaurant is small, the tight spaces make it more cozy. As for the food, my friends and I split two pizzas: 1. Hawaiin 2. Duck Confit. Honestly, the Duck Confit wasn’t my favorite. It was definitely unique, but I felt that it was a little dry and a bit bland. However, the Hawaiin made up for it in leaps and bounds. It was so damn good. I don’t even know why. The pizza was extra cheesy, not too oily, juicy from the pineapples, and they seem to use real pork for their bacon because it’s not normal bacon, more like pork belly? Overall, great great great pizza that I absolutely loved.

I normally wouldn’t trek all the way down to Longwood just for beer and pizza, but my roommate was finishing her beer passport here the other night — I definitely didn’t want to miss that! I came here a week before Halloween, and the entire bar/restaurant was decorated, spooky-themed. It’s quite spacious I have to say, besides the bar, there are lots of tables to accommodate small or large parties. Since the place is called called Penguin Pizza, I had to order some pizza. They have a very creative menu with a variety of pizza, but this is only available if you order a whole pie. If you order by slices, the options are much more limited. I only had one slice of classic pepperoni but it was enough. It was huge! It was thin crusted, which is my favorite. It was pretty good but not anything out of this world. I sprinkled some chili pepper and Parmesan on top. With pizza in one hand and a beer in the other, I was a happy girl! I came in a large party. The waitstaff happily accommodated us. Our waiter was friendly, attentive, and patiently took our orders one by one. Food and drinks were brought out rather quickly. Service was overall excellent! The highlight of Penguin is definitely their selection beers. They have over 300 beers! You can get a beer passport here. Once you have tried every single beer here, you get your own beer mug with writing of your choice! The mug is tagged by a number and hung on the wall. Beer lovers — this is your heaven on earth. Set a goal to get your own mug. All the regulars have one!
