Mop Hair Salon

I will preface this by saying that I’m usually fairly particular about my hair stylists due to some bad experiences in my past. I’ve been to Nicole at Mop twice now and have been thoroughly impressed both times. The cut and color is absolutely perfect.

I absolutely love this hair salon! The staff is so friendly and they do amazing work! Cory highlights my hair beautifully. He makes it look so natural. I recently moved out of Boston and continue to get my hair colored by him anytime I visit. It’s impossible to find a salon as good as mop!

I’ve had the pleasure of having my hair cut (Deva) by both Corey and Nicole. Both are fantastic stylists and I have enjoyed each experience there. Nicole is a wizard with color and I can honestly say, I’ve never loved my hair more. I get so many compliments and give all the credit to Mop. During my last cut/​color with Nicole, she listened to everything I articulated when I explained my hair texture (3b curls with some curl patterns being different) and my day-​to-​day routine (air dry), and the fact I only get my hair cut 2x per year. She worked with that and gave me a few tips on styling and products. Everyone at the salon has a GREAT sense of humor, which I really enjoy. After several mediocre experiences at other locations in the South End and Somerville, I’m glad I found a salon that takes customer service and professionalism seriously. Again, very happy to have found Mop!

Loved my experience. The place is super cute and everyone was very helpful and friendly. Loved the waiting area and the refreshments and dark chocolate. Better than all that, of course, was my haircut. I am so happy every time I look in the mirror. I can’t remember the last time I was this happy about a cut or felt more confident. I got a deva cut with Kelly. She was really good at helping me think through what I wanted and made very helpful suggestions. She had good attention to detail and answered all my questions. I was growing my hair out to donate, so I had more than 10 inches cut off and overall made a drastic change in appearance. Kelly did a fantastic job. I couldn’t be happier with my results! I love Nicole, I followed her as a client from two previous salons. I no longer live in Boston but I went to Nicole for about 4 years and I truly miss how great she was with my hair. I have curly, mixed-​girl hair that many stylists just don’t know what to do with it. Nicole is an expert at cutting curly hair and helping to make sure it grows and is healthy. I trusted her with dying my hair blonde after it turned out very brassy looking from another salon and she did a phenomenal job, she touched up my hair for the next few years and it always looked amazing. One time it looked a little different and I wasn’t as happy and she moved around her appointments and fixed it for me free of charge. On several occasions she stayed late hours or moved around her schedule to accommodate me when I needed last minute styling for an event or vacation. A trip to her salon was always a relaxing and enjoyable experience, something I always looked forward to. One time I made the awful mistake of going to another salon with a discount code and came to her with a bad dye job, she fixed it and helped get my hair back to it’s usual healthy and shiny state. She gets my highest recommendation, especially if you have curly hair. She also did an amazing job with my friend who has very thick curly hair that is hard to manage and straighten. She is patient, gives great customer service and very knowledgeable. The salon space is also adorable.

New to Boston from NY. After researching & finding Mop online I was anxious to make my first appointment. I do keep my hair in a short style so having a salon & stylist in my area is very important to me.
I called Mop to make an appt got an answering machine left a message and unfortunately never got a return call. I guess they r too busy to return calls. Needless to say, I won’t b trying Mop
So my rating is based on this.

I had the same experience as Alisha.
This is the most uppity & overpriced hair salon you could go to. If you want attitude from the people who work there & to be unhappy with your hair then go here. I got highlights, which they called a «balyage» & they charged me $ 240. When I came in to lighten the rest of my hair & they tried charging me $ 170 for a job they didn’t finish in the first place.
When I asked how much the second service would be the stylist (Kelly) asked the owner how much I paid last time & I overheard the owner tell her «it was expensive,» more than they’re usual pricing.
Would you pay $ 240 for single process color highlights?!
They’re unclear in what they’re doing to your hair & they’re unclear in their prices. They don’t care what you want, as long as they can draw out the process so you keep coming in & paying more.

I decided to go to mop because of the great reviews on Unilocal.I am not sure why my experience was so different. I had my hair died single process and the results are pretty terrible. Its much darker than I expected but I could live with that as you need to iterate with a new stylist to get the color you want. But what is not acceptable is that the roots are literally a shade darker than the rest of my hair and it looks cheap and trashy and not natural at all.
Anyway, I wont be going back. This is one of the hardest parts about moving to a new city!

I came in about a year or so ago after reading a few good Unilocal reviews, and it didn’t disappoint. I initially saw Corey who was wonderful — did a really nice job with the color of my highlights. The next time I went, I saw Nicole because Corey was booked up (they’re always booked there) and she did a fantastic job on the color as well. It’s a small operation, but they’re all super comfortable with each other and great stylists who know what will work with your hair. I’d highly recommend — and book early because spots go fast!

I just had the best hair cut with Derek in my entire life! He’s knows how to cut curly hair… He’s thoughtful and takes his time! I felt very welcomed and didn’t feel like I was in a snobby hair salon with rude service. This place is down to earth and really friendly! My Deva cut and color is absolutely perfect in every way. Popped in over my lunch break for a haircut with Kelly — she was fantastic! She was sweet, funny, welcoming and I adore my new style.

My story is probably familiar: I had a dear stylist where I used to live, he knew my hair better than I did… and then I moved and struggled to find a stylist in Boston who would again understand my curly, temperamental, and slightly over-​processed hair without charging me an arm and a leg.
Enter MOP and Nicole. She is awesome. Down-​to-​earth, straight-​forward, and an artist with the color. She knows how to cut curls (just get a load of hers!) and I couldn’t be happier.
After going much blonder with Nicole a couple months ago, my hair started getting very brassy despite my various best efforts – and probably because of them, I later learned. I called up Nicole, discussed the problem, and she fit me in on a Saturday morning. She taught me how to hopefully avoid the brassiness in the future, toned and deep conditioned my hair, and sent me off more knowledgeable and totally happy.
You can’t go wrong with MOP.

Kelly did a fabulous job on my deva cut, I came in with pictures and she gave me exactly what I asked for. I had a bad deva cut experience at Anita Kurl so I was a little anxious, but she walked me through everything she was doing and made suggestions which I ended up loving. She’s also super funny and friendly! If you are going to get a deva cut, I definitely recommend trying to get booked with her

This is my third or fourth time coming here and I’ve always been very happy with the service! I don’t tend to ask for anything specific and just express what I want my hair to feel like, and Kelly always does a great job fulfilling it. As an aside, I’ve been sending my boyfriend here too (he saw Errin last) and he knows even less about hair, and he always coming back looking handsome. Love this place so much.

I love this place. I love the folks that work here. I’ve only been to Cory and Derrik and they are both fantastic. If I’m out of town, I’ll wait weeks, no — months to go only here. I can’t believe what a good price too. And the banter is hilarious! This place is a sure bet with any of the hair dressers.

Cory is amazing! LOVE my new haircut & the blowout looked incredible and lasted a few days. I will 100% be returning every month for a trim & blowout! He works very quickly & efficiently & gives you amazing results :)

I decided to go to Mop because of the great Unilocal reviews. My husband helped me cut a 13 inch long ponytail last week that I donated and I wanted to give a bit of shape to my newly short hair. I had an appointment with Cory and I must say he was just the best! I had never especially liked any stylist/​hairdresser before, but I think I might finally «settle down» now tat I met him! He started by taking a long time to ask me what I wanted exactly and then proceeded to execute it in the most perfect way! I love my new haircut: it’s a better, more fashionable version of what I had envisioned.
The haircut was just $ 65 which I think was a really good price for the quality of the service. I had terrible haircuts before for a lot more than that!
Finally, Cory was a lot of fun to talk to, he had lots of great stories to tell and I just had a really good time! I will be back!

reviews and I couldn’t be happier!
I see Kelly but I can confidently say that everyone there is super knowledgeable, nice and most importantly to me, honest. If you walk in with a picture of a cut that you love but aren’t sure will suit you, (as I have) they’ll not tell you flat out that you’ll end up looking like the cookie monsters long lost cousin… but they will suggest something that might suit you better that remains in the same vein as what you’re after. To me, that makes all the difference.
Strongly recommended!

Found this pretty salon on Unilocal (thanks, as usual) and went over to get a blowout while in Boston.
You step down into a bright and airy, modern open space that’s very welcoming. Greeted by a friendly woman as I walked in. I was a little early so I waited on their comfortable couch in the seating area and had a complimentary Diet Coke. Nice touch!
I was there to see Corey. You absolutely notice him as soon as you walk in. Tall, well dressed and very expressive! I knew he’d be a lot of fun just listening to him talk. And he was!
He sat me down and asked about my hair then we proceeded to wash it. I’m not sure what products they use for hair, but they are phenomenal. My hair is so shiny and silky and beautiful today!
I suppose the four stars is because I really, really like my hair a certain way. And, Corey, when I told him what I wanted was totally willing to do it. I just couldn’t seem to convey what I needed I guess because I’m not that happy with the style. I don’t think it was him, I think I am just so used to my stylist at home doing it that I’ve forgotten how to verbalize what I need!
I really like being asked how I want it done, where my part is, etc., and while Corey didn’t do that, when I mentioned it he was very accommodating. I really have a hard time saying anything bad at all about the salon because it was just such a great experience with such great people, but I really probably should have said more. I really don’t like my hair today. But, it’s okay, because Corey makes just going into this place well worth it!
