1st impression — Wow, $ 9.95(+tax) for a buffalo chicken wrap. This place has a «Fair trade certified» sticker on their door which typically guarantees you’re about to get ripped off. Issue #2 — Twice I specified no tomatoes while ordering, and sure enough my wrap was stocked full of tomatoes(not a big deal, it happens) Issue #3 — The chicken in this wrap is the most disgusting rubbery chicken I’ve ever had. I could only eat a few bites before tossing it in the trash, and I’m someone who lives for buffalo chicken. Never again. 0 stars and this is the first negative review I’ve written, I’m not a nit-picker

We catered for our office. Did eggs, bacon, potatoes, and bagels. They did an amazing job! Everything was very good and well worth the money! Highly recommend them.

Went here for lunch on recommendation of office manager today. Their«New York» big-boys or whatever they call them, HA!!! If you made someone a sandwich like that in NYC you’d be crucified. On top of that, it was OVER $ 12. Go to Al’s around the corner. A LARGE sub there is only $ 9 and it’s three times the size.

I go to Max for breakfast every day of the week, for fast, friendly service, quality food and at a reasonable price. I think they excel in doing things in a simple way that is focused on the customer. The staff behind the counter provide great service with a smile on a consistent basis. I haven’t tried their lunch offerings but am so happy with the breakfast choices they provide.

I have ordered from Max’s several times for my company luncheons/meetings and they are awesome! The service is great and the food is just as good. The food portions are big unlike the sandwiches we get from other places around the down town area. Max’s is the only place where my whole office agrees(that never happens!!) that the food is delicious. That alone says a lot and because of it they will always have a loyal customer in me.

I have now ordered from here several times, both for breakfast and lunch. I have picked up and used their delivery service. Online ordering is easy, though if you are doing a large order for delivery and want to use a credit card, you need to be patient and wait for the staff to call you as they don’t take credit cards online. Don’t worry, they call. Everything I’ve had from Max’s has been great. They have a nice assortment of bagels, pastries, eggs, and other yummy breakfast foods. Their sandwiches are delicious and generous in portion. I, admittedly, will sometimes actually take extra meat off my sandwich… there’s just so much. I love that they carefully package up pickles and tomatoes on the side for catering orders so the sandwiches don’t get soggy. I also really like the staff, especially the lady that usually runs the cash register. She has a lot of patience with the rest of the staff and always reserves kind words for the folks she’s cashing out. Definitely a great breakfast and lunch spot and highly recommend for corporate catering as well!

Ordered food for 6 people for a meeting, sandwiches, not difficult. Needed in 30 minutes. Michael, who says he is the owner, assured us it would be delivered. After one hour a woman, Melissa, who also says she is the owner, answered said the food was in route and downstairs in the building for delivery. That was not true. 105 minutes later, no food, Michael doesnt know where the driver is, claims he keeps calling him, and continually has been hanging up on the person asking. Seems as if they put the food in a cab and sent it-ok, thats a new one. The food was delivered in 107 minutes from calling in a rush order for six sandwiches. In 25 years of business, never have I experienced the unprofessionalism and run around of this establishment. The food was blah after all of this.

I come here once or twice a week since it’s across the street from my building, usually for breakfast. The good: food is good, full breakfast menu, made to order, including omelettes, eggs, bagels, pancakes. Try the BLT, it’s really good. Good sized portions. Location is very convenient right in the middle of the financial district. HIGHLIGHT: I’m doing a low carb diet and this is the only place around here where I can have ham and eggs or an omelette for breakfast. The bad: food can be a bit greasy, but not unlike any other diner. Also, they have plenty of options if you’re on a diet :-) eat some lettuce! The ugly: don’t expect great service. Cooks and servers are always nice and friendly but lady at the cash register is always grumpy. Today I returned a cheese omelette that had NO cheese, and the explanation I got from this lady was that the cheese was there but I just couldn’t see it. I swear that’s what she said O_o My eyesight is not THAT bad believe me there was no cheese in that omelette. Next time I’ll order ham and eggs instead of an omelette with invisible cheese :-) I plan to keep coming here what can I say, nothing’s perfect and it really is one of the best options for breakfast around here. I must add that I did get a coupon from the owner who apologized. I’m still giving them four stars even though they really pissed me off today(sigh)

Gotta say Max’s is AMAZING! We use them consistently at work for catering meetings and they always deliver without fail. The food is fabulous and they are such professionals to work with! I had a week-long training session and wanted menu variation for each day, but didn’t really have the time to go through their extensive catering menu. They offered to put the menu together for me and send it over for approval. It was perfect and they executed flawlessly. They chose great foods and everyone looks forward to the meals! So far, we’ve tried the following: Breakfast: Finagle a Bagel Bagels, scones, My Grandma’s original coffee cakes, pecan rolls, cinnamon raisin rolls, fresh baked muffins, croissants, Heckler and cheese swirls, Priscilla’s Quiche Lorraine, fruit platter, fruit bowl, egg sandwiches on english muffin with bacon/sausage/ham, Cheese Blintzes with Blueberry Compote, Personal Size Cheese Omelet, Buttermilk Pancakes, home fries Verdict — All was great, but my favorites are: BEST coffee cake I’ve had! Great quiche! Excellent cheese blintzes! Lunch: Hot Sandwiches(Meatball, Eggplant Parmesan, Pulled Chicken, Pulled Pork, Chicken Parmesan, Meatloaf), cold sandwiches(Marinated Grilled Chicken, Jumbo BLT, Honey Ham, Smoked Turkey, Chicken Caesar Wrap, White Meat Chicken Salad, White Chunky Tuna, Salmon Salad), Roasted Potato Salad w/garlic, caramelized onions, roasted red peppers, Pasta Bow Ties w/spicy olive oil, caramelized onions & broccoli florets, Teriyaki Steak Tips, Herb Stuff Chicken w/Marsala & Mushrooms, Roast Turkey w/Stuffing & Cranberry, Garlic Mashed Potato, Rice Pilaf, Grilled Asparagus w/Hollandaise, Grilled veggie platter, Sliced Sirloin Steak, Long Grain Wild Rice, Grilled Chicken Breast, Cajun Shrimp Skewers Verdict — All was great again, but my favorites are the pulled pork sandwich,(which is amazing!), teriyaki steak tips, roast turk with stuffing, grilled veggie platter, sliced sirloin steak, wild rice Overall, highly suggest you give these guys a try if you’re looking for an awesome catering place with a fabulous selection and delivery that’s always on time if not early! You will not be disappointed.

For breakfast: Order your cream cheese on the side or else you’ll find a bagel swimming in globs of the stuff. For lunch: I was very confused by the inconsistency of delivery. I got my salad in a separate cup on one occasion with a delicious piece of sourdough bread that was too small. On another occasion, I got my salad half mixed into my rice plate with no bread. For dessert: the cookies here are big, but tough. They don’t have a soft middle as all cookies should. For service: the staff here are rough around the edges, but friendly.

Max’s is one of THE best lunch spots in Boston. The great thing about working in the financial district is the access to some great casual lunch spots and Max’s is in the discussion as one of the go-to places for lunch. Forget the whining in some other reviews about the place being small. It’s a lunch spot in Boston. Get a grip, you are not going to get a cavernous spot for a niche restaurant. But they kick ass in what they do, great sandwiches and lunch items. If you order any one of the following 5 menu item, you will become hooked: — pulled pork sandwich — chicken Cesar salad — gumbo — BLT(believe it or not. huge and tons of bacon) — ask about the eggplant parm with cold cuts. Awesome but you will need a nap afterward.

Here is an update. It’s a little over 3 years later. They have definitely become my goto breakfast spot. Still not perfect but a heck of a lot better 3 years ago. Great sandwiches(though a little on the expensive side ~$ 10 for just a turkey club on two slices of bread with nothing, not even a bag of chips). Breakfast is good. I love their French Toast which I think they give too much(but I’m not complaining). Bacon is typically good and so are the home fries. I still wish the eggs were scrambled up instead of folded but they are cooked better. Definitely an improvement.

Agree with review regarding surly servers. Food is good, not great, nor cheap. I have had some items multiple times, and was charged a different price each time! Place is never clean. Despite homemade corned beef, the place is in a downward slide. A shame.

My new go-to lunch spot when I’m working in Boston. Great thanksgiving sandwich. They have other sandwiches, soup, and the like. Even though this place seems pretty popular with the Financial District crowd, it never seems too packed and the line moves efficiently. The food is good.

Never eaten the food here, just have gone in to get their fresh fruit plate in the refrigerated case. It’s expensive at $ 4.50, but you get a generous amount of honey dew and cantaloupe. There are also a few strawberry slices, pineapple chunks and grapes. Some of the staff can be rude sometimes. Many times when I am waiting in line to pay, someone will walk/bump into me and not even say«excuse me, «or «i’m sorry.» Yes, I know it’s close quarters, but have some manners to your customers!

I got the turkey dinner. It was pretty good. The mashed potato were real. The corn was canned. The gravy was tasty. Stove top stuffing, but it tasted good. it was $ 10, not cheap though. I opted to eat in the restaurant. It was HOTTER than Hades in there. The owner and everyone else was sitting around sweating. I really think he should have broken down and turned it on for the clients, never mind his poor help.

Max’s Deli is an absolute classic. I hope to experience almost everything on the menu. Thus far, I can recommend the deli sandwiches, the reuben, the steak and cheese, and the pulled pork ceaser salad — all fantastic. The buffalo chicken sandwich is also very good.

I went into Max’s to try their famous BBQ Pulled Pork. It was a good sandwich, definitely not the traditional southern style though. I’ve definitely have had better pulled pork but the customer service here was excellent. There was a nice woman who worked there walking to all the tables asking everyone how their food was. This is practically unheard of in a busy financial district sandwich shop.

The four stars are mainly for their sweet potato fries, which were maybe $ 3.50 for a large boxful — those open topped boxes that fried clams are sometimes served in. They were light and crisp with natural sweet potato sweetness, and fried to order! In fact, that turned out to be the order item that made us wait, hungrily, within hearing distance of the cashier. Their Thursday special — Max & Cheese(nope, not a typo) — was served with your choice of green salad or Caesar. The romaine arrived nicely coated and crisp, but the shells were hardly warmer than room temperature and a bit above al dente. It wasn’t the creamy sort of mac & cheese(ie. Panera), but it was tasty, and the portion was generous for one diner. Too bad though that it wasn’t kept hot, or heated up for us. The side of garlic mashed($ 1.95?) was creamy with garlic and natural potato flavor, but not much else. That was an okay rendition. When we asked for honey mustard, we received a generous little tub of honey dijon. Ketchup was available on the table in a squeeze bottle along with«Chinese Ketchup», napkins, and salt. We were there for lunch after 1pm, and the place was nonstop take-out the whole time we dined. Their bags of sandwich breads sitting on top of the counter looked enticing — especially what looked to be asiago ciabatta and the heavily flecked onion rolls… While I waited, I noticed that Max’s advertised that they are there for your last minute catering needs. Just FYI. 4⁄2011 — $ 3.95 for the sweet potato fries. Yum! 7⁄2011 — still $ 3.95 for the crisp sweet potato fries, but this time the open box was fillled to overflowing. Nice! (4 stars) 8⁄2012 — the sweet potato fries(still $ 3.95) were rather limp yet meaty today. I prefer the crispy sort, unfortunately. But the Thursday special is now a shrimp scampi pasta which turned out to be al dente linguini with perhaps 10 good sized solid shrimp all covered with buttery olive oil and garlic. It came with a bowl of caesar salad, well dressed, and a nice slice of bread which I will save for later. They seem rather proud of the special — one of their staff ladies, a brunette, came by twice to ask how we liked it. There was a chill to the air conditioned air on this rather cool summer day. Wish I had thought to bring a jacket. 8⁄2012 still — the Max & Cheese special was too peppery and not what I normally think of when I think of mac & cheese. The pasta shells were fine, but the breadcrumb thickened mush wasn’t particularly cheesey a concoction. The caesar salad was fine and crisp of leaf. The garlic mashed was decent — I liked it better than the main entrée this time. (downgraded to 3 stars) 9⁄2012 — the office catered from here. White sheet cake was light and fluffy. Someone else vouched for their egg salad sandwich with bacon. I liked the large chunks of veggies in the healthy sandwich option. They provided a large variety of snack portion bags of chips, which was pretty impressive.
