I started writing this 5 years ago and Unilocal asked me to finish it but it looks finished. So here you go. BTW, I have no idea what kind of place is there now, but it’s probably terrible. I like this place. As far as Fanieul Hall bars go, this one is cheap($ 3.50 mini pitchers/half off apps) and the crowd is cool. The dance floor upstairs isnt the best but downstairs is a great spot to pre-game and meet up with friends. I always have a good time when I go here.

Went here one night for food/drink. I’ve experienced better. Food selection is alright. Drink selection isn’t bad but i’ve tried better places.

So we had a decent night out until the bouncer said«get those homos out» to my friends. Not cool. At this day and age a bouncer should not be homophobic in Boston.

Our food and drinks were really good, but unfortunately bad service can ruin the whole experience. We told our server, after waiting some time, we would like our bill to pay and go as we were on a time budget… She then sat with a table of ladies for the next 20 minutes. We tried to cash out with the bartender but he said he could not do it. She then came over and explained those were her college buddies that she hasn’t seen in 5 years. Really?

I thought about giving them 1 star because the food was really terrible as was the sangria, but the waitress was nice and the place was clean and comfortable. I know they have decent drink deals on some nights, so I’d consider going back for cheap beer but certainly would never eat there again. FYI I had the nachos and my GF had chicken tacos, and both were really bad.

Came here for a second visit yesterday because we were looking for a fun restaurant in the neighborhood around Aquarium at a reasonable price. Our first visit would have been a 3.5 overall. This visit was in the middle of the afternoon(4pm). Our first time at this restaurant was a long time ago — about a year. I remembered them having more Irish/Mexican fusion items like Irish Nachos. Seems like they have eliminated most of those items. Also, they have a huge menu for alcohol, but very little selection for non-alcoholic drinks. We were a table of 4 and had 2 burritos, 1 enchilada and 1 fish tacos. My item(fish tacos) were okay, especially considering the price($ 9). Service was good — our waitress came by and would refresh our drinks, bring us more salsa, ect. Would be a good place to stop in for cheap alcoholic drinks and simple bar food, but I probably won’t come for a full meal again.

After dinner nearby, my friend and I came here late Thursday night. We wanted a place where we could get seats, talk comfortably without being bothered much, and have some good drinks. This fit the bill! We grabbed some stools in the bar and there were about 3 other people there. One of them was a DJ blasting rap music– it was almost too loud to talk at times, and I wish he had turned it down, especially since none of the 5 people there looked like they wanted to listen to it. We managed to talk anyway, though. We ordered the Original«Corona Mariella Rita». AMAZING. The margarita was strong, and the Corona was a suspiciously tasty addition. I would probably be back just to drink more of these. The male bartender was friendly and nice. We ordered another drink, and a female bartender made it for us. I ordered one for me and one for my friend that was going to arrive any second. She told me, «I’ll need to see her ID before I make it», even though there were literally like, 5 people in the bar, and my friend and I were very clearly nowhere near 21 years old. I didn’t understand why she couldn’t just make it, and then look at my friend’s ID before my friend consumed the drink. If that’s the policy, fine, but she was sort of obnoxious about it and then stormed off after saying that. The drink she made was full of sour mix and we couldn’t taste any tequila. We had trouble swallowing it because it was so sour, and we passed it person-to-person over the next 30 minutes to try to finish it. The next time the male bartender was nearby, we ordered from him again– and the drinks were glorious again, and he was actually friendly(what a concept!). The only other annoying thing was that the wait staff all congregated by the side of the bar. The restaurant was empty and there were probably 5 – 10 waitstaff and bartenders. As a group, they seemed somewhat douchey, and it was a bit distracting to have them there staring at us and gossiping about life. Overall, I’d be back again on an off-night to consume more of these fabulous margarita Corona concoctions at the bar. If they turned down the rap music by about 25%, didn’t let the waitstaff congregate at the bar, and only allowed friendly bartenders with a strong pour, this place would be heaven. However, I’m pretty sure, based off of the area and what I saw, that you do NOT want to go near here on weekends, cause it seems like the crowd and waitstaff would get beyond douchey.

As a HUGE fan of your buffalo chicken nachos and your pitches of margaritas, I had the most unpleasant and disappointing experience when I brought co-workers in for a little happy hour action on Monday night. I’ve been here enough to expect lackluster service but the hostess/lone waitress on Monday was abominable! She had zero personality and looked put out to have to walk me and my group to the table with our sticky menus(note there were no patrons in the dining room at that point and about 4 people at the bar which were being attended to by the bartender). After sitting us down, she then disappeared for about 15 minutes to flirt with the bartender and had to be flagged over to take our drink order. We ignored the crappy attitude and began our merrymaking. One of my coworkers had previously declared Jose Mc’s «an absolute dump» but was coerced into accompanying us and seemed to be enjoying her margarita. We were enjoying our drinks and having a good time. until… a rat, the size of a small house cat, began scampering around the dining room. Over the next 15 minutes, the rat went from table to table, while we(and the booth next to us) shrieked and the waitress neglected to appear. My group confronted the waitress, who was sitting at the bar schmoozing with the bartender and relayed the situation. «There is a rat, the size of a cat, running around the dining room and we’d like to settle up, as soon as possible.» The bored waitress and equally attentive bartender stared back at me blankly and replied, in unison, «ok?» Taken aback by their nonchalant response to this MAJOR healthcode violation, I asked them if this was normal and received some halfass response about how it’s been an ongoing problem but it had been«dealt with.» It clearly had not as several other vermin(small mice) crept out of various booths in between this exchange and my group getting the heck out of there. Listen, I get that rats are the dirty little secret that probably more restaurants than I care to imagine, deal with on a somewhat ongoing basis. I get that restaurants don’t exactly book their a team to work Monday night happy hour shifts. But the combination of aloof, bitchy, not my problem there’s a ginormous rat in my restaurant, type of attitude and the fact that there is actually a RAT in the dining room, really rubbed me the wrong way. I think our happy hour days at Jose Mc’s have come to an end.

Okay… I have been having a craving for tacos(and chips and salsa) recently and thought hey… this is right around the corner from my job so this will be great! Boy was I unpleasantly surprised! First I walk in and it is really nice in there and a bunch of people are sitting at the bar and the bartender doesn’t even say«hello» or «welcome to Jose McIntyre’s how may I help you». I just got a rough…“are you stephenie?” I tell her yes and she hands me my receipt and I pay the bill. She hands me my stuff and doesn’t even say thank you have a nice day or anything. SERIOUSLY??? This lady needs some etiquitte classes and STAT! Do they even train any type of customer service to the staff there??? *Deducts 1 star* So I leave and I’m walking back to my office and I’m sooooo excited that I’m going to have the crunchy taco that I’ve been waiting for! YES!!! Get to my office and you get three pretty small tacos which that’s okay. A side of rice that is laughable… I’m gonna post a picture of it. They should have just left out the rice because if you can’t provide at least a half of cup of rice with this meal then don’t even tease people. And on top of that the rice wasn’t even that great because even I couldn’t even eat it. Then the ground beef in the taco was not even seasoned??? WOWREALLY??? They couldn’t have gone to Stop & Shop and bought a couple of packages of taco seasoning to go in there? I was really disappointed and couldn’t even stomach eating all three of the tacos. *Deducts 3 stars(one for each taco)* Now the chips and salsa are pretty good and that is what saved this review because if I could have given this place a zero… I would have. So that’s why my rating is one star. I will only go here for chips and salsa if I want it bad enough… but I don’t see myself going here anytime in the near future. Well… maybe if someone paid me to then I might consider it.

Jose Mac’s is a run of the mill Faneuil Hall bar that is on the cheaper side of the spectrum. On the bright side they have personal pitchers are pretty clutch and very inexpensive however they only have a few of them so it is a constant struggle to find empty ones to use. If you happen to find an empty one make sure to grab it with a tight kung-foo grip and never let go… EVER. I would say leave this place as your last option to Faneuil Hall as you can find many better bars in the area. Downstairs is a good place to chill but upstairs is a sweatbox of iffy-21 year olds from the suburbs that are absolutely not worth your while.

I’m so not a fan. The crowd is the young, college type(no surprise, given the location). Lots of drunk dancing and spilled drinks. Usually very crowded. The typical $ 5 cover is usually in play, and this place is not worth any type of cover. One time, someone I was with ordered food, but I didn’t try it, so I can’t speak to that. Drinks are actually decent — mine was strong, so that was appreciate. But I say skip.

So before I ever knew I was coming to Boston, I wanted to come here, since this joint was named after Joey McIntyre(80’s kids — you hear me?). We stopped in for a shot of tequila($ 10 a pop!!! — holy shit), a beer and to watch some Olympics coverage; no food though. Typical bar — nothing special.

This is exactly the kind of place I love. It is one of those place you love to get intoxicated at and hang out with young college girls. The type of place where the girl you talking to at the bar is related to the old man next her and the bartender. «People making out, d-bags everywhere, girls wearing things that are clearly too small for them.» It does smells like pee, puke and cheap purfume. It is like a high school party, but everyone is 5 years older. Upstairs is full of tension which usually ends up with a bunch of people grinding on each other or fights. You have to love Jose Mac’s for what it is and what it doesn’t pretend to be.

Stop 10 of 12 on a pub crawl. Memory is fuzzy. $ 2.50 pitchers of beer. Have I died and gone to heaven? Ordered a delucious Durango Burger with BBQ sauce, cheddar cheese and sautéed onions. Very satisfying.

Many great college memories were made here… my BFF from England spinning around one of my American BFFs on the dance floor ’til she puked, grinding up against random dudes, getting busted in the boys toilets(that actually happened only a month ago). I LOVED Jose Macs when I was in college. I also loved Jose Macs last night when some frat boys started hitting on me because they thought I was still in college(I’ve been out for 10 years). In short, Jose Macs is a great night out for college kids, and for those who want to pretend they’re still in college(i.e. me). Cheap drinks, loud music, and lots of people to thrust up against on the dancefloor. What more could a bright eyed bushy tailed 21 year old want? If you want to have a conversation, this probably isn’t the place to spend your Friday or Saturday night. But if you want to get tipsy, dance, and make out with a stranger, you’ve found your spiritual home.

Pros: Cheap food, cheap beer, decent location, decent service. Cons: Average food, small beer selection, and weird«ambiance». If a college sports bar, Mexican restaurant, and dance club had a baby, it would be this place. The«bouncers» can be a bit weird as well. I’m always up for going here for a few pre-party beers, but it’s never my final destination.

I’m THAT girl, in the nice dress, awkwardly holding a crappy beer, wondering… why did I end up here? Who talked me into this? There is a very good reason why it took me 3 years of living in Boston to even begin to go out of Faneuil Hall Area. I’ve so far been twice, and each time I leave wondering why I even tried. Why! Oh Why! Oh Why! Basically, if you can look past the douche-y guys, the incredibly sticky pee smelling floor and the people making out in the corner, this may be your place. How did a place like Jose’s even win two stars in my book? Well, two things, one, NO cover on a Saturday night.(If they did I would really wonder!) And secondly… Ja Rule«Always On Time» and Snoop Dogg«Gin and Juice» circa 2001 – 2002 came on WITH the music videos. Really, WHERE else could you hear those beats? We all went crazy and danced to awesome throwbacks while ignoring our horrible environment. Maybe you should try and dance with your eyes closed.

It’s alright. It’s OK. The best part about the place is when you come here with good friends. But then again, anything is good as long as you’re with good friends. Definitely not a place I would automatically suggest.

*3.5 Stars* Jose’s is always a fun time. it is very similar to their sister locations(Purple Shamrock. Hurricane O’Reilly’s) in terms of price, drinks, and menu. I find the crowd here to be a little more trashy but it is still a fun time. Sometimes it gets a little crowded, when this happens they wil cut the flow from the upstairs to downstairs. The staff here is very friendly!

I went here Saturday Night for a friend’s fundraising party. We had the entire left room to ourselves.(My friend also said they were very friendly, easy to book a room with, and there was no deposit necessary). The food was delicious, we had chicken fingers with honey mustard sauce, sweet potato fries, fried jalapenos, nachos, and southwest spring rolls which were the best. There were so many salsas and sour creams to dip it all in. The music started to play a little louder around 9:30. The DJ is upstairs and he doesn’t look quite like a typical DJ, but he is pretty hip and played all the new Top 40 songs. He took request as well. I left early, but I’m sure everything go even more lively. I really like that this place is so spacious, besides the room we had at the farthest left of the building, there was a central room for dining and upstairs there was a side room for the bar and a large dance floor. It might get cramped later on, but this place is great o start the night off.
