I arrived early when the staff was preparing to open. I waited outside for a bit. Loved the atmosphere there, casual yet sophisticated. The lobster and the lamb course was fabulous ! I shared with a friend so the price is very good will visit there again !

Deuxave is one of my favorite restaurants in Boston(definitely in the top 3). And it’s because they consistently offer great service and amazing food. I’ve been there three times and each time has been a wonderful experience. Most recently I ordered the 9 Hour French Onion Soup and a main course of Chicken, Broccoli and Tortellini. Both were delicious especially the main dish where the flavors of the Tortellini stuffed with sausage and the Apple Rosemary Pesto were outstanding. In the past I’ve had a brilliant appetizer of assorted mushrooms — memorable! And(also in a past meal) the New York Strip was excellent, cooked perfectly to my taste. The wines have been consistently wonderful as well. The cocktails are sublime. The one nitpick I would have is that the restaurant doesn’t alter it’s menu all that much. I’ll definitely be back and I’ll look forward to hopefully trying some new dishes.

I had an excellent celebratory dinner here. First of all, the ambiance is gorgeous. I love the high ceilings, large windows, and the modern, glass architecture. We were seated at a table for 2 tucked into an alcove with two large comfortable armchairs for seats, which added to the intimate feel of the dinner. We split the foie gras appetizer for a starter, which was very good. The foie gras was rich and buttery, and came with some greens, Brussels sprouts, and a butternut squash purée. For the entrees, I got the duck, which is one of their signature dishes, and my partner got the steak. Both were excellent, although we both preferred the steak(I’m not a huge fan of lentils and prefer duck leg to duck breast, which may be why I liked the steak better). For dessert, we shared a warm soufflé with sauce Anglais. The soufflé was light and airy and the sauce wonderfully rich and creamy, and was my favorite part of the meal. The meal was pricey, but we both left feeling full and satisfied. I would definitely recommend Deuxave for a special occasion.

Had the best anniversary dinner here! Menu was creative and well prepared. We went with the chef’s menu and it was like unwrapping a gift with every course. Service was supreme. Server dealt with an uncomfortable guest with class and ease and then he and the manager apologized to us even though we were merely amused by it. Wish I was in Boston more often to go back.

PLEASEREAD 10/17/2015 When my friend visited me, I took her here for their«famous» onion soup. It was mediocre at best-there was very little cheese, and the soup was watery. The tartare/carpaccio smelled like bad meat; I didn’t know that something that smells so distasteful can be so flavorless. I didn’t even finish my main entrée, and the server never asked why I couldn’t even finish. We felt so unwelcome and undervalued, esp. when we said we’d pass on the wine(he offered us low-priced wines). Like other reviews, service was terrible, and we left unhappy. To make our night even worse, the valet hit on us while we waited for our Über. Everything about the restaurant was disgusting. 12/31/2015 I decided to give this small restaurant another chance and booked for NYE(all my favorite restaurants were already booked by that time, and Deuxave was offering a NYE menu, which I assumed would be better than their normal-priced entrees). When I told my friend about the incident(that I was hoping service and food will be better), he suggested we go to a restaurant with actual good food. I called the restaurant to make sure that we weren’t wasting food(if food will go to waste if we did not go), so we can cancel, but was told that yes, food was being prepared already. Katie said we should’ve seen a note when we made the reservation(cancellations must be at least 48 hours in advance). I tried to explain that I was only asking because maybe the policy wasn’t enforced as strictly, but she cut me off several times, repeating that I should have seen the note. Was I arguing about the note itself? NO. When she was done lecturing me, I told her that I was asking because in the past, restaurants did not enforce policy unless it was a party of 6+. She condescendingly told me that the restaurant can have different cancellation policies(yes, obviously), and interrupted me AGAIN when I tried telling her I was only explaining myself for the call in the first place. I told her if she didn’t want to listen to me, that is fine. She said OK, and I hung up. Maybe she was going to say«OK… I’m terribly sorry about the noise in the background, I couldn’t hear you, can you please repeat yourself?» But I doubt it. After I hung up, I was so upset that my friend called to make a complaint. He was explaining the incident to the manager/owner, when he told us that the restaurant was loud with staff surrounding him for a meeting, so he would go down to his office. We repeated our story, when he told us that we’ve already«repeated this story five times.» Weren’t we telling him our story again because he had cut us off, telling us that the restaurant is really loud and that he couldn’t hear us clearly? And talk about being a hypocrite — he rudely repeated that we were holding him up for a staff meeting multiple times, at times interrupting us while we spoke. Not once did we remind him that he had repeated himself multiple times too. Yes, we could tell from your impatient tone that you want to get off the phone. And during the many times he told us impatiently that he had his entire staff waiting on him, he said sure, this is important too(felt very belittling). He went on to demand what we wanted. We asked him what the policy is when a customer files a complaint. He said that he’s the owner, so what we do want? He has such a strict cancellation policy, but nothing for customer service? WOW — you’re all about just the $. He claimed that Katie is in a great mood and is very lovely, insinuating that I am not and that I am lying. Throughout our conversation, the owner cut us off, acted impatient with us, and at times, LAUGHED at us. What was so funny about a customer making a complaint? He made us feel very undervalued, continuing to ask what we wanted. I told him that I felt so insulted by Katie that I no longer want to dine there. He said that I’m «turning this around» — using this excuse to not pay the cancellation fee. I reminded him that I called to ask if food was being wasted and that I had intended to go(I never even asked if I could cancel my reservation or said my name, so how does he know?). He said that it’s «corporate policy,» and we intended to come when we made the reservation and there are absolutely no exceptions. Yes, not even if your parents got into a car accident. He said that I must come or pay $ 150. I asked him if terrible customer service leaving a customer feeling insulted cannot be an exception to the policy-he said no, that we’d «only see Katie for 10 seconds.» Why did he demand what we wanted multiple times when he would say«I already apologized»? All he could offer was that the it was loud and that Katie must not have heard what I said. I asked him why she didn’t ask me to repeat myself, at which point he told me again that he has a full staff waiting for him because of us. Then we hung up. I hope you had a great staff meeting. Please I beg everyone not to come here. There are better alternatives.

Came here with two friends for Thanksgiving Day dinner. $ 85 per person, 3 courses. I got the Pave of Duck Confit, Turducken and Pumpkin Cheesecake. My friends also had the Turducken, but opted for the Spiced Heirloom Pumpkin Soup, Milk Chocolate Semifreddo and Apple Galette. Bread and butter was really good, but in hindsight we wished we hadn’t asked for more in the interest of saving stomach room for what was to come later. Pave of Duck Confit //Frisee & Petite Mustard Greens /Roasted Mushrooms /Dates & Meyer Lemon Purée /Smoked Chestnuts & Duo of Cranberry — superb textures from the lightness of the greens to the melt-in-your-mouth foodgasm from the duck. Very well-balanced flavors. This was actually my first time having duck confit, and Deuxave has definitely set the bar really, really high. Spiced Heirloom Pumpkin Soup //Adam & Larry’s Scituate Lobster /Chestnut & Apple Purée /Pancetta — I had a spoonful of that and it was definitely one of the top pumpkin soups I have ever tasted, if not the top. It would’ve been easy to let the pumpkin dominate the whole thing and add the lobster as an afterthought or vice versa, but Deuxave managed to balance both without either overwhelming the other. Pancetta was a sharp kick and the purée mellowed out the strength of the flavours from being too much. Misty Knolls«Turducken» //Turkey Breast /Duck Rilette /Chicken Boudin /Robuchon Potatoes /Hash of Brussels /Turnips & Butternut Squash /Cranberry Sauce /Gravy — OMG. I still can’t get over this. This was a really tough decision for all of us because the other options also seemed really good. We didn’t know what«Turducken» was and had to Google it. Thought it looked pretty gross from other people’s creations, i.e. rare and difficult to pull off, so naturally we all kind of «YOLO”-ed, ordered it and trusted that we would be in good hands at Deuxave. We couldn’t be happier with our decision. We walked into Deuxave expecting small pretentious fancy schmancy sizes and plating, but the portions were very generous and every element on the plate was cooked to perfection. Apparently this was the most popular order that night. Robuchon potatoes — as smooth and buttery and sinful as Robuchon’s. Gravy was smooth and rich, and had a great consistency such that it didn’t melt into one with the very silky potatoes or drown other stuff. Cranberry — we got the jelly version and the chunky version, both good and made me really happy. Veggies — notable brussels sprouts and one of the handful of times I was glad that there were quite a few on the plate. A+ all around. I don’t know how to describe the Turducken exactly except that it was tender but also very substantial. I’ll put a photo up. Desserts — all three were excellent. Deuxave takes care of every detail. We struggled a bit towards the end to finish all of it though and had to eat very slowly. Pumpkin Cheesecake //Pumpkin Butter Stuffed Gingersnap Cookies /Pear Ginger Jam /Pepita Brittle, Ginger Glacé — definitely best pumpkin cheesecake I’ve ever had. Very dense and flavorful. Deuxave does not slack off in covering the gamut of textures conceivable to a single dessert creation. If I’m being nitpicky, I would suggest a bit more of the pear ginger jam to keep things fresher and tangier as the cheesecake was heavier than one would expect it to be. Milk Chocolate Semifreddo //Oreo Crumble /Poached Cranberries & Cranberry Coulis /Satsuma Tangerines /Cranberry Sorbet — prettiest plate out of the three. Cannot speak to this one with as much detail, but my friend who is very obsessed with chocolate was happy with this. Apple Galette //Butterscotch Anglais /Cider Gelee /Brown Butter /Smoked Buttermilk Glacé — the last ingredient was mindblowing! I had one bite of this dessert and was really happy with how bold a move the smoked buttermilk was, and how well it went with the apple. Truffle + fruit jelly at the end. Could barely finish the dessert, but we kind of forced ourselves to eat this. Deuxave was promising till the very end. The truffle was POTENT stuff. Fruit jelly cleanses the palate nicely with its welcome sourness. Service was friendly but not overbearing, my favorite kind. They made a mistake with my friend’s order for the first course, but it was okay and the right thing was served up pretty quickly afterwards. I could not have asked for a better Thanksgiving dinner and thought every penny was well spent here at Deuxave. Although we were all doubled over and my friend and I walked home with immense difficulty, bent over from how ridiculously full we were, we were so so happy to have had this stupid-good food. A+ and beyond.

I had such high hopes for Deuxave but was immediately disappointed upon arrival Sunday night. We had made reservations for our anniversary. When we first entered, our host and server never wished us a happy anniversary and shuffled us to an obscure corner with a row of tiny couples tables away from the main dining space. I was instantly alarmed, as I felt that we may had been discriminated against as a young biracial couple. We were then moved, not so graciously, to the opposite corner of the restaurant still outside the dining space! The new table was a much larger booth style, but at the very front of the restaurant behind the host stand and across from the kitchen/bar area. I was extremely uncomfortable and upset. A manager never came over to apologize or inquire all night. Soon after being reseated, we had a new server who finally wished us a happy anniversary. He was quite nice and asked us about our table. I told him that I didn’t like being in the corner and that this table was fine but that I preferred to sit in the main dining space, which is romantic and gorgeous. He understood and said as soon as a table becomes available he would move us(again). I felt as if we were bothering the wait/host staff. We then decided to go with the $ 125 pp Chef’s Tasting as he kinda sold us on the idea. I will admit that most of the dishes were absolutely delicious with a good balance of intricate flavors. The food made up for most of the evening. After our first couple courses, we were moved to the waiter’s «favorite table in the house» by the fireplace. This table was much warmer, and I was much happier seated in the main dining space, at least I tried to be. The last couple of courses were a little disappointing. The duck itself was cooked perfectly and was delicious but too heavy on the lentils and sauce, which was quite overwhelming and took away from the dish. The desert was kind of a cop out as a simple couple pieces of chocolate and ice-cream. I didn’t really like it at all; I wish the waiter had asked us our preferences when it came to desert. He only asked about our taste preferences as to the other courses. The desert also didn’t come with the customary«Happy Anniversary» signage. At the end of the meal, I was somewhat happy, but quite disappointed, so much so that I have been upset about it all week. I am upset that the manager never came around to check in on us. I don’t even know if there was a manager there. The Executive Chef wasn’t in. No one stood out to me. The Chef’s Tasting was basically comprised of the main a la carte menu, but smaller portions. Had I known this, we would have just ordered a la carte; we were planning on at least 3 appetizers, 2 mains, 1 – 2 sides, and dessert anyway. As it was a special occasion, we didn’t receive any complementary service. They didn’t wish us a «Happy Anniversary» upon arrival and didn’t try to create a nice dessert for us nor write«Happy Anniversary» on our plates. Spending $ 330 just on food alone, I am not happy with the service or value we received. We’ve dined at other fine dining establishments of the same caliber but have not experienced such lackluster quality of service. I really, really want to give Deauxave another chance, but this experience has certainly left a bad taste in my mouth. It is a shame because I was considering hosting my upcoming law school graduation dinner here.

We had chief’s journey(or choice). tasty scallop and fish for the first two courses, but beef was a bit dry, duck was quite asian like but bit heavy for me… service is very good. We are very full after 6 courses(one complimentary from the kitchen). Awesome dessert! very balanced sweet and sour flavor! Cost us above $ 320 for two people including tips. No wine ordered but some tea.

Although the food was good to very good, we had a real problem with the conduct of our server(«John»). We were a party of four comprised of my wife and I and another couple. We were celebrating my wife’s birthday and hoped Deuxave would be a great place to do so. We were wrong. After we were seated, I decided to take charge of the wine list to find a nice bottle of Cabernet. Our server immediately began to interject unwanted and unnecessary comments and advice. «What is your price range? You know, you don’t have to spend like $ 500 or anything crazy like that. We have a lot of expensive wines here but they are all excellent.» Well, I never asked for his help or opinions. And his comments were rude, stupid and unwelcome. How does he know how much I feel comfortable spending or what I can afford? The night did not get any better because our server remained very intrusive and too chatty. «So where after you folks off to after dinner?» Why is this any of his business? I have guests at the table. I’m interested in chatting with them. This is not some diner where you make chit chat with«Flo» the waitress over coffee while deciding whether to order grits for breakfast. Deuxave is supposed to be a somewhat upscale restaurant. I spent $ 350 for dinner. I expected the unobtrusive service that most restaurants in this price range offer. Our server dashed my expectation with his constant chattiness and rude comments. Even when it came to answering my question about how an entrée was prepared, our server was inappropriate and unhelpful. When I asked about how the NY strip steak was prepared and it’s level of tenderness, he replied«Well… we are a French restaurant. the steak, of course it’s tender. it’s what we are known for, so of course it is excellent.» Unbelievable! I will add that no one at the restaurant even acknowledged that our group was celebrating my wife’s bithday(even though I noted this in my Opentable reservation request). Although it is very unlikely we will return to Deuxave, I will be certain to tell all of my friends and professional colleagues about our unfortunate dining experience there. In closing, I actually took the time and reached out to management at Deuxave to let them know about their rude and unprofessional server. The General Manager offered me an apology, but nothing else. He was quick to point out that he runs a «great restaurant.» As long as he is convinced of that, I suppose my opinion as a customer means little or nothing? Note: I am posting this review again because my first post was deleted. I wonder why?

I walked past this place so many times and have always wanted to try it. It looks beautiful on from the outside and once you step through the doors it didn’t disappoint. The food was beautifully presented and we definitely wanted more of every course. The plating was a little off, they were very artistic but left a lot of blank space on the dish which became a sad reminder of how small the app was. However, what lacked in portion was made up in flavor. The apps were my favorite part with the Lobster with Gnocchi but the Foie Gras was great too(which is expected in a French restaurant). The duck was good too but I wasn’t a huge fan of the lentils, it kind of messed with the sweet flavor profile they were going for and there were too many of them. It was a fun experience though, I’d definitely go back!

All I know is that we left much happier than we came. Made a reservation and request online for a more private and quiet table– which Deuxave completely honored. $ 47 New York steak: tender, juicy, and pairs perfectly with almost any drink. $ 38 Duo of tuna: fresh and perfect for someone health conscious(such as myself) as there’s practically no grease nor heavy seasoning. Will totally return for an anniversary dinner/celebration/girls night out. They truly have an array of seatings that help cater to a variety of occasions, ranging from outdoor open air to a very romantic private table. Make your request early!

This place is a gem of a restaurant! I have been in Boston for so long and only recently discovered this restaurant — only because a friend took me there. Very classy and upscale — truly excellent service, and this is true for servers and hosts alike, extremely delicious entrees that are nicely presented, the ones I tried were the Spiced Colorado Lamb Loin — to die for! Also recommend the Tagliatelle Bolognaise — not your average Bolognaise. Try it and you’ll see what I mean. The crisp duck for appetizer was another delicacy that I would eat again — even though I am not a duck lover, this was truly amazing! I have been there twice and going there again in a week.

Went here with a friend to grab a bite to eat on a Wednesday night. The restaurant was pretty packed, but we were seated right away since we had made a reservation on OpenTable. The restaurant really is stunning inside, and is quite unexpected as it is a little off the beaten path. We were seated a table for two that probably had some of the most comfortable chairs I have sat in at a restaurant. To start the meal, I decided to go with the french onion soup. This rendition was decent, but nothing out of the ordinary in my opinion. It did have a lot of onion and cheese in it though, which was great. For my meal, I decided to go with the duo of lamb. I’m usually more into lamb shank or lamb chops, but this dish was very good. The lamb was thinly sliced and came with veggies, rice croquettes, and a rhubarb chutney. The chutney really enhanced the flavors of the whole dish and brought all of the ingredients together. To finish the meal, we decided to go with the vanilla strawberry dessert. It came with fresh strawberries, vanilla infused strawberries, pea-flavored ice cream, granola, and pastry puffs filled with cream. I really enjoyed this dish but did not really get much vanilla flavor in the strawberries. Also, I was not much of a fan of the pea ice cream or granola, and would have been happy leaving those off in favor of more of the other ingredients. Throughout the night, I had a couple of drinks – one of which was basically a spicy margarita and the other that had whiskey and ginger beer – and both were very tasty. The waitress also brought out a sparkling red wine with dessert since we had to wait a little while for our second round of drinks, and that way very good as well. Overall, this restaurant has a great ambiance, the service is of high quality, and the food/drinks are presented well and flavorful. The menu can be a bit pricey, but worthwhile for a nice night out.

Can’t believe this place is able to call themselves a fine dining establishment. First of all, the service is horrible. They refused to sit 5 of us at the table for a party of 7, and so all of us were required to crowd up the small bar area. We decided to order a 400 $ bottle of wine at the bar to not tamper our experience, but after 20 min into our reservation, the host came over to us and told us that we only have an hour and 30 min left before we have to leave the restaurant. This is prior to us sitting down at the table and even being presented a menu. Our waiter also didn’t think that it was necessary to decant the 400 $ bottle of wine and kept spilling it as he pours our glass. If you want an impeccable meal and an impeccable service, make your way a few blocks down to L’espalier. Lauren is also definitely one of the best sommelier in Boston.

Upon entry to the restaurant, the hostess offers to check in coats. The restaurant décor is simple and elegant. Each table has a glass vase with a yellow Chrysanthemum in it and a glass candle holder with a tea light candle in it. The dimmed setting gives off an intimate and romantic vibe. The hostess brought our party to our table, which was near a fireplace. The food was delicious and the service was good. There was barely a wait in between courses. Our server Viktoriya asked us what kind of water we’d like. We ended getting iced water. For drinks, we ordered a ½ bottle of Willakenzie Estate Pinot Gris, a can of Downeast Cider, and a can of Newburyport Plum Island Belgian White. After we ordered, they brought dinner rolls to our table. For appetizers, we shared the«Night Moves» Scituate Lobster with Gnocchi, which consisted of pan seared potato gnocchi, mushrooms, green grapes, curried walnuts, and pearl onions in a tart citrus fricasee and 9 Hour French Onion Soup, which consisted of steaming hot bowl of salty, wine and beef broth with abundant amount of caramelized shredded onions topped with a baguette and melted cheese. It came with a thinly slice toasted bread. The Crispy Skinned Black Bass was served over cannolini beans, smoked ham hocks, charred scallions, braised celery, rouille, and gremolata. The Tagliatelle Bolognaise consisted of housemade tagliatelle pasta topped with a creamy tomato sauce with crumbles of veal, beef, and pancetta. It was garnished with fresh mozzarella and basil. The Spiced Long Island Duck consisted of crispy skinned, not too fat, sliced duck breast served over diced carrots and green lentils and with caramelized prunes and honey glazed baby turnips in brown mustard sauce. The Dover Sole and Laughing Bird Shrimp consisted of a pan seared dover sole served over crunchy cabbage in arugula pesto and meyer lemon aioli and with grilled shrimp, beets, and carrots. The white fish was light and flavorful. For dessert, we shared a Grapefruit Posset, which consisted of thickened creamy pudding topped with grapefruit sorbet, served with pistachio angel food cake, decorated with grapefruit, pistachio, and pomegranate seeds, and drizzled with pomegranate pink pepper syrup. It was light(not heavy) and refreshing. After the evidence of dessert disappeared, the server brought Compliments from the Chefs which consisted of dark chocolate truffles filled with lemon curd and caramels for the table! This dining experience reminded me of a similar experience at The Inn of Little Washington.

Truly fantastic anniversary dinner, both food and service. Our server was kind and knowledgeable as well as professional. Presented the daily special very clearly, and we were tempted if it wasn’t for the $ 99 price tag. maybe next time! We got a bunch of stuff to share. Something to note about the food is, don’t be taken aback by the small portions. They were MORE than enough — really rich quality food. I wouldn’t change anything about any of the plates — Lobster gnocchi — super soft pillowy but yet some texture to it, lobster was perfectly cooked and I loved the grapes and shallots in here, provided great contrast. — Duck confit — was crazy good. The skin was so perfectly crispy I swear I could eat these as chips. The meat itself was melt in your mouth fall off the bone, perfectly juicy and flavorful. I miss it already — 9 hour French Onion Soup — very good some deep onion flavor here, but I prefer it a bit sweeter which I’m not sure is a personal preference or what, but I find that when I use Vidalia onions at home It comes out a bit sweeter. — Trio of Ravioli — I know paying $ 30 for 3 ravioli may seem ridiculous — but you can tell the pasta is home-made, the fillings were each delicious and different and like I said, everything is so rich we seriously had a hard time finishing this! I would definitely recommend Deuxave as a wonderful date night /anniversary dinner.

Excellent meal and service. Was lucky enough to get a booking at the very last minute. Service was excellent and the waitress had a very warm persuasive smile. «9 hour onion soup» was magnificent followed my the Spiced Long Island with lentils and«French Kisses». No this not from the waitress or the ones we got in high school. They were foie gras stuffed baby prunes was should be eaten along with the duck. Finished the meal with«Ants on a log». Not going to mention what it exactly is, but what I can tell you that it will make you reminisce when you were a kid. Must try place, if you are in the neighborhood.

First things first, I arrived at 8PM for a birthday dinner scheduled that was reserved at 8.30PM. Our party was sat at 8.50PM. Not impressed with the service so far… The dining room floor was slippery, makes me wonder if they ever clean it. Silverware were dirty too. Moreover during wine service, our friend who hosted the dinner was not allowed to be served wine because she did not carry a US license when we all showed that we have the same ID from the same country. When I talked to the manager he answered me rudely and dismissed me like I’m not a paying customer. Just words that are not acceptable from a dining room manager of a fine dining establishment. Ok. Let’s talk about the food. I had the wagyu carpaccio, foie gras, pan seared duck breast and the dark chocolate cremeux… The wagyu carpaccio was great, seasoned properly and contrasted well with the potato gaufrettes. The foie gras was also properly balanced with the acidity of the tangerines to cut the fat. The beignets were also good. The pan seared duck breast was seasoned perfectly, lentils were also a good pairing to the dish. The port reduction also adds a nice acidity to the dish. Finally, the chocolate cremeux was good. Overall, the food was great! But the service was so bad that it overshadowed the food. I know its the managers job to tell people they are not able to serve alcohol, however there are ways to say it to a customer that is not rude and offensive and I personally feel like he is just plain rude. Oh! And another thing that made me give this restaurant a 2 star, despite the great food, the plates were dirty and stained. To me this is unacceptable as this is a fine dining restaurant where attention to detail and finnesse is on the top of the customer’s expectation. Final verdict: food is great but service was a nightmare!
