I visited the Blue Mercury store on Newbury for the first time about a year ago and I have never been more in love with a company, its staff and its products before! I have always struggled with acne and have spent years trying different medications and products prescribed by several dermatologists, but nothing seemed to work. The staff at Blue Mercury Newbury initially helped me by picking out skin products that were right for my skin. The staff was very friendly and extremely knowledgeable about different skin types and which of their skin care product lines were appropriate for each type(at all different price ranges I might add!). I fell in love with the entire M-61 line and several SkinCeuticals products and began seeing results towards my skincare goals. I achieved my skincare goal of having perfectly clear skin after I began seeing the esthetician at Blue Mercury Newbury, Alicia McPherson, for regular facials. This woman is AMAZING! Not only did her facials magically clear up my skin(for the record she uses M-61 and SkinCeuticals products during the facial!), but she also taught me about my own skin and suggested things I could do to continue seeing the results I wanted to see. I have never met someone so knowledgeable with skincare(including all those dermatologists I saw) and so willing to go above and beyond the standard facial. Finally I had the skin that I wanted because of Blue Mercury’s products and spa services, but I still didn’t have the right make-up. Racine(Blue Mercury Newbury) is one of the best make-up artists I have had the pleasure of working with and she worked with me to find the make-up products that were right for my skin. She let me try on several different product options and was knowledgeable with each of the different make-up lines. In addition to helping me find the right make-up, Racine took the time to teach me how to properly apply the products and techniques I could use for best results. One of the best perks at Blue Mercury is their willingness to let their customers sample products. Blue Mercury would prefer to see their customers happy with their products, than pressure them into buying something they are unsure of. Having said that, I can assure you that any Blue Mercury samples you may will surely impress you and I can guarantee that you will be back to buy the full product! I have been into a few other Blue Mercury locations, and although they all exceed expectations with their knowledgeable staff and exceptional products lines, Blue Mercury Newbury continues to be my favorite location to return to. There are times I go in for a schedule facial or to purchase a product I am running low on, but many times I pop in just to say hi to the staff and share my sincerest thanks for everything they have helped me achieve with my skin. Blue Mercury is absolutely my go-to neighborhood beauty shop for skincare and make-up and I would highly, highly recommend visiting if you haven’t been before. Marla and Barry Beck know how to successfully run a company and it is evidenced through their stores, their employees, their products and their personal commitment to their customers. I just had the most amazing facial ever with Alicia McPherson. Alicia is a triple threat and worth every penny, not only is she a brow guru, a skin care specialist, her make up is out of this world. In a last minute rush to get my eyebrows done before a friend’s wedding and taking off to the airport, I saw Alicia for a last minute appointment. After seeing Alicia I have never receive so many compliments on my brows! She has done wonders to them! Not only is she very friendly, but she also takes her time waxing and shaping them. She even gave me tips on how to fill them in and properly groom them. I wish I could remember the names of the two other women that helped me out, but for the most part the staff is very knowledgeable about the products they have(They carry more high end stuff like NARS and Laura Mercier). While waiting for my appointment with Alicia, I needed to be matched for a new concealer and a lipstick to go with the dress for my friend’s wedding. Both girls that helped me definitely took their time and matched me for the perfect concealer and lipstick(both NARS). If you want room to breathe and staff that will take their time educating you on their products I say take a visit to Blue Mercury. Sephora gets way too stuffy for me. Thanks Blue Mercury! The staff is great and a special recognition to the esthetician, Alicia. I have very thin/sparse eyebrows so was really hesitant to ever let anyone near them. Alicia spent time shaping them and showing me the right products to fill them in which has truly been life changing. I don’t even work near the area anymore but continue to go out of my way to see her every month. Prices for waxing are reasonable compared to other spas in the area I have been to as well. They have done my makeup a few times too and I always find everyone extremely helpful and knowledgeable about their products. love this place!

I walked out with everything I wanted however the $ 50 serum I bought there ended up making my face more dry… but that’s not their fault. The reason I three star this place is because i needed a liquid face foundation that matched my tones — my face and neck were not matching. The girl helping me when I first came in seemed not entirely sure of herself. But I trusted her. She gave me a face foundation that matched my more pale face. Another worker happened to assist me a bit later and realized what the 1st worker gave me — the foundation should match my neck so they aren’t contrasting. The second worker was much more helpful and very confident in what she was talking about — she even was telling the first girl WHY to pick the foundation she did. My question is, shouldn’t you already know this? Why am I a guinea pig here. I can only imagine if I spent the money on the wrong foundation…(I ended up spending over $ 275 here and most beauty places give you a goody or something… kinda disappointed I only got a couple samples but that’s not the reason I 3 star this place.)

I love love love the girls at Bluemercury. Every time I go into the store they are always so welcoming. A few reasons i really love them is that they actually know what they are talking about! Unlike other beauty stores. Another reason I really love them is that they actually let you look around without being on top of you, but they are always there for assistants if needed! Today i worked with Nina and Felica and they were so helpful! I’m so happy they are right down the street from my work!

I want to write specifically about multiple incredible experiences with my esthetician, Alicia. She is friendly and professional, and incredibly efficient. She is a miracle worker with eyebrows(and I say this as someone with«fuller» brows) and always takes the time to make sure she is using the best wax given the body part/type of skin. Absolutely ask for Alicia next time you need any waxing!

Ended up in here sort of by accident — I was hoping to get my eyebrows done at Benefit, but they said they had too many walk-ins to take me(on a Wednesday evening, grr). Blue Mercury is right next door, so I swung in and they said they could take me in a half an hour. Well, my brows look awesome! I have tricky sparse brows that do not have a lot of natural shape, but the aesthetician showed me how to fake a great arch with a pencil and some tasteful waxing. I cannot believe how different they look, actually framing my face. She talked to me a little about skincare too, testing some gentle products on my face, but she didn’t pressure me into purchasing them at all. Now I’m thinking about returning for microdermabrasion. Either way when I start to lose my brow shape again I will definitely come back!

In a previous life, I did not know what/who was a Sephora, but depended on weekend visits to Blue Mercury(Princeton, NJ) to stay informed of the latest beauty must-haves from likes of Kiehl’s, Dermatologica, Jo Malone, Laura Mercier, and Darphin(love love). Blue Mercury prides itself in boutique-style service and high-end brands. The Newbury store hasn’t been in Boston very long but I hope to stop by more often — as it has not yet drawn the masses of people often elbowing one another at Sephora/Prudential. If you already know your regimen and want to shop in quiet space, away from the college-aged shoppers, I highly recommend Blue Mercury. I knocked down a star because I wanted to test-drive Tocca’s Cleopatra perfume, but there was no tester and the salesgirl was not accommodating with my request — she also gave me the feeling that she didn’t really want me there asking her any questions
