This cool little park is actually broken into 2 parts separated by a road, and boasts some seating, grass, and fountains.

This is quite a bustling place on a pleasant Friday afternoon. I could sit for hour watching all of the dogs play with one another. While this area still seems to be in transition it is flanked by some great eateries and finer dining establishments. It really is a sight to see on a weekend when everyone is just glad to not be working. The people kinda like it too.

I live near enough to this park that I pass by it or through it every day. While it isn’t(as everyone else noted) nearly as sketch as the neighboring Franklin park, there is a group of guys smoking weed in the park on an almost daily basis, and I do take the long way around the park when I’m walking home at night for a reason. I do, however, love to walk through the park between 4 pm and 7 pm(depending on the season) when the dog’s and their owners come out to play. Watching dogs frolic warms the heart, especially dogs in sweaters. Sweaters are a must for the fashionable South End dog. As parks go it could be better, but, as Franklin park shows, it could be a hell of a lot worse.

There’s a very strange phenomenon going on with Blackstone Square and Franklin Square. One is totally sketch, one is not… but they’re DIRECTLYACROSSTHESTREET from one another… why? I can’t figure this out. I’ve lived in the neighborhood for a few years now and I can’t wrap my head around it. In Blackstone you’ll find: dogs, dog owners, kids, parents, reasonably manicured grass and a cute fountain. In Franklin you’ll find: trash, poop(I dare not guess from who or what), scraggly grass, assorted people sleeping, no kids and rarely and dogs. I have no earthy idea why this happens, but Blackstone is a nice little park to let your dog run around and sit for a spell. I would make no such recommendation for Franklin.

Blackstone Square is your pretty typical park. It’s not so huge. It has a gigantic fountain in the center of it. It has some nice trees. What makes Blackstone Square so endlessly cool is that it is the lower South End’s premier spot to take your dog. I don’t have a dog, but, I love them. I was actually called a dog pedophile– I just go to the doggy park to watch and pet doggies. Most people aren’t that nasty to you when you ask to pet their dog– most are happy to oblige– so don’t let one nasty yuppy turn you off. Other fun things to do in Blackstone Square: 1. Play cricket 2. Play bocce 3. Play croquet 4. Surreptitiously drink wine from Dunkin’ Donuts styrofoam cups(stupid open container laws) 5. Have a lovely picnic 6. Watch the homeless folk sleep on the benches 7. Kick a soccer ball around, or toss a softball or two 8. Bring your laptop and bogart somebody’s wireless connection. 9. Buy drugs. Oops. Sorry that’s in Franklin Square right across the street. Although, don’t go through this side of the park late at night by yourself either– unless you want to get shot.
