I’ve been here twice and both times have been amazing! I just went tonight(Wednesday night) at 8PM and it was fairly quiet. Ambience: 10⁄10 This restaurant has a great environment. The restaurant is nice but casual, which is nice for a date. We got seated in a booth and it was nice for couples because we got to sit next to each other. Service: 10⁄10 The waitress was very friendly. The food came fairly quick, not too soon or not too slow. We found nothing wrong with the service at all. Food: 10⁄10 My boyfriend and I shared 3 rolls and two drinks and a dessert. We got the 1338 roll, which is a more fresh roll and has more raw fish so it was a good balance with our other rolls. The lobster tempura roll was delicious. The only thing I hoped for was more lobster meat, it had avocado and asparagus in it. This is definitely a good roll for people who don’t like raw fish. And we got the tiger roll which was delicious. Our two drinks: lychee martini and plum wine was delicious. The plum wine was hands down the best one. Definitely want to get that again. And for dessert we got the green tea fried ice cream. It was good but the batter was a bit soggy. Nothing too impressive about it. Overall this became our new go to sushi spot. The food is delicious and the location is nice. Definitely worth checking it out the sushi is very delicious and great quality.

A great sushi place with a great modern atmosphere. I personally thought the lighting could be just a little bit brighter, as it was kind of dark to see the menu as well as what I was eating. The rolls are amazing, from the sauces, to the flavors, to the decoration of the entire entrée. I never expect anything else when it comes to Japanese restaurants. The eel was flavorful and a little spicy which I like. I hate it when the taste of eel gets a little too fishy. The service was nice, attentive, nothing out of the ordinary.

I have not been here on a Red Sox night, but I have eaten here twice. Once a year ago with 4 girlfriends and then again a few weeks ago for a bachelorette party dinner. Both times I got the Kurobuta Pork Noodle Soup because it is to die for. Food tasted fresh and also the pork is tender and so flavorful with lots of veggies in the soup. The second time I also got some pork dumplings which were equally delicious. As other commenters have said, service is a little slow, but totally worth it for the food — presentation and taste.

Been here a few times but I have to say, I have had better service and food at their sister restaurant, Douzo. Still a great atmosphere and location in Fenway!

I went back to Basho today and decided to venture out of my comfort zone. I usually get the cookie-cutter stuff like Philadelphia or Alaska rolls. This time, I picked a Summer Roll and a crab stick tempura roll. When the food arrived, I was dazzled by the plating. There was a wide palette of bright colors begging to be picked up by chopsticks. The Summer Roll was topped with caviar and was quite tasty. The crab stick was delicious by itself and the roll in which it was wrapped was also delicious. But they just didn’t go together. The crab stick just didn’t look like it should have been sticking out of the roll. I’m a sushi noob, so my tastes might not be all that sophisticated, but I don’t think hot items belong in a traditional roll. Having said that everything tasted fresh and I always enjoy the way the restaurant looks. I’d go back but stick to more traditional options next time.

This is a great place to grab sushi in the Fenway area. As is often the case with Fenway, the venue is a bit pricey and if you’re not one to be full after just one roll you might want to save this dining experience for a nicer night out. The inside is really spacious and the atmosphere is very relaxed. The sushi and sashimi is pretty good although not the best I’ve ever had. Great place to dine before a Sox game or for a nice dinner. Some tips: parking is rough around this area in general so taking the T is probably your best option if you’re coming from far out.

Had a pretty good sushi experience here. Located right on Boylston St in Fenway, Basho is a trendy Japanese restaurant that serves a variety of noodles and sushi(although there are some Korean items on the menu too, like japchae and bulgogi). The ambiance inside is quite nice, and it wasn’t too crowded when we came here for dinner around 6:15pm on a Tuesday night. I ordered the caterpillar roll($ 12), which had eel, cucumber, tobiko and spicy mayo wrapped in avocado and unagi sauce. The sushi was quite fresh and tasted nice, although I had a hard time discerning any eel in the roll. I also thought that the prices on all of their specialty rolls were quite high, so I would recommend coming for lunch instead when they have a lunch special. I have heard good things about their pork belly buns(2 for $ 8), but I didn’t order them this time. Next time I go back I will give them a try!

What a great place with a great atmosphere! Came in on a Monday for lunch and it was pretty busy but the staff handled it well. We ordered 3 apps and then lunch specials. The first app was got was the pan fried gyoza and they were done with in seconds lol(it came with 5 pieces). The second was the softshell crab tempura and this was pretty good but not my favorite just because I didn’t like the shell(personal probably not Basho’s). My family members however loved it and they don’t even like seafood in general so. The last app was the chicken wings. They were perfect but be careful they are pretty spicy. For lunch I got a veggie udon soup made spicy, my sister got chicken teriyaki(it came with miso soup and salad) and my other sister and my mom got the bento special. These came with a roll(there’s like 4 or 5 choices) with a hot meal(like chicken katsu) soup and a salad. The food came out perfect timing on all of it. The apps first with enough time to causally eat and talk without feeling rushed. Overall everyone loved the meal but could barely eat it because we over ordered but we took it all home. The server was AMAZING! I know I’m an annoying person to wait on because I’m so picky but he didn’t even seemed bothered and was super friendly. He refilled our drinks within a timely manner twice and cleared the table to make sure we always had enough room. I’m pretty sure his name was Kevin. The manger came over to make sure everything was okay and was helping the staff out. It seemed like a very well connected place where everyone helped everyone. I will be back next semester for sure!!!

Had a very poor experience last evening Arrived around 7p, right before the Red Sox game was set to begin. My wife and I decided to eat at the bar. The bartender was very attentive and helpful — he took our orders(Bipbimbap and a noodle dish with a chicken-for-a-pork swap). We waited about 15 minutes and the bartender told us that my chicken/pork swap isn’t doable because the dish is premade. First thing — premade? This is not fast food; it was a $ 14 entrée. That’s insane. Second — why did the cook wait 15 minutes to let the bartender know this??? So, I chose the other noodle dish with a request to swap udon for the sweet potato noodles(?). The bartender didn’t think that would work, as he thought the noodles would fall apart in the wok. I was willing to deal. Another 10 minutes later and our food arrived — well, half of it. My wife’s Bipbimbab wasn’t delivered; it was something else — so the bartender had to call back to the kitchen, who thankfully had the Bipbimbap ready. Only problem was that it had been sitting so long that the egg on top had seeped through and wasn’t mixable, which is the key component of Bipbimbap. Thus, another trip back to the kitchen for a 2nd egg… Finally, we finish up(pretty good food, which was nice) and we get the bill. Not only did they not cover ANY of our dishes for the multiple screwups but they tacked on the original entrée I ordered? Really, Pam? The bartender corrected the bill and apologized that he couldn’t take anything off the bill for us as it was management’s decision. He also suggested we not tip, as he recognized it was a very poor experience. We understood it was the manager/kitchen and not him, so we tipped anyway. There are lots of other sushi places in the city — spend your money at any one of those instead.

I went to this with my husband and his friends. The decoration is very nice inside, the booth is also comfortable. The waiter was quite funny. My husband and his roommate was the only two who ordered sashimi and shot, he told them they are the coolest ones of the table. The sashimi plate was beautiful. Everything tastes fresh and yummy.

Came here a little while ago and got the shishito peppers, the crispy shrimp, and a few rolls. And the pear vodka cocktail mix. The food was delicious, and the ginger was probably the freshest I’ve had in Boston. Honestly, there was an absolutely gorgeous waitress that served us, and it was super distracting. I feel like she was so stunning that the food could have been horrible, but it would have tasted scrumptious.

To start, Swish Shabu on Peterborough street is the sushi place you should be going to instead. I had called in to place two separate orders of sushi rolls. When I arrived to pick the order, I noticed that the rolls were all combined in one box. If I call in to place two separate orders, it should be done in TWO separate orders. Then when I asked the stone cold faced hostess for a side of spicy mayo, she said ok, but then proceeded to do other tasks. When I asked her again if I could get the side of sauce, she then mentions to me that it costs an extra $ 2. I tell you, their costumer service is just not there. This is how you lose the loyalty of costumers if you’re unable to accommodate to little things! The look and feel and atmosphere of Basho is fancy, but it’s nothing if their team isn’t trained properly to assist the costumer. And the fish quality is less than average. In comparison to Swish Shabu, the service is fast, fun, friendly, and accommodating.

Supa odoroku bakari !!! My girlfriend took me here yesterday afternoon. We sat at the bar for a few drinks and some sushi. The bartender was absolutely FABULOUS. Very friendly guy who made us some very awesome cocktails. The drinks were superb, the sushi was fresh and delicious. The service was superb. The bartender made some wonderful suggestions for some amazing cocktails, a couple of them his own creation, and they were amazing. Definitely try the pomegranate cucumber martini. I enjoyed a nice Kaluah drink with chocolate, hazlenut and frenjelico(sp)… For sushi we shared a rainbow roll, which was delicious. The place itself is superbly clean with a modern décor style not typical for a Japanese restaurant. We visited during the early afternoon, so it was nice and quiet and other than staff, we had the whole place to our selves, although I’m sure they’re very busy on game days at fenway and at night after neighborhood businesses get off work, etc. Highly recommended.

Pretty good sushi here, especially the sea urchin sushi. In addition, I ordered a as cod my main course, the skin is perfectly fried and crispy and the fish is soft and melt in my mouth right away. The special drink here is Soju Carafes which has different kinds of flavors.(strawberry, pear, lychee, mango and so on) This place is worthy to visit again.

The service is terrible, and the lunch menu totally changed. Way overpriced, and the items i loved are now gone. The bartender says rude, out of line things, trying to be funny but is not at all. The seating in the bar area is ripped and old, it’s shocking since the rest of the space is so modern and pretty. Basho was actually great a while ago. The changes have made it not good. The only old thing that is the same is the bar seating. Chairs themselves, which I said are ripped.

Review of a TAKE-OUT order* Came here with a friend of mine because she had ordered for takeout. I only tried one piece of both of the rolls and I was quite surprised at how tasty it was. She had ordered: + YAKIBALLS(FRIEDOCTOPUSBALLS):(3⁄5) they were pretty small pieces and she only got 4. She said that it was on the saltier side and would have tasted better if she had asked for the dressing on the side. By the time she had got home, the balls were a bit soggy. + VOLCANOROLL has crab stick, tobiko, avocado, cucumber toasted with spicy mayo and unagi sauce. + SHRIMPTEMPURAROLL: basically the same as a volcano roll w/SHRIMP TEMPURA and UNAGi sauce. The amount of rice on the rolls was perfect. I hate when the rolls are 80% rice and 20% ingredients. BASHO has their maki roll making skills on point. BASHO definetly caters to those who prefer ROLLS than sashimi, so if you are craving Americanized sushi rolls BASHO will satisfy your craving. A CON would be that it is on the pricer side, in my opinion(or I might be biased b/c in California, sushi is 100x better and also a lot cheaper), BUT overall the sushi rolls are tasty and I will definetly come back and try out BASHO for myself :)

I come to Basho a lot. I love the outdoor seating during warm weather and the open bar area. I am a big fan of the sister restaurant Douzo. My friend and met here for dinner around 7PM on Friday. It was not too crowded and decided to sit at the bar. The bartender was attentive. We both ginger drinks that were light and delicious. We started with STR(spicy tuna roll), gyoza and a chicken appetizer. The STR and gyoza were delicious. The chicken appetizer tasted super floury. After that, we ordered the chicken udon stir-fry noodles and chicken teriyaki entrée to share. Both are delicious. I was so full that I forgot to grab the delicious mints on my way out

First off let me warn you that if you are eating here on a Red Sox game night, beware of the $ 55EVENTPARKING fees in the neighborhood. Basho will validate your garage ticket and the cost of parking in the garage on Jersey Street, which ends up costing only $ 4.00. What they don’t tell you is that the validation only lasts for 3 hours. So if you do eat there make sure you leave and get your car out of the garage before the 3 hour limit expires or you will be responsible for the full $ 55.00 parking fee! Now that I’ve given you that most important tip… Let’s talk turkey about the sushi. We had some amazing exotic rolls. Tiger Roll: Eel, smoked salmon and cucumber wrapped in torched squid and topped with salmon roe. An explosion of flavor. Dragon Roll: sweet potato wrapped with eel, avocado and drizzled with Unagi sauce. Lobster Tempura Roll: chunks of fried lobster, asparagus and avocado wrapped with soy paper. Snow Mountain Roll: Shrimp tempura with snow crab. Crazy Roll: Shrimp tempura, avocado, cucumber and spicy mayo. Snow Crab Roll: crab, avocado and cucumber wrapped with tuna and salmon topped with mango Volcano Roll: crab stick, tobiko, avocado, cucumber toasted with spicy mayo and unagi sauce. I also added yellowtail sashimi over rice. Three creamy smooth pieces that were super fresh and buttery. Service was a little slow even though the restaurant wasn’t full. Our waitress was friendly and apologized for the delay. I would eat there again but please watch out for the 3 hour parking limit on your ticket validation. Especially on Red Sox game nights!

If you happen to be in the Fenway Area, just go in. There’s no need to debate about it because Basho is the best place around. Ask the managers for anything and you’ll get it right away. Their customer service is worthy of admiration. If you ask for a table, ask for Shaina. If you’re at the bar, ask for Claire. They’ll take care of you and you will come for more. The greatest plates you’ll find include the Torched Salmon Salad and Steamed Buns as appetizers, Crunchy Roll, Ocean Island Roll, Spicy Avalanche and the Special of the Week Roll for signature rolls and chocolate cake for dessert. If you’re on a budget, get the Taro Chips as an apetizer and go straight for a Volcano Roll & a Salmon Tempura Roll. Drinks here are amazing and the Snap Dragon will numb your senses in the best way! I invite you to become obsessed. Cheers!

Basho fasho! I’m actually a huge fan of Basho. In the past week, I actually ate here 3 times, mainly because if you show your Red Sox tickets, you get 15% off the bill! I should mention that my cousin was in town visiting and is a huge Red Sox fan… insane, but we went to three games in 5 days. Anywho, Basho makes a great option, considering the food around Fenway park are mainly bar/greasy food. On a hot summer day, something light and refreshing, like sushi, is perfect. Not to mention, this venue is gorgeous and makes a great date night spot. Definitely come here during lunch if you can. They offer great deals on their lunch specials — not to mention generous portions! The Basho lunch special came with a bunch of fresh sashimi! Their baos are also amazing(highly recommend the pork belly and hamachi), as well as their miso yaki dinner. Their salad is also surprisingly delicious! I love their ginger salad dressing. I wonder if they make it in house. I also had the 1338 roll, which was just okay. I felt I couldn’t really enjoy the fish on there because the crab concoction in the middle is way too overpowering. –1 star for their service… it’s kind of meh. One day we were able to substitute the miso soup with the salad, and another day we couldn’t :(Who wants to drink soup during a 90-degree day? Furthermore, their service can be slooooow. On a Tuesday night, with the restaurant ¾ empty, our food took forever! Also, some of the employees could be friendlier. When you exit, they also have these delicious dream mints! I think they’re coated with a thin layer of chocolate. I definitely will be back :) It’s such a good deal, especially if you’re watching a Red Sox game that day!

Even though everyone talks about how Basho has mediocre SUSHI, I would suggest trying their other items since their name entails they are a brasserie(they have a large variety of items). FOOD Braised pork belly steamed buns(+) Every time I come here, I get this. The order comes in two buns in the cutest bamboo containers. I am always in search of the best pork bun in the city, and I have to say these are better than the one from Ippudo in NY. The bun is so soft that it sticks to the container and melts in your mouth. The pork is tender and falls out of the bun, but it’s because it’s THAT soft — like pillows melting in your mouth. Yellowtail Usuzukuri: Good yellowtail, although I do with it was a little bit fatter. Crispy shrimp: There was mushroom and shrimp covered in a spicy mayo sauce that was really good. However, the cabbage at the bottom didn’t get any sauce at all, and was very dry in comparison to the drenched shrimp and shitake mushroom. DRINKS Lychee tini: It’s not as sweet as you would think. It’s a little tart Ginger margarita: Like a normal margarita. I didn’t really taste the ginger. Sparkling pear(+): My favorite. It was tangy, sparkly, and very strong. SERVICE The waiters were very attentive, and we were approached by the server, bartender for more drinks, and the manager. We were treated like VIP sitting at the table!
