Respect love and fear Men have been going down to the sea for a long, long time and it is just possible that the very first people to the New World came along the coast in small boats from Asia. I’m sure it was very dangerous back then and going out to sea remands dangerous today. With the development of modern navigational aids and weather forecasts fishing might be a whole lot safer now than it was several centuries ago but still can be deadly for anyone that stops respecting the ocean for a moment. Being out of sight of land in a small craft leaves no doubt about how large and powerful the ocean really is. This park is just a small chunk of green right on Boothbay Harbor. Not really much here, a couple of benches to sit and reflect, a flag pole, a small memorial dory and a plaque with the names of lots of dead guys from Boothbay. Men that went down to the sea in ships but never returned. Just a small park that is a place to relax away from the chaos that is the center of Boothbay. To perhaps think and reflect on what it was like to go out to sea before radar, GPS or weather predictions. A small park to wonder about how large, powerful, amazing and very, very dangerous the ocean really is.
