My Parents live in Ames, and every summer we come visit for a few days before heading up to the Family cabin on Big Spirit Lake. A few Sundays ago, Gayle and I went for a drive to Story City(to ride the Carousel) and then onto Boone via various country roads(including a top at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church among the corn fields). After taking a tour of the house where Mamie Eisenhower was born, we stopped at this Boone DQ for a little soft serve. I like my cone plain, while Gayle loves hers dipped in chocolate. The line was slow and the counter person went out of her way to apologize for being short staffed. That was OK, as a few interesting queue discussions helped pass the time. So did sitting at the picnic tables afterwards near the Chamber of Commerce train car on this warm summer day. We sat, relaxed, talked, and happily chased our melting ice cream.

Standard fare for a Dairy Queen. The blizzards were delicious! The chicken strip basket was so-so. The chicken was a little salty for my taste. The fries were fine, but looked a little anemic.
