Sushi was good but the teriyaki dishes were awful. They said grilled but they don’t have a grill and they only bake the food.

Sushi Ray is fantastic! As a frequent«solo» traveler I was nervous to be placed at a busy sushi bar. Little did I know that Ray was in action in front of me! People, this man takes extreme care in every piece of sushi/sashimi he makes. He indulged me as I asked questions and examined what he was doing steps by step. My food was fantastic and experience off the charts! I am not a frequent review writer but feel compelled to tell you Ray’s passion is 37 yrs in the making… worth a stop to experience!

As a New Yorker, I know when I am getting quality food and EVERYTHING in Florida is honestly my favorite. One thing always on my list, is Sushi Ray. Ray is, first of all, very personable and he plays great music– pretty sure he DJs himself on his computer when hes not behind the sushi bar. They have hibachi seating or regular, so take your pick. When you sit down, they give you hot hand towels and cold noodles– UNREAL. I always go for their hibachi fried rice and a spicy tuna roll with edamame for an app. My family gets usually the same and sometimes a seaweed salad mixed in there. I have never had a bad meal here. Can be loud and cold but lighting is good, staff is fine. highly recommend

We arrived on time for our 8 pm reservation for 11 people last night. The miserable and nasty hostess, Jeanne, informed us that the restaurant was running 30 minutes late for all the tables. She was unapologetic and basically sneered at us in disgust. She had our cell phone number with the reservation and did not bother to call us to inform us they were running late. We ended up waiting 40 minutes to sit down. There were young children and grandparents waiting. The food which was cooked in front of us, was inedible. The chicken and steak was chewy, over seasoned and dangerously undercooked. The hibachi tables are located next to the bar where busboys toss garbage and used plates loudly behind the customers. The floor was littered with garbage and bottle caps. The only bright spot was an overworked but friendly waitress named Christy who could not have been nicer.

The food Is what these 2 stars are for because the service was a disaster! 2 friends and I showed up around 9pm, we walked in and said that our other friend will be in shortly at that point the host said we should wait so that he doesn’t have to walk back and forth… Um ok then. We finally sat down and noticed that the restaurant was packed and the waiters were hustling back and forth. As we waited for our water I could over heard the table next to us complaining. Our server came back and got our order and during that time I heard the man at the table next to me(yea, a different table) scream to the server, «l need a knife, that’s all I need and ask that you bring me a knife! Ya you, bring me a knife!» Another guy at the same table asked to speak to the mgr because his food was cold and he had already sent it back once! All the while this is happening our server dropped(literally dropped) our food on the table. We asked for our second refill of water a couple times. Like I said earlier, the food was decent. I ordered the beef tataki(delicious), garlic sautéed calamari, and clear soup. By the time we finished dinner the place had cleared out and at the point they turned the music off and turned the lights on which made us feel so uncomfortable(I guess that was the point). I truly felt like I was in the twilight zone, I will not be returning.
Very disappointed from the moment I arrived, can’t tell you if the sushi or hibachi is good since I did not stay long enough to eat. Although the restaurant was nearly empty they gave me an attitude to sit me down because i did not have a reservation. Then when placing my order I was told that basically my whole party had to order from the hibachi menu to be able to sit there even though two of us wanted sushi instead. The waiter would not budge from this imbecile request which ultimately made me leave. There are plenty of great restaurants in the area so no big loss for me but they lost a customer for ever and a sale for the day.

Sushi Ray is my go to sushi spot in Boca for lunch and dinner. I always look forward to the little bowl of delicious noodles you are given when you sit down. It’s such a nice touch. The sushi is fresh and delicious. My favorite item on the menu and what I order 99% of the time is Ray’s Salad. Who gets a salad at a sushi restaurant you’re thinking. This is no ordinary salad. Ray’s Salad consists of chopped raw tuna on top of a bowl of lettuce, cucumber, edamame, carrots, broccoli, and avocado topped with tempura flakes and an amazing miso dressing. I like to order ½ salmon for a variety. I have Ray’s Salad at least once a week. You must try it! The variety of special sushi rolls is great too. Sushi Ray is a little pricier than I’d like for a local sushi spot, but it’s totally worth it. And Ray and his staff are friendly and will remember your face… and even your Order. You won’t be disappointed with Sushi Ray.

When it comes to sushi, it seems like everyone had their own taste… Sushi Ray offers — in my opinion — the freshest and best tasting Sushi. I have to admit though, I typically order the same dish — The Dynamite Roll — which is unlike any other that I’ve had. The service is not the greatest, but it doesn’t stop me from coming back. If I give a place five stars it means I love it. I know we may not all agree.

This is the ABSOLUTE worst dining experience I have EVER had. The«chef» decided to harass us for beers the whole night and be racist on Americans. I’m sorry is this REALLIFE? He thought someone didn’t speak Spanish or something and couldn’t translate to us. If he’s not fired the restaurant should be shut down. Burnt rice, disgusting shrimp, 3 pieces of chicken for meal and it seemed to be a problem to serve me. He harassed me after I complained about the horrible service and told me to ask for Jamie next time I Come in… Is this mother F$#%@ERSERIOUS???(PROBABLY A FAKENAMEORHE’S JUSTASDUMBASHEACTED) never got food and when we did I wanted to throw up after tasting it. If I could take back the 2 hours I spent there I would. I should have been compensated for WASTING my time!!!

Some of the best cucumber rolls if you are looking to forgo rice. Signature rolls are amazing — Ray’s dream is unique explosion of flavors! Service is always prompt and on point during the lunch time when I usually go with the friends. Fresh and delicious sushi!

For now I have to give Sushi Ray 31⁄2 stars but I would like to give it another shot. I really had mixed feelings about this place. Had I been grading it on sushi alone, it would have gotten a much higher rating. I love that Sushi Ray has a huge variety of creative rolls, so e which I have never seen or tried before. I had the Osaka Roll: spicy dolphin and scallion on the inside with smoked salmon and fish eggs on the outside. This was unusual and absolutely delicious! The smoked salmon was just salty enough so no soy sauce was needed. My other roll was the Ninja Roll: eel and avocado on the inside with yellowtail, fish eggs, and eel sauce on the outside. This roll was also very good although it could have used a bit more fish! For $ 12 each, both of these rolls were on the small side. 10 year old loved the rolls he ordered and they were both huge. The Dynamite Roll($ 14) had imitation crab, cream cheese, avocado, & dynamite on top. He also ordered the Birthday Roll($ 10) with eel, tempura shrimp, avocado, and cream cheese. Both of these rolls were very rich but I did try them and they tasted good! We ordered a few appetizers to share and this is where Sushi Ray really fell short. The Kani Su had no fish eggs and just did not taste right. The Gyoza($ 8) and Shrimp Shumai($ 8) tasted packaged or frozen. I really expected more from a restaurant of this caliber. What we found really annoying though, was my husband’s dish. He ordered Steak & Lobster which cost over $ 40. The food was cold and the portion was very small. Service was polite and fast, although our server got very flustered when we complained about the steak & lobster dish. I think I would give Sushi Ray another chance but for sushi only.

Just finished a business lunch at Sushi Ray’s. I was greeted quickly at the door and I say at their long sushi bar. It’s a very nice restaurant and I’m sure that they get packed at night. I ordered the teriyaki salmon lunch portion with miso soup and ginger salad. The miso soup was okay, not great but had lots of tofu in it. The ginger salad was very nice and refreshing with lots of tomatoes carrots and cucumbers. The ginger dressing was also really nice. The salmon was much bigger than I expected. It was cooked perfectly with a wonderful teriyaki sauce on it. It was also served with carrots that seems freshly cut in a little bit of broccoli. I was very happy with the entrée. On my way out the host told me to have a wonderful day. I left with a smile.

Fantastic food and atmosphere. The staff is very friendly. My favorite roll is the volcano roll. I like how they give you noodles when you sit down. I feel like it’s their version of the bread other restaurants give before the meal.
