Pretty good dinner. Service was great. Very friendly waitress. Steak was a little dry but overall good

Showed up at 8:00pm on a Saturday night. My fiancé and I stood at the front reception desk for about 5 minutes before a member of the staff approached. We were told they were not seating for the remainder of the evening. I took a look around and there were plenty of empty seats not to mention there were several people still dining at this time. Before we drove from our home less then 4 miles away we made sure not to inconvenience the kitchen staff with a late arrival shortly before close. We saw the kitchen stopped serving at 10pm so arrival of 8 Pm should not have been a problem. As a local resident i was extremely displeased with this as a result we left for another restaurant in town willing to adhere to their business hours. I guess they don’t need the money nor are we willing to return.

Was in town visiting PENN state with my son. We wanted to have a nice steak dinner and found this place highly rated on Unilocal,so we checked it out and we were very pleased with the tasty food, friendly staff and overall ambiance. Will definitely eat there again, next time I’m in town visiting my son at PENN state!

Very impressed. Came here with a family of 6 for my sisters graduation dinner. We were seated within 10 minutes of our reservation time, which I find very impressive for such a busy weekend. Our waiter Dan took our orders and answered every question had with excellent recommendations. I had the filet mignon with lobster sauce and it was out of this world. If I ever come back to state college, I will definitely be returning.

Unfortunately we were unable to experience the food, atmosphere, or service. Although there were many empty tables we were told there was a 30 min wait. The hostess said the kitchen was the problem not the number of tables. I understand the kitchen may have been under-staffed for some reason, but at least tell the customer that, offer to seat them, and possibly even give them a free drink or appetizer. The hostess turned away a party of six. As a fellow business owner I can’t imagine the owner of Kelly’s would be happy with employees turning away business.

I’ve never done this before but I feel the need to vent about my dinner/service this evening. We rarely have an opportunity to have a babysitter for an evening & go out & enjoy just the two of us anymore. But with it being my husbands birthday, I made sure to attempt to make the evening extra special. I got us a sitter, I made reservations at Kelly’s Steak & Seafood and even requested they bring a dessert out with a candle upon completion of our dinner. I called twice to confirm! Dinner was delicious as always, which is why that is our chosen celebratory spot. However, upon finishing, our server, Eric, asked if we wanted anything else??! I was in disbelief seriously?!(of course I do, I want dessert with a candle handed to my husband!) I simply responded that I had a note with the host.(Assuming he would check!) A few mins later he comes back & tells me that nobody knows what I’m talking about & maybe I could just tell him. I was embarrassed that his response even went that way & saddened that a simple gesture to solidify our celebration could not be met. I assume maybe he really had no notice of it(& he probably didn’t) so I tipped him 15% even though I was unhappy. And anyone who goes out with me knows I always tip at least 20% or more! On my way out I thought to ask another server to show me my reservation. And of course right there in plain sight is my simple request. I was shocked that my server would not have even checked that to see what request I was referring to. That would be the FIRST place I look if someone told me they made a special request! I wish I could go back & get my tip back because he clearly didn’t have a care in the world to look into it.(Obviously I would never do that) BUT I did request to speak to a manager. After waiting about 10 minutes for her(Laura) to waltz over to me, her response was a very unsympathetic«I’m sorry». I explained how I don’t understand why the reservation book wouldn’t have been the first place one looks at to see a request, and how I was really disappointed because I really wanted the dinner to go as planned. Of course my husband doesn’t want dessert, but the gesture of bringing one out to him anyway, with a candle lit, would have made it extra special. She seemed totally bothered by my taking her time. I asked if there were someone else I should talk to, and if I could have the owners email. She laughed as she wrote it down and as I asked for her name. I told her I felt disrespected & that I wasn’t being rude or disrespectful so she shouldn’t be either. Her comeback was that I clearly didn’t want to talk to her. Lady, I wanted to talk to someone who would understand the significance of it. I was disappointed, we rarely get an evening out together without a wild child and not only was my request not followed, but the server tells me they have no idea what I’m talking about and you laugh at my complaint. You are rude & should not be in management. You should have checked the reservations for the night & prompted your servers to everything they should be aware of. Maybe I shouldn’t be so upset or maybe my expectations were set to high, but I really did just want a perfect evening to celebrate my hubby’s birthday. What a disappointment

Had the Chicken Brie sandwich. It had a lightly breaded chicken portion of good size with Brie cheese & bacon, ya killer bacon. I wish I had taken a picture of it before I sank my fangs into it. If it’s available, make sure you get it.

Never disappointed! Lovely atmosphere but relaxed for families & Kelly’s does well with being attentive. Kid’s menu has awesome selection ~ from Mac n cheese to salmon! Food is outstanding & Lemon Drop martinis ~ best, anywhere !

Stick with the appetizers. As per the entrees: Not bad, but nothing to rave about. I went here for a Holiday Dinner and was looking forward to another lobster dish while the steak-fanatics in my company were salivating over the thought of steak. From the tone of my opening sentence, it should come as no surprise that our expectations weren’t met. When the question, «how was your dish?» was asked, the most popular answer in our group of about 16 or so was«Okay.» Below is a breakdown of my dish and what I’ve sampled: —«Five Cheese Lobster/Bacon Macaroni»: first of, where was the lobster chunks? The bacon was pretty evident and crunchy… The little bit I could taste anyway. —«Scallops»: I liked this plate, but it was a bit cold. —«Buffalo Chicken Dip»: this was sooo good! I order this again! —«Crab and Artichoke Dip»: not bad, and though not a like-for-like comparison, the Buffalo Chicken Dip was better. —«Pulled Pork Nachos»: hmm hmm hmmmm! —«Thai Calamri»: this was all right Drinks? The drink I had was flavorful and relatively strong! I had the pomegranitini and loved it.

The food is really good here, especially for a place in the middle of State College. I ordered a steak that came with mashed potatoes and veggies and it was cooked perfectly. The crab dip is also amazing! Friendly service– our waiter had a really wild mustache thing too so extra points there

We had dinner here tonight. We each had an appetizer: heirloom tomato salad, seafood corn chowder and crab &artichoke dup. We had salmon, rib eye and a steak salad for dinner. As always the food was Outstanding. However, the service left alot to be desired. The bartender was also our waiter and he had a slamming bar. It was way too much for one person. He had several bar backs working with him but they just couldn’t keep up. We waited 30 minutes to get the bill after eating. We have eaten here whenever we are in town. The food has always been great and service has been steller until now. Next time I will be sure to ask not to be seated near the bar to avoid that problem.

Meh. Our experience never hit its stride and we won’t be back. Friends tried to warn us and we should have listened. First, service was somewhat lacking. There was no silverware or napkins when we sat, and either the hostess or the server(I forget who) promised to bring some but must have forgotten. Our salmon dip appetizer(excellent by the way) was dropped off by a third employee but we still lacked any accouterments, so we made do just dipping the bread into the serving dish with no plates or silverware. We both needed napkins as we both got a little dip on our hands, but none in sight. Our dinners appeared not long after we requested silverware from our server. She did bring it at that point. The entrees are rather pricey and we stuck to sandwiches. I ordered a bison burger, which I expected to be vivid what with the promised garlic mayo, smoked Gouda and sautéed onions. It was actually very bland. I was hungry but only ate half of it. Ironically, my husband’s prime rib sandwich, which I typically avoid because I find it bland, was far more flavorful. The fries were good; the baked beans, again, bland. Atmosphere on the outside porch was lacking. It was kind of awkwardly quiet with no music, until some was finally turned on a few minutes before we left. Décor is really sparse out there, plus it’s pretty dark. Also a little buggy. Cintronella candles? Torches? Something more was needed. We won’t be back.

Great food! Good service! Nice staff! Atmosphere is nice, but could be nicer given the prices.(They could afford a decorator.) No complaints:) would recommend!

This is a quircky, local restaurant. There are some dishes on their menu that are not A-OK, and I think they should have the sense to remove them. They are also local, not a chain, and they use local help, and this leads to mistakes, at least the number you would expect and perhaps as many as you would fear. And, they don’t reprint their menu often enough(ie to remove dishes that are out of season). The upsides are that the good dishes(seems to vary by person) are pretty good. They are not cheap, but at least there are too much of them(really, like, help make you fat too much, this actually the downside that led to this review). Some of the wait staff are pretty good, some obviously less so. I think they take direction ok, and you probably have to be more proactive with them than you would expect(e.g., hello, you will be my bartender for this evening, we have to leave in an hour, I would like more bread(which is ok bread in my book) and water, etc.), and you may have to tell them what compensation you want when they fail. at least they are not rude like Herwigs. and you should probably ask for a to-go box when you order because you will get more than you should eat. They have a nice drink selection, particularly in beer. I like to eat here when someone else is paying, for sure, and sometimes go on special occasions. summer evenings in their patio can be pretty nice too. so, yeah, I go back.

My favorite place to eat — not just in State College, but almost anywhere. It’s a wonderful mix of Surf & Turf with an Asian flare. The décor is relaxed and classy at the same time. One time I had this pumpkin ravioli, and to-date it was the greatest pasta meal I’ve ever had. Their staples are to die-for. For lunch, or cheaper fare — I love the fish tacos. Huge portions. Their sandwiches are wonderful as well. When I used to live in SC, my wife and I would frequent Kelly’s often. Now that we live in Philly, I miss it, in spite of many excellent restaurants around us.

The place looks very informal from the outside, then you enter the place and becomes formal. I have been there a few times, you should better do reservation, if you decide not to, you wont be able to seat, specially if its on the weekends of the games. The waiter attention was very nice, the last time was a young man, very smiley, and he knew the menu very well so made his recommendations. I loved the meat in teriyaki sauce as appetizer, my dressing salad was very tasty and not greasy, they prepare a crunchy caesar salad, and the meat was good. I should say it was not the best meat i have eaten, but it was ok. Not as good as it should be, given that meat is their specialty.

I’ve been here on and off since this restaurant opened. In fact, I was here when the place was called the Boalsburg Steakhouse. ATLEASTTHEYKEPTTHEBULL! Well Kelly’s has spruced things up and started inviting the people who can afford a pricey steak and allow the State College elite(my a…) a chance to put their pinkies out. The food here is actually quite good. And Yuengling for $ 2. Dat my $hit! I had the beef teriyaki appetizer which was amazing. Melted in my mouth with amazing flavor. Salads here are also nice and fresh. I thought it would be a good idea to come with my parents to this«First Friday» thing but considering some members of the group were super socially awkward, I sat at the bar debating which eye to stab first. I mentioned to the bar tender how bored I was, and he took time from serving other people their drinks to chat. It really meant a lot to me(and my eyeballs) that he went the extra mile and we had an awesome conversation. Kelly’s is a great place and I highly recommend!

I thought Kelly’s was pretty tasty! My parents and I were visiting my sister and her fiancé in PA and wanted to go somewhere nice for dinner. We made reservations so we got in without any problem, but it was pretty busy(it was a Sat. night), so I’m glad we had reservations. Pretty good selection of local beers and cocktails. Also, we got a couple appetizers: gorgonzola fried potatoes(yum) and crab dip(yum x2). Both were really good and would order them all again! We ate dinner fairly early so we were able to order off the Early Dinner Menu — you received a soup or salad, entrée, dessert and coffee for around $ 20. Great deal and tons of food, so if you’re wanting to save some money, I highly suggest that. I opted for the blue cheese salad(so good) and the parmesan encrusted sole. The sole came with mashed potatoes and roasted vegetables and was very tasty. The sole was a littttttle too buttery/greasy for my taste, but still good. For dessert, I had the choice of either cherry vanilla ice cream or raspberry sorbet. I got the raspberry sorbet, but my dad got the cherry vanilla ice cream … both were very good too! Overall, I really liked the Early Dinner Menu. It was a great deal with lots of food. I think if I would’ve ordered off the regular menu, I might not have liked it as much just because the food wasn’t overwhelmingly delicious, but the cheaper price and salad made me like it quite a bit.
