Senoj Salon

I’ve been here a few times, and I’ve had bad and good experiences here so I can’t really give them 5 stars. The bad experiences mostly involved not being super experienced with bleaching and toning. While they are good at covering roots, the colors never came out quite right (they were either too brassy/​too fake looking.), and for some reason they always insisted I didn’t need a toner (even though I really did.). They’re also a little harsh on delicate hair. The lady that did mine tried using a comb after we washed and ended up pulling lots of hair out, and another time they actually got bleach on my shirt (it was a cheap tshirt so I wasn’t too mad).
HOWEVER, I have to give them props for customer service, friendliness, and being very accommodating to clients. I once had a hair emergency and needed to see someone that day, and they fit me in no questions asked. The other salons I’d called turned me down and were extremely rude, even though I’d given them business for two years. I also like how they offer beverages before services, and the whole experience is pretty relaxing. They’re very polite and the hours are great.
The quality may not be top-​notch, but this is currently my go-​to salon in the area and they have saved the day for me countless times.

Went in & was done by Katie & it honestly did not turn out that great. Got an ombré done & wanted a transition that wasn’t drastic & had a more natural look but what I got was my basically light/​medium brown hair turning straight into bleach blonde. I don’t know if she left it on for too long (cause she seemed to come back in a rush) or if she thinks it’s gonna fade out, but it looks very weird. she also messed up the first time & had to re-​do a part of my bangs. I also asked her to re cut my hair into my long bob & the back is basically the same lengths as the front so that’s annoying. in the end I was charged 150 dollars which I wasn’t very happy to pay. never going to her again. I will say the place is very well kept & they are always asking if you need anything but honestly I don’t need refreshments & over-​pampering I just need a good hair stylist who understands what her customer wants.

Jessica did my makeup for my engagement pictures, and she just nailed it. I had a very specific, very natural look in mind and she did such an amazing job! The salon as a whole was chic but inviting and I enjoyed my time there start to finish.

I have not lived in Bloomington for 10 years — yet I have not found a better «hair whisperer» than Elizabeth. From Chicago to Indy, and now to DC, I have tried all sorts of salons and stylists, but I keep coming to the conclusion that making regular trips back to Bloomington for my hair is worth it.
Elizabeth and her team are professional, talented and the best value I have found in all of my «homes.» They understand what I can and cannot recreate, and give me the best style for my hair type and my hair styling abilities.

Bad service, the manager is terrible. I have to wait 25 mins to get a bad haircut.

I recently moved to Bloomington from Chicago, and before I left Chicago I got a haircut at the Hair Cuttery that was absolutely awful (I asked for it to be collar-​bone length and it ended up being nearly to my chin). A month or so after that awful cut in Chicago, I got up the courage to try another hair cut and decided to go to Senoj Salon. Jordan cut my hair perfectly and was fun to chat with! It looked awesome, and every single thing I didn’t like about the previous hair cut was remedied! Jordan has cut my hair a second time since then and I left ecstatic again. One other thing I love (besides the awesome shampooing sinks, peppermint shampoo, and scalp massage) is that although the salon sells products, they do not push them on you like at some other salons. Awesome place! Have already recommended it to others and will continue to do so!

My first time at Senoj was wonderful. The entire staff is professional and makes you feel relaxed and comfortable as soon as you walk in. I was offered a beverage while I waited for my stylist, and enjoyed the clean and modern décor in the waiting area. I only waited for about five minutes when I was greeted by my stylist. She was friendly and I felt like I connected with her right away.
Once I was back in the chair, my stylist, Jordan, was very professional and offered suggestions based on her knowledge of color and popular styles for my face shape. I was making a big change from long hair to a very short, edgy cut, but I knew that I was in capable hands. Jordan did a full color, cut, and style, and I felt like a new woman when I left. She gave me helpful and easy tips for shampoo and product choices, style options, and recommended trims to keep the style fresh.
The salon prides itself on high dollar quality without compromising service. Everyone was friendly and helpful, and I would trust them with any of my future salon needs. I live in Indianapolis, but I will definitely be going back to see Jordan at Senoj for my next appointment!

best value in bloomington, hands down.
I have short hair and am afraid to try new places after an awful experience at another salon, but need to scale back my spending, especially for a maintenance hair cut.
I decided to try senoj after reading such great reviews about the salon.
My stylist was super friendly and personable, and very open to me asking her to take off more here, angle my hair there, etc. I am extremely happy with my haircut and will likely be making this my permanent salon.

I have NEVER colored my hair before. It was a totally foreign concept to me. Being a natural redhead, I was nervous to take the plunge into coloring. I opted for a pretty simple style of highlights. From the moment I walked in the door, the receptionist/​stylists were extremely accommodating. They asked if I wanted anything to drink and to make myself at home. I waited for under five minutes, and then went back. I had pictures with me, and I explained to my stylist Katie exactly what I wanted. She listened carefully, and then explained how the process was going to work. She could tell I was nervous, but she made me feel much better. After it was over, I was blow away by how gorgeous my hair looked. It was better than I ever could have imagined, and that is the first time I have ever walked out of a salon feeling that way. Katie was understanding, kind, gave a wonderful scalp massage during the shampoo, and made it easy to relax. The salon itself is beautiful and is in a great location. I have been to other «upscale» salons in Indianapolis, but they were always rude… but the ladies in Senoj were so kind. The only drawback is how much it costs, but as others have said, you pay for what you get. The salon «experience» was superb and I am very happy with Senoj!

Amazing seems like an understatement for this salon.
I called after getting the worse service and hair color from MarDon Salon. Not only did the girls at Senoj listen to my horrific story but they made arrangements for me to come in for a consultation and restoration of my hair.
I was impressed. My husband was impressed and I can’t even begin to say how grateful I am for finally finding a salon that does outstanding work as well as one that goes above and beyond in customer service.

This salon is just as good as any top notch salon in Chicago, and it’s a whole heckuva lot cheaper! The owner, Elizabeth, does a wonderful job, and I was impressed that she shampoos her own clients herself! I like that the staff is warm and friendly, not catty and mean like some higher end salons (I’ve had my fair share of awful salon service). I’m going to try their coloring services as soon as I get some more money! I’m very happy with my haircut, and I’m looking forward to going back soon!

I love this salon. Nicely decorated. Friendly staff. And a GREAT cut! Just a little pricey than I like paying – but you get what you pay for.

Having lived in Bloomington for a mere two weeks, I decided to take the plunge of finding a new hair salon/​stylist opting for Ali at Senoj based on Unilocal/​internet reviews. Well, Unilocalers, you’ve not led me astray! I got a drastic cut – I went from shoulder length naturally curly hair that had been neglected all summer to a short cut (to my ears) that can be worn curly or styled straight, or anywhere in between. I am extremely pleased with how it turned out, but even more pleased with the experience I had at the salon. Ali was extremely personable and not in the annoying way many stylists are, and she cut and styled my hair expertly. She showed me how it would look curly and then styled it straight, asking my preferences along the way. While this cut isn’t my favorite hair style of all time, it’s definitely in my top five, and it was by far the best cut/​style experience I’ve ever had… not to mention the cheapest! I’ll be back!

I just went to Senoj for the first time and was VERY impressed! I have always had long hair and was afraid to go to a shorter length, but Kellyn cut my hair perfectly and it looks great. I will definitely go back again. I love the products they use as well. The haircut was only $ 25 and was worth three times as much.

I love this place! Great stylists and well worth the price! My hair always looks good now! No more Great Clips for me… never again!

This is my second review of this funtastic salon… no, i did not misspell that word! Having your hair done at Senoj is fun. Everyone is super friendly and accommodating to your individual needs. I am 60 and sell my work at art fairs all over the country… at my age having people compliment my hair instead of looking through me is a great feeling. Elizabeth suggested a little zing for my hair and thank you, thank you for all the compliments I have received from my artists friends, my customers and even the clerk at Whole Foods… that was just in Houston can’t wait to go to Reston.

Several months ago I went to see Elizabeth at Senoj to correct a botched color job and cut that I got at Mira (which used to be my regular salon but I will never go back due to horrible service). I had to leave on a business trip in 2 days and I looked like a clown, with blond chunks in my dark hair and short blunt bangs that I did not ask for. Mira couldn’t find the time to squeeze me in to correct their mistake, but thankfully I found Senoj. Elizabeth was very accomodatIng and even worked late on a Saturday to get the job done. The whole time I knew I was in good hands. She fixed the color perfectly. Of course she couldn’t grow my bangs but she somehow used her shears to make them much more acceptable. I just went back last week for a haircut and have received several compliments since. Excellent service and very professional work. I’m a satisfied customer!

Carrye, my wife, drives an hour and half once a month down here to get her hair done. I’ve never been there but she has and has gone to Elizabeth since she was at IU. Her hair always looks good when she comes back home. Elizabeth and her staff seem to have everything together in Bloomington.

I went to Senoj to get my hair colored, and have been having my hair colored for over 15 yrs, and have never had such a bad color job. The person who did my hair was 20yrs old; while I think that people this age need experience, I don’t want to pay Senoj’ prices for an inexperienced colorist to do my hair — that’s what a hair academy or Fantastic Sam’s is for.
In short, the color turned out more orange than blonde, and at 1^st they acted like it wasn’t noticeable, and then said, It’s probably b/​c you had home hair color on your hair. I was like, Um, aren’t you supposed to be the professionals? Isn’t one of your services ‘corrective coloring?‘
The owner DID invite me back to have it fixed, and insisted they wanted me to be happy. but then instead of fixing it herself, she let the same girl do my hair!
After the 2^nd visit, it was better, but still not great. I will not go back there ever again and do not recommend it.

I love this salon! My fiancé always makes fun of me for not liking my hair after a cut, but I came back from this salon raving about how wonderful my hair was. Elizabeth is great and so personable. I can’t stop going back for everything I need done!
