Welp, they are closing toward the end of this month. I came here a couple times before and was always able find what I wanted at a reasonable price. Right now many of the newer items that will be easy to transfer to Glendale Heights are not on sale. A few brands are going for 20% off. Clearance is currently an additional 40% off, so I took advantage of that. I left the store with a couple shirts, a knee brace, a mummy sleeping bag, a sleeping bag pad, a reflective runner vest, workout shorts and a few other things. The total was about $ 70 for over $ 300 worth of stuff. Not too bad. Selection is dwindling, but there are still some good finds. Get it while the getting’s good!

I stopped by this location while visiting my parents — I was looking for some Bulls apparel for my boyfriend. Basically impossible to find in STL. I was surprised to see the sign that they are closing, but there is another location about five minutes away in Glendale Heights. I think it used to be a Sports Mart? Anyway, the selection was pretty sparse. The closing date must be soon. I still found a black Bulls polo for the BF — mission accomplished! I later saw the same polo at Dick’s Sporting Goods for $ 15MORE than Sports Authority! I also picked up a tshirt… when in Rome? They also have an offer of $ 10 off a purchase of $ 50 or more when you check in! I love love love places that offer deals with Unilocal check ins :) Once this location closes and next time I am nearby, I will be sure to check out the other/new location.

My problem was that I lost my debit card but I called prior to coming in their store to return it and they said they would be able to give me cash back because it is a debit card. Anyways, I was in this store on October 28, 2011. I went in to do a return on a North face Vest. Shelby was the worker that was there. She looked at it and then started to add up the tax to return it. She started to return it. But after 3 minutes she said you know what let me call a manager to see if you can get full cash instead of half gift card half debit card return. I said okay the manager came named Chris. I showed him the receipt and he said okay do you have your debit card I said I do not because I lost it(I did lose my debit card). I did call in and one of your workers said it was okay to get cash back. He was not nice at all and he refused to take it back. I said I can show you my other credit cards that do have the same name on it to prove to you it is my card(I mean I am not stealing money if anything I will give money if its not my card) OMG! He said nope sorry I can not return it. I can only give you full store credit. I said I can call my debit card(checking account bank) so he can talk to them and believe me that I lost it. He said no sorry I can not return it. Okay so why are you the manager? Why did they put you as a manager? A manager is on top of all the workers and has to be their for any customer’s concerns or their store will be out of sight in minutes. We do know it is a recession now and with a blink of an eye that store can be dead gone. Then pray to god to find a job Manager Chris. I do not really care about the manager I feel bad for the store and the store name. I will never step in this sports authority anymore due to this problem. Okay there you go your store lost a customer. If he treats every customer with this respect I guarantee nobody will shop in their store and their jobs will be gone also. I will also bring this up with their headquarters and the store manager.

This is a smaller SA store which doesn’t have nearly the selection of some of the larger ones. As mentioned by the previous reviewer, thankfully it isn’t overcrowded, which makes getting in and out easy. A lot of smaller sporting goods items can be purchased for cheaper on Amazon, even when you factor in shipping. Exercise mats, thumb grippers, rubber bands, all of them I compared prices with in the store and each time Amazon beat them. Shopping with SA isn’t a compelling option unless you wish to try on shoes, of which they do have some decent deals. As for general merchandise, you’ll find better selection at their larger stores, but even still, if you have a smartphone, you will probably find the same brand-name merchandise cheaper even factoring in shipping on Amazon or eBay. If you need a quick fix, this place will suffice.

This is your basic sporting goods chain store. If they have it, it’s on the shelf. If not, God forbid if you ask them to go in the back and look! I’ve bought many kids’ football, baseball and soccer shoes here. It’s pretty much a hit or miss as far as finding the style and size you want. They do have shoe sales — buy one get one at 50% off — but it never applies to sporting goods shoes, Nikes or anything else I’ve ever wanted to buy. The location is easy to get to. I’ve never seen it that crowded, so if my kids want to run around in the shoe department while I’m digging around to find a pair that fits, I’m ok with that.
