i ordered a Red snapper Dinner and a side of mac and cheese. The flavor on the snapper was very good although it was fried a little too hard, the rice was sort of on the dry side and i barely had any escoveitch topping. now the worst part was the macaroni. the way i received it it looked to me as if it was microwaved. A lot of condensation in the container and it was just yuck. But i liked the fish thats all i can say. But definitely not worth the 20+ dollars i had to pay.

This place makes great oxtail and rice and peas. I have yet to be disappointed from them. The only thing that annoys me about this place is that they don’t always have everything that’s on their menu. I always get quick delivery only one time it was a min later then the estimated time but it was a Saturday night and the food was hot and yummy, so it didn’t really bother me. It’s hard to find a good Jamaican restaurant that taste like my grandmas cooking but this place is a keeper!

I just called them and they asked how they can help me then cut me off and asked to place me on hold. Eventually I hung up and tried calling back and it’s still going to voicemail 15 minutes later. They food isn’t even all that but the closest one to me and they customer service is absolutely terrible

I ordered from seamless and the food came super fast. I ordered the curry goat with rice and beans and it was really good. I lived in Flatbush in Brooklyn for years and have been missing some good Jamaican food and this place did not disappoint. The curry was just spicy enough, there was a good amount of gravy on the rice and it came with cake. Yes!

Just ordered this food tonight My fiancé and I decided we would give it a try. I could kick myself i spent $ 30 on this place. :(The food was just NOTGOOD. You go to specialty restaurants like this because your hoping to have some amazing authentic tasting carribean food. The mac and cheese looked and tasted like plastic. The curry chicken was nasty. The Jerk chicken was better than the curry but still not good. The only good thing was the Beef patty but clearly they buy those from the grocery store. It was just UGHHHH so nasty. Oh actually The chocolate cake wasn’t bad it was moist and rich.

This is my first time ordering from here; the food was ready when I got there, parking wasn’t the greatest, but with a little patience I found a spot. The curry chicken was dry & tasteless, the peas & rice lacked salt & was bland; as for the cabbage it was just okay. For the overall experience I give this place 2 stars. I took a menu with me, but don’t think that it will be utilized as this was my first & last time eating from there. Sorry for the honesty, I’m sure that they had the best of intentions; it’s just that there was no authenticity in the taste of this food, hate to toot my own horn, but I make better curry chicken & I’m not even Jamaican.

I just want to say that I am well was a very loyal customer to Tropics Restaurant a restaurant located maybe 10 to 15 minutes from my house. I tried to order with them tonight especially because they had dumplings, my favorite, however because my order total was $ 14.56 the woman refuse to place the order because it wasn’t $ 20 or more. Not to mention I always give a good tip so in all actuality the order would have exceeded $ 20 but she was Adament about not delivering to a loyal customer who spends a lot of money with them because I was $ 5 short. Preposterous. This is why black owned businesses don’t stay in business because of reason like these. Be that as it may, I will never order from them again especially knowing that it is only my money that matters and not my loyalty to them and how often I order. Not to mention it would take them about 15 minutes to get to my house. The nerve of this woman. But I just wanted everyone to know how money hungry these people are and how the importance of a loyal customer means nothing to them only their money. They will never get anymore of my money, loyalty or services EVER. And I’m gonna let everywhere I can leave a comment about them know just how they are. Very sad and extremely unprofessional. I’ve definitely had better Caribbean food in the Essex County area. Had delivery from here once but it was simply ok. The curry goat was lacking liquid and rather dry, as was the rice.

The food was ok. The curry goat tasted a bit old. The rice and peas was so so. Not a bad experience. Not good either.

Had to come here twice today. My wife wanted Jamaican food for lunch, so i Unilocaled and found this place, and honestly, this place deserves at least 4 stars. I called them, placed my order, and in no time, I arrived and picked it up. I asked to see my order because it smelled so good. As I drove to deliver the food to my wife at work, I contemplated on pulling over, to eat half of it, but I held back diligently. When I delivered the food to her, she couldn’t stop smiling, and the more I salivated. I called right away and placed a second order. Yep! I had to taste the curiosity I had built in me, and it was worth it. The fish was well done and well sautéed, the portion size was generous and complimented Jamaican food so well. If you’re looking some good Jamaican food, yeah mon! This is the place to go. Bless Up!

So I went there around 1:30… Went up to the counter and asked for the smallest size container being that I was placing 2 orders and it was only lunch not dinner didn’t need a 2 large orders for 2 people… Anyway the girl points at the medium-sized container and I was like«no that’s too big what happened to the the smaller containers«the girl says we don’t have those anymore so I look to my right where they have the food and there was the small containers, so I told her and pointed to them and I said look those containers I meant the lunch special containers… And she said nop we don’t do lunch specials anymore… What kind of restaurant doesn’t have a lunch special??? Anyway I was already there so I asked to just give me the medium sized order that was $ 12 … I get home open it and there was barely food in the container, I figured I would be able to split it been that the medium sized container was triple the size of the small… I was shocked all they did was make the container bigger but put less food than the small containers… If I’m paying $ 12 for an order give $ 12 worth of food … I will never come back again I don’t mind paying more if I get more food but how are they going to serve a little bit of food. The food is decent it needs more salt and seasonings but I was fine w it because too much sodium is not good for u… I guess I will have to drive all the way to the Oranges whenever I want some jerk food …

I ordered delivery at 11:30am, and their estimated delivery time was between 12:35 and 12:45. However, nothing happened until they called me at 12:53 since they didn’t have a drink that I ordered, so I thought delivery guy was about to depart. But until 1:30 nothing happened, but still I gave them 10 more minutes until I call them; it was already pass 2 hours, and my patience was getting thinner. Never order delivery here!

Tropics is a small restraunt(around 5 – 7 tables?) located right in downtown bloomfield. The area is relatively safe and ahs an ihop and state street diner very close to it. Parking is side street and depending on the day can be hard to find. Service: Okay. You go upto the counter, order and sit anywhere. Food: Their rice and peas was pretty good– needed salt. Jerk chicken was really well done and tasted amazing– but it didnt really taste authentic. They have carrot juice and ting from what i recall. Cabbage salad was spiced with lemon juice vinegar sat and pepper. It was simple and somewhat refershing. The plantains were good too– a little too dry for my taste though. Food was priced reasonably for their portion(lunch special: 3 pieces of chicken, and a heavy hand of rice and peas + cabbage salad). They had a few slices of cake for dessert. Id return here for some grub!

My bff roots are from jamica and I always wanted to try their food. Today I got a chance to eat some real jamican food. I never knew«tropic» was so close to my house. I loved the place. It’s a small resturant with good lighting. It’s located in the downtown area of bloomfield. Parking Is A Struggle around the area but if u look ia not bad. Well Food ia judt awesome… Me n my frd both ordered jerk chicken with rice n beans and cabbage salad with plantains. Let me tell u, the first bit of that chicken was so so good. Even after couple of hours I still have the taste of the chicken in my mouth. Rice and bean were little dry. They can prolly cool for less to kept it morr moist. Cabbage salad was good too. Food was not that spice, a perfect amount of spice for people who don’t eat spicy food. It’s a native jamican resturant so they carry jamican soda ting. I def recommend people to try out food at this place If u are in a mood for some jamica jerk chicken. May be next time I will try something else. Servers was fast and decent and price is resonable.

Always on the lookout for a good Jamaican restaurant to fix my inborn cravings. My family is of Jamaican descent so I have had my fair share of authentic Jamaican cuisine and have visited Jamaica several times. This place is definitely the best spot I have come across since moving to the area. I have ordered delivery off of Grubhub twice and have not been disappointed yet. Delivery is very fast considering this Is a Jamaican spot. Most Jamaican restaurant I have been to are very slow with the service… Idk why but I have found that to be the case. The food arrived hot and fresh. I ordered the Jerk chicken, rice and peas, and steamed cabbage combo. It also came with fried plaintains. The Jerk chicken was very flavorful and delicious. My only complaint would be that it wasn’t quite spicy enough. I can understand since restaurants have to cater to different tastes so they tone it down for people who cant tolerate too much heat. I like my food very spicy so I was a bit disappointed. The flavor was excellent however! The rice and peas were good and the rice was not cooked too long or mushy. Plaintains were very sweet and perfectly ripe. The cabbage I enjoyed the least. It was a bit bland and greasy. It shouldn’t be that greasy considering that its supposed to be steamed. But overall I thoroughly enjoyed my meal. Hubby got the curry chicken combo and seemed to enjoy it as well. But hes not picky! It is a bit pricey but that’s Jamaican food for ya! I will definitely be ordering again in the future. Next time I want to try the homemade sorrel. That will be the true indicator of how authentic this place is!

Very poor customer service… the guy at the cash registered had an attitude as if I was annoying him(he was on his cell phone texting). Ive had their oxtails… dry and so small! As far has the jerk chicken; that has got to be the most dry and flavorless jerk chicken I have ever had in my life. I had to put some jerk spice from my kitchen cabinet to make it edible… and the lunch portion is a SMALL square box. I will not be going back… disgusting.

Hot damn! Good news and bad news. Good news: I Finally found excellent goat curry! Bad news: I just started a diet. Really slammin’ patties. I had beef and veggie. Slighty sweet, flaky pastry and great, creamy, savory filling. Cabbage and the works in the veggie one were well seasoned. I wanted another, but they were sold out. Not surprised. See you again in a couple of months. Can’t wait!

I checked out this place based on the high reviews of other Unilocalers. I got the jerk chicken with rice and peas, cabbage & plantain. The food was average. The dark pieces of the chicken were most and flavorful. The white pieces were very dry. I never get the jerk sauce on my chicken so this is without a sauce. Rice was bland but with the sauce it was good. I enjoyed the cabbage & veggie mix. It was a little different than the normal. Overall, the food was ok.
