I have been to France and have had amazing meals. This place is definitely up there in comparison. Everything we had was so delicious and tasty. The starter bread with minted butter is a nice unique touch. We started our dinner with escargots which were cooked in olive oil and garlic. Very good! For dinner I ordered one of the special which was the pork chop with Brussels sprouts and bacon. It was an Interesting mix and went together very well. Husband ordered the lamb rack with couscous and the ratatouille. The ratatouille was out of this world. Made me think I was a food critic and the chef was of the vermin persuasion. Lastly we ended with the chocolate soufflé which was moist, fluffy, and oh so chocolatey! Tip: If you are interested in having a soufflé you have to order it as soon as you arrive at the restaurant because it takes time to make.

Mes Reves utterly exceeded my expectations and won my heart as the best fine dining in the area. Hands down. It’s a small restaurant with beautiful interior. Everything on my plate was unbelievably perfect it was almost unreal. I had the salmon entrée. The fish itself was perfect. The potatoes were perfect. Even the asparagus was perfect. It was flavorful and had an interesting crunch. I also had the pleasure to try the steak with fries. The fries were to die for. I had a lovely dining experience at Mes Reves and would love to return soon to explore the menu and try more of their mind-blowing dishes.

What a wonderful experience we had. Each dish was better then the next. The staff were so nice along with the owner who kept coming out to our table to check on it. I highly recommend the mushroom tart and the bread pudding.

I took my girlfriend here on our first date. And now for our 3rd anniversary we will be sure to return for another fantastic meal. The food is of «my dreams»… the service is better than some fine dining experiences ive had in nyc… The price is right… How much better can it get!

A hidden gem in Bloomfield, New York worth making the trip across the river for. For French cuisine, the prices here are fair. The menu is standard; I came with a huge group so I tried basically everything on the menu. This place is also BYOB — how amazing is that? The restaurant is small but spacious. The ambience is trendy and romantic but not too fancy. In terms of service, the waitress was super sweet and friendly the whole time. Now onto the food… Like I said, I tried its whole menu, and I can vouch that everything is delicious. But my favorite was the Sautéed Skate and the dessert. Check out Mes Reves everyone!

The menu offers what is typical at an establishment this aesthetic caliber. The dish presentation and preparation was excellent. Service was nothing special, but met our expectations. As noted by many other reviewers, this area of Broad St in Bloomfield NJ, is in the beginning stages of a fantastic gentrification path. Vist Mes Reves.

First time trying this local restaurant during restaurant week. My husband and I had a reservation for 8 and boy was the place packed! All tables filled! We were sat quickly and given the menu. Our waitress was so sweet and didn’t rush us at all. The food was delicious. I had the mushroom tart, which had a yummy flaky pastry and burgundy sauce(I wish there was more of the sauce!). My next course was the pan seared salmon — this was delicious and cooked to perfection, personally I would have liked mashed potatoes instead. Finally was dessert– I got the bread pudding with ice cream. I was satisfied with all of the food and service. Plus it’s a byob so you couldn’t ask for more. We will definitely be back!

Reviewers on Unilocal prompted us to choose Mes Reves for our first experience of Bloomfield’s Restaurant Week. Thank you! My husband began with a crab cake — not cake with crab and filler — but lumps of delicious crab lightly coated. I chose the mushroom tart much touted by others on Unilocal.I was not disappointed. The chef was generous with the shiitake mushrooms in a tasty sauce. The pastry was not the shell that I expect of a tart. More accurately the menu might call it «Mushrooms Served Over a Puff Pastry.» But the dish was heavenly! For the entrée we both chose pork loin served with creamed potatoes and roasted Brussel sprouts with bacon bits. For dessert, my husband chose the chocolate cake. I chose the bread pudding. Each was served with vanilla ice cream. When we traded bites, eyes sparkled in delight. I prefer a lighter brioche to the heavier bread in this pudding, but I left not a dab on the plate. The wait staff were gracious, attentive and competent. The food was superb. We will return to experience their full menu.

A fantastic French bistro that is run by a Vietnamese family. A winning and delicious combination to be sure. My wife had skate for the third time in her life and was extremely pleased. It was crispy on the outside and so tender on the inside. I’ve got a terrible habit of enjoying a meal, taking pictures of the meal, and then waiting months to put it on Unilocal after the pictures go bye bye.

Frankly, I don’t know how this place is getting such good reviews from other Unilocalers. The place has no atmosphere, the prices quite high for what you get and the food isn’t prepared well. $ 29 for a steak frite? Maybe 8 oz of NY strip but it was grilled, not made in a pan, like the French cook brasserie steak. All you need is a good sear, then drown it in butter, fresh thyme and some garlic. Easy Peasy but grill marks, fat not rendered properly and they call this a bistro steak? The fois wasn’t cooked well, the escargot was served with potatoes(actually, not a bad combo but not for this purpose) but that’s not what I wanted. Simple, butter, garlic, parsley and snails! That’s it. Why screw with perfection. Snails were too dry. Where’s my radishes and butter? Where’s the French in this place? Very limited menu, not even a chicken paillard?!?

3.25 stars. We came on a Monday evening and had a nice experience. Unsurprisingly, the restaurant was completely empty at this time. The staff was very nice and the décor was welcoming and modern. We ordered three apps and shared an entrée. The apps were very good, ordering the escargot, the sweetbreads, and the mussels(special). The escargot comes de-shelled and mixed in cheese and potatoes and olives. It was good but we prefer them shelled. The mussels were huge and delicious and the broth was also good. The two issues we had were: there is a $ 25 weekday pre-fix menu but we weren’t told about it until after we ordered off the main menu. Maybe this was an oversight or maybe this was on purpose since the restaurant was completely empty our entire stay. Either way, this was a disappointment. Also, the steak entrée, Steak au poivre, while cooked the way we asked(rare), was underwhelming, bland, tough to cut and tendon-y. For a $ 30 entrée, I would imagine they would use a higher quality meat. Other Unilocalers here suggested to stay away from the steak; I wish I listened. Despite those issues, I would come back and try other entrees. Oh, and it’s BYOB.

It’s BYOB. Don’t forget. Mes Reves is a nice French bistro that is reasonably priced(especially with the BYOB). Appetizers are my favorite part. The seared foie gras is my favorite(it’s an actual piece of foie gras and not some pâté foolishness). The other items that top my list is the mushroom tart with it’s mixture of flavor and flakiness, and the sea scallops, which come with such a delectable sauce. That being said, every appetizer is delicious, so pick what appeals to you the most. However, don’t misinterpret my appetizer love for me not enjoying the entrees dishes. If you like lamb, their rack of lamb is incredibly good. My other favorite is the skate. If you like the fibrous texture of skate, Mes Reves does a great one with a slightly crispy exterior. As for dessert, I absolutely love the flan, which has an amazingly creamy feel to it. There are only two places I will have flan from anymore, and this is one of them. The soufflé is also amazing, and I am ever a fan of bread pudding.

As a native New Yorker, I believe that the best food can be found in New York. Mes Reves is a very significant exception. I gave been there several times with my wife and we were more than pleased. the sweetbreads are sublime, served with demi glacé was reason enough to return. The foie gras is good enough to be anyone’s death row meal. They give a slice bigger than you’d ever expect. It melts on your tongue like rich European butter. My wife ordered the skate as her entrée. it was served with cous cous, a side that tends to be boring and plain. In this case it was buttery, seasoned, and the perfect compliment to the bad ass skate.(manta ray? yep, the wing is what we know as skate.) I had steak an poivre, thats peppercorn crusted steak and its the reason France OWNS the US at steak dishes. Steak is great, but it really benefits from the spicy crunch of a peppercorn the truffle fries are killer too!!! You cannot miss this place

We were looking for some great French food, and that is exactly what we got. The staff there is very attentive. I had the escargot with garlic, potatoes, olives and cheese. For dinner I had the skate with mushrooms and tomato. It was all delicious. My bf had the duck which was also excellent. The espresso and bread pudding were also great. It’s byob and we never felt rushed. Will definitely be returning here.

First time and can I just say the food and service was fabulous. From appetizers to desert my wife, son and I were so full. My son said the French onion soup was the best he had. The entries were a perfect size and so delectable and the soufflé for desert was so light and tasty. Definitely go again and recommend to everyone I know.

Gastronomic Erotica! Mes Reves French Bistro — Bloomfield, NJ There it was… On the corner of an unassuming street somewhere in Bloomfield New Jersey of all places… A blend of brick and glass… The décor inside??? Tables perfectly lined up… The walls… A blend of white, black brown and tan… Ornate woodwork accentuating the stone and highlighting the purposely placed bottles of wine… Everything beautifully tied together… I could just tell I was in store for something special… As I enjoyed my mesculin salad with its medley of field greens, candied walnuts, cranberries and chunks of tomatoes in a challot vinaigrette, I could hear«Le Mer» by Kevin Kline softly playing in the background… I just love French food and music… A perfectly baked French loaf was served… Exact pieces were cut, warm with an aroma to tantalize the senses… And the butter… They whip their own butter here with mint leaves… The Beef Bourguignon… Oh the Beef Bourguignon… You don’t even need a fork… Just look at her and the folds that are her meat will spread for you… Tender, succulent cuts of beef that fell straight from heaven… The brown sauce, as only the French can do, with its blend of carrots, potatoes, baby onions, mushrooms and bacon can only be described as an orchestra of sensuality… Served with a side of that perfectly cut French bread and dijon mustard… Just when I think wow,…, this meal can’t possibly get any better, what do I see on the dessert menu but Flan! The richest, creamiest most sensual serving of custard my palate has ever had the pleasure of consuming… And escorting the Flan to my own personal Nirvana was my signature Cappuccino… Wow…, somebody get me a towel…

I came here last night with some friends after my first snowboarding trip. So my buddy suggested this awesome little french restaurant since we were passing through town and it was getting close to dinner time. He’s been there before and knew we could BYOB and thus we stopped and picked up a bottle of wine and headed over. We were the first customers of the night and when asked where we wanted to sit, we immediately choose the seats by the window. I’m a huge fan of people watching so by the window was ideal. Our server greeted us very warmly and completely made us feel like family, bringing by water and menus. After a few moments of perusing the menu I wanted everything! Every dish on the menu sounded delicious and this is before the waitress came back with the specials of the night, and some wine glasses. I ended up going for the French Onion Soup, and then we split a bunch of appetizers, including sweetbreads(omg so good) and scallops and i ended up deciding upon the Berkshire pork chop — as the special of the night. First and foremost — the fresh baked baguette with the honey mint butter… TODIEFOR! I could sit there and have THAT bread and THAT butter as an entire meal! But i digress: French Onion Soup — amazing. It was proportioned so that, while normally the soup could stand as it’s own meal — it was meant as an appetizer. Fresh and sweet, it was probably the best french onion soup I’ve ever had. The layer of cheese was a hearty portion, but not overpowering, the bready layer was crisp on the edges which gave it a nice flavor and texture and lastly the onions, not overpowering and sweet. Delicious! The Appetizers — I immediately jumped at the Sweetbreads. I love them — they are super delicious and these were cooked perfectly! It came on top of string beans in a creamy sauce that complimented all the flavors wonderfully. The Scallops were beautifully plated to the point i didn’t want to cut into them! Delicious again — these had a saffron cream sauce and some fried leek on top which added a dimension to the dish that was amazing. And the Mushroom Tart — which we also had — I’ve had mushroom tarts before — but this was a hearty sized portion that was delicious. I love the mix of mushrooms, sauce and puff pastry. It worked beautifully. We had a few minutes to enjoy our wine and chatting between our appetizers and entrees. It came and i was surprised at the portion of pork chop. Beautifully cooked with a wonderful mustard cream sauce — this is a dish i’ll be trying to recreate on my own for a very long time. The sauce was sweet and mustardy and added an oomph to the dish that i thoroughly enjoyed. Don’t let me forget about the mashed potatoes and brussels sprouts! These were all extremely delicious and as dinner goes. Probably one of the best dinners of 2014. We grabbed a cup of coffee before tallying up the bill and thanking the waitstaff and even the Chef(a wonderful man who cooked up the amazing dinner) I’m definitely coming back… over and over again… and if you know what’s good for you — you’ll come here as well!

Mes Rêves. «My dreams,» for those of you who don’t parler français. My initial impressions were: –The friendly Vietnamese hostess, who I later learned to be the co-owner with her Vietnamese husband chef.(Reference the history between France and Vietnam if this duo doesn’t make sense.) –The wait. The place was hopping. –The décor. Very classy. –BYOB. A plus, though the collection of wine bottles in the front window confused me into thinking it wasn’t. We went here during restaurant week($ 30 pre-fixe menu with appetizer, main dish and dessert). To start, we shared: –Salad Aux Lardon(poached egg, crispy bacon, croutons, shallot vinaigrette) and — Escargot(garlic herb butter, roasted potatoes, kalamata olives) The salad was light and refreshing and the escargot unlike any I’ve ever had before the with potatoes and olives. For entrees: — NY Strip Flap Steak(potato purée, asparagus, mushroom bordelaise) — Stuff Pan Seared Rabbit(spinach, mushroom, pine nuts, wild rice, mustard cream sauce) The NY Strip was good, but nothing remarkable. It was obvious a lot of work went into the rabbit, but the supplemental $ 5 charge was kind of laughable considering how small the portions are here all around. I’m aware the French aren’t exactly known for their generous serving sizes, but everything here seemed miniaturized. Perhaps this was unique to the restaurant week pre-fixe menu, but I left somewhere between satisfied, yet still hungry. And after a $ 70 bill, not including tip, I’m in no hurry to go rushing back. Desserts: –Almond crème brûlée –Bread Pudding Street parking.

I struggled between the 4 and 5, but remembered just how good my mushroom tart was, so 5 it is. The hot French baguette, with honey mint butter, is a nice start to a wonderful meal. The bread could have been a bit softer, but I can’t complain about warm bread. Get the mushroom tart for an app. I finished with the delicious duck breast, which could have had a better, more creative side, but the cranberry rice was still delicious. The cranberry bread pudding was a great choice for desert and my husbands cappuccino was one of the best I’ve had — the nice touch was that they didn’t have skim milk(wink wink). Gem.

I actually ATE brussel sprouts here. I never eat brussel sprouts. Ever. That ALONE meant something to me. ************** Mes Reves has been THE best French restaurant I’ve eaten at to date. The only thing I can fault this place for is not having drapes/curtains on the huge, front windows. It’s a bit distracting looking across at Bloomfield Barber Shop as you dine. BUT that has NOTHING to do with the overall ambiance of the place, and, of course, the magnificent food here… Mes Reves is decorated very well: exposed brick, wine bottles illuminated with old-school photos and posters along the wall; great, comfortable booths with arm rests built-in. It’s a great vibe inside for a nice, romantic dinner. Gotta go into a bit of depth with a 5-star spot. The APP: The Mesclun Salad was my appetizer, and I would come back just for it. Greens, goat cheese, almonds and small croutons with an unbelievable shallot vinaigrette. Absolutely perfect. Nice and tangy with the soft, but creamy, goat cheese absolutely killed it. The ENTREE: I got the Pork Tenderlon, and I was eagerly awaiting its arrival. Paired with our choice of Bordeaux for the dinner wine, the tenderloin was delicious. Pre-sliced, it just fell over on the plate as you ate it, piece by piece. I got it cooked medium-rare, and Mes Reves did it excellently. Combined with the sweet potato and brussel sprouts(which were unreal, and I HATEBS’s), this entre was absolutely perfect. DESSERT: A lovely cappuccino to finish off the meal hit the spot. Mes Reves is a bit of a hidden gem in Bloomfield, but if you want a top-notch experience with amazing French food, you need to stop in here!
