Good selection of beer and a uniqueness that makes it worth going back for. I had a pizza that I called the«Polar Vortex» its the Polar with pineapple and jalapenos added to it! I’d definitely go back if I’m in town again.

I’ve visited this place quite regularly a few years ago and it hasn’t changed. I like the steaks, however they seem to known for their pizza. Although pizza is not on my list it looks amazing and I can’t imagine you’d be disappointed. It’s in a strip mall but don’t be turned away by that, go in, I recommend!

The mushroom bruschetta was wonderful with spinach on the bottom! Cite, quaint place. The Mediterranean pizza was ok. the crust was a bit bready & plain — needs something like maybe a dipping sauce. Overall, a nice venture off the roads when wanting a non chain restaurant

We live in Atlanta and come to Bismarck at least once a year to visit family. We have to make a trip to the Walrus every time we are in town. All of the food looks amazing but, we have our favorites and they never disappoint. The service is good and the food is amazing!

Yummmmm. Tomato basil soup is the best. Love the atmosphere and the unlimited bread, and the servers are always so nice. They know us as regulars and always take extra time to make sure we have everything we need.

There’s a lot of buzz about this place so I figured we’d try it out. It wasn’t great but wasn’t horrible either. The food is decent but nothing special. The meatballs are huge but leave you wishing for just a little more flavor. Tried the buffalo chicken wrap as well but it was nothing to write home about. I was disappointed in the service and environment though. I ordered a Shiner Bock and when the bottle came it was warm, nothing like getting ready to enjoy a beer after a long hot day and realizing it’s warm. Speaking of the heat, granted it was a pretty hot day but it was also very warm inside the restaurant. It’d be understandable but then the tables are packed so close together that I was squished between my table and another diners chair back. When the bill came it left me just a little more disappointed about what I was paying for what I relieved. Maybe removing a table or two would alleviate all of the above and make it a little easier on the servers as well. Overall, this place has the ability to be cool and very good it just needs to knock off some of the rough edges.

Great place for lunch or dinner and the menu actually had tons to choose from. The service was excellent. I ordered Alfredo with chicken and broccoli and they do not skimp on the meat. In fact it almost had to much chicken. I also had the pork and bean soup which was awesome consisted of carrots potato pork sausage chunks and pinto beans.

I’ve been in Bismarck several weeks over the past few months. I stayed and worked downtown so I focused on restaurants that were in walking distance. There were plenty, so I never felt a need to branch out. This stay I was north of town so I was going to have to drive to dinner. I found The Walrus Restaurant on Unilocal and the ratings screamed, «Give it a try!» And so I did. My first impression was less than perfect. The entryway in thin. I mean thin. It’s thin. Someone was cleaning the windows and it was a tight squeeze getting by. What was more uncomfortable was her not speaking. A simple«Hi» would have sufficed, but nothing. It was awkward. Imagine my surprise when she walked up to my table as my waitress. The bread was good, but the butter as mentioned previously here on Unilocal, was delicious. It was room temperature spreadable. It had green things in it and it tasted vaguely of garlic, but no… I don’t think it was garlic, but it was flavorful and good. The menu is huge. I was surprised to see the lunch menu at 4:30, but that was okay because the dinner menu has even MORE options! It was hard to choose, but I opted for the Wal-Rus pizza — Canadian bacon, sausage, sauerkraut, onions, Swiss cheese, mozzarella and Dijon sauce. I thought, «It’s named after the place and boy is it unique. I have to try it». Boy am I glad I did! I was nervous it would be too sauerkrauty or taste like a Reuben, but I was surprised. The flavor of the sauerkraut melded perfectly with the sausage. It wasn’t sour. In fact, I’m not sure I would have known there was sauerkraut on the pizza if I hadn’t read the menu. It blended in so well with the other ingredients. The onions were a perfect taste sensation added to the mix. And the Dijon sauce complimented everything. Oh, and Swiss cheese… I couldn’t taste it, though I’m sure it was there. This is not a negative. My point being the Swiss cheese, much like the sauerkraut, became part of the whole. These flavor belong together! It sounds weird, but it is GOOD!!! I love the beer selections, but I was disappointed the waitress took the draft menu after I ordered. I would like to have tried a few different beers. I’m sure she would have brought the menu back if she had come back… any… time… soon. My first beer was empty and it stayed that way a LONG time. So the pizza was a five. Service was a two. Better Service would have made a huge difference.

Great food, great service, great everything! Staff takes good care of you and the service is fast. The soup is one of best I’ve ever had, no matter what kind. The atmosphere is great, not too loud and not silent. We came here on whim and we are definitely coming back many more times!

My sister and I ate lunch there on Monday. I had an excellent pasta– florentine ravioli with chicken and my sis had the warm salad with goat cheese, cranberrys. Both great! Service good too. Small place but cozy! Always eat there when I’m in town.

One of my favorite restaurants in Bismarck. It’s a smaller restaurant with a chill vibe. All the pasta items I’ve had are fantastic. The soup is always delicious(chicken wild rice is my go to). My boyfriend had one of the pizzas made into a calzone last time which was awesome! You get a pretty decent amount of food, especially the pasta items. They also have the best moscato I’ve ever had! Never had a problem with the service. Definitely recommend this place.

That was a really good ham sandwich and tomato basil bisque! Too many big tomato chunks in the bisque. The sandwich is like a shrunken down version of a deli sandwich which is perfect to eat for one person. I’ll have to try other meals here.

It’s really a bummer the service is so awful because the food is awesome. The last server we had barely did her job. Beer selection is awesome and it’s great when there is live music.

If you visit The Walrus, then you must try the soup! It must be homemade, because it’s absolutely delicious. I had a late lunch here upon the recommendation of several Bismarck locals, and it did not disappoint! I was immediately seated, even though it seemed to be busy for a week day. I was served bread with butter(the butter is fantastic), and I got a large iced tea. I ordered the buffalo chicken wrap and got chicken & wild rice soup. For $ 8.99, this was the best lunch I have had in awhile. The wrap was really fresh, the ratio of buffalo sauce to chicken and cheese was perfect, and the soup was AMAZING. Creamy, hot, and really tasty. The service here is awesome. My waitress was friendly, prompt, and on the ball. I love that the atmosphere is secluded and dark. It helps keep the hat away on hot summer days. This may be my favorite restaurant in Bismarck!

Not a bad little place. The food was alright, but I’m not sure it was worth the price. The service made up for it. They were helpful and courteous. The steak was cooked exactly like I asked, but a touch on the bland side. There’s a good selection of beers on tap. The sides were nothing to write home about. The manager was tending bar and he was very polite and told me all about where I should stop while I am in town. His service was prompt and friendly. I would go back again, but next time I’ll try a pizza or pasta dish. Apparently that’s what they are really known for.

This is the best place is town to eat. Their Chicken Diablo is amazing! My friends swear by their blackened Salmon(I don’t do fish so can’t say to much there) LOVE their pizzas as well. Every time I drive down from Minot I always get food to go or go in for dinner if I have time!!! Love this place!!! Also their selection of beer is always awesome as well! So many different flavors try;)

Service has rapidly gone down hill in the past year or so. Food is still pretty good, but not as good as it once was. Beer selection is good. However, I cannot get over how bad the service has become. This starts from the top. Management is inattentive, servers are crass, and it really seems like none of the staff cares if you enjoy your dining experience. I really used to love this place, but I’m not sure I can ever go back.

The Walrus is not as good as I remember. The pizza seemed dry, not enough sauce. The place was very busy, which is good for a local establishment.
