The Bismarck location definitely has a different feel than the Grand Forks location, but that doesn’t make it any less enjoyable– just different. The atmosphere at the Grand Forks location definitely feels fancier and is more of a date location– lights are dimmer, seating is very intimate. However, the Bismarck location has a hip, industrial vibe. Everything is concrete, it is better lit, and it has more bar seating. There are higher tables and stools that make it feel more casual and more suitable for a happy hour. The art on the walls is very contemporary, by local artists(lots of favorites), and for sale. I always get the fried cheesy pickles here, something the Frog is known for. They don’t look the prettiest, but they are always hot(fresh) and exactly how I remember. The Toasted Frog has a fairly robust wine, liquor, and beer menu, but I usually get a cocktail here since they have so many choices.

Stopped in one night to grab some dinner and a drink, definitely a place that I would come back and visit. Our waitress was very on point and offered suggestions on the menu as well as the daily specials for that night. I ordered an old fashioned and it was pretty awesome, definitely made the correct way and super strong. They do have a good martini list and a average tap list. They have a good happy hour special list during the week as well. We had the fried pickles, they were pretty awesome a must have when you stop in. We also ordered two wood fired pizzas that were cooked perfect, the crust was a little light on seasoning and could have cooked for a little longer to crisp up the crust. Over all they were good, they don’t skimp on the toppings and they are a good size, we had left overs for the next day. Restaurant was very clean and the staff was friendly.

I had to come back and update this review. I always feel bad for giving local places negative feedback, so I’m generally willing to give it another go or two. Also, I appreciate that managers monitor their reviews. The smell I mentioned previously was nearly undetectable this time. The martini and old fashioned we ordered were spot on. The pizza was good, though a little light on seasoning. It was easy to tell that some elements of it were seasoned and others weren’t. Either way, I enjoyed my experience here. Our waitress was pleasant and helpful, and the overall experience was enjoyable. I want to make it back during happy hour and maybe for dinner. Their steak and fish options sounded delightful!

Dinner was a delight. We shared the Fried Cheesy Pickles as an appetizer. They were deep-fried and served like spring rolls, very tasty. Then for dinner we shared the Seafood Lavosh, a thin, crisp pizza, loaded with shrimp, scallops and veggies. It was delicious, and more than the two of us could finish. Service was excellent and the beer list is extensive. A good place for a date, not family friendly. Get a sitter! Highly recommended.

This place has great potential. The atmosphere was great and the wait staff was above par. The menu choices were semi-unique…an Elk or Lamb burger and a frog blt… to name few. Ordered the Elk burger… told that it’s served, medium rare to medium… it came out blue; the bun had burnt edges and that’s all I could taste… ruined the experience. The execution is in the details. Overall I’d recommend and I’d give it another try, just to sample the Frog blt. Good luck my friends… most will enjoy this place… huge alcohol selection.

This is a trendy little booze and eats joint with a definite hipster vibe. The seating area is spacious and vaguely urban industrial with a mild — yet lingering — smell of mildew that never quite fades into the background. Seating was prompt and service was slower than my Chicago girlfriend would’ve preferred, though it seems standard for this city. Apparently the servers access the outside patio through the front entrance, so that may be influencing the speed somewhat. They have a well balanced menu — great selection of martinis, good beer list and a good variety of foods. I had been craving a BLT and girlfriend chose their Mediterranean lamb burger. The balsamic soaked tomatoes in the BLT were a bit overwhelming and the bacon was very tough, but girlfriend’s burger was nicely spiced and the portions were generous. The sweet potato fries were awesome, as well. Not sure if I’d come back, but it was okay for a quick dinner.

I enjoy this place. They have the best chicken wings I have ever had. Spicy but not crazy, just perfect for flavor. Their menu is small & they have some very strange things on the menu but you won’t find it anywhere else in Bismarck. They make very good speciality drinks. A good place to come if you just want to have drinks with friends.

Great local cuisine. Caramelized onion mashed potatoes, martinis, and filet mignon were delicious. Pepperoni pizza was full of large chucks of pepperoni. Lemon vinaigrette was fabulous.

What raised The Toasted Frog from a three to a four is the art on the wall. All of it is for sale and it’s all quite interesting. Before all is said and done I may leave Bismarck(I travel here regularly) with some art from The Toasted Frog. The menu here is interesting. Everything from high end steaks and other ‘fancy’ dishes to burgers and pizza. The setting is comfortable. I love the high ceilings and the brick wall. The centerpiece of the restaurant is the bar and to the casual viewer, this is a bar. One would expect bar food, but as I said the menu offers so much more. That said, I found it difficult to order one of the main entrees because… the place seems like a bar. It doesn’t seem like a place that would serve haute cuisine. I ordered pizza to be safe, but the table across from me ordered the scallop appetizer and they seemed to enjoy it. One of them followed that with a filet and I have to say it looked delicious. Based on these observations, I’d say give those main entrees a try. I had the Bianco, which was topped with mozzarella, prosciutto and garlic. It was good. It didn’t stand up over time. By the time I was heading past the half way point, the pizza started to taste like a flavored cracker. It was good, but I don’t know that I’d try it again. Maybe if they had a smaller pizza for those who might dine alone — then I could finish it before it cools and loses it’s umph. The house wine is a great deal and the waitresses was very attentive and accommodating. I will be back. I might try a burger next time. I’ll be looking at the art on the walls more closely, too. Oh, and if you find yourself in Bismarck, give this place a try. The food is A-OK. The ambience is nice and the staff is friendly. I will be back.

So I have been to the location in East Grand Forks and have had great food and drinks there however at this location the steak I ordered was not that tasty and the service soso. It’s hard to match up to big brother sometimes…

We’re visiting Bismark, today, and I wanted something we don’t have in my city, and this sounds like our type of restaurant. The server we had was really nice to us. The Erath Pinot Noir,(an Oregon Vineyard). Yay! I ordered the Walleye Picatta, everything about it I liked, it came with Sweet Potato Fries. Husband ordered Wood-Fired Prime Rib Sandwich. He also was satisfied with his. Honestly, we didn’t even bother to check what the UnilocalERS said about this place, we just went, and we weren’t disappointed!

What can I say but I love The Toasted Frog… I’m biased however for working at the Grand Forks one when it opened. I love being able to visit the Bismarck one when I visit family and it feels like home. The atmosphere is great, modern and hip décor with interesting local art, friendly staff, and amazing food! I recommend the fried cheesy pickles, caprese salad, and any specials they have that night. They create unique and delicious seafood dishes that are out of this world and get fresh fish which is hard to do in the center of the continent. The Climax martini is awesome if you want something yummy and sweet. My friend Dave is a bartender there and he has many years of experience, very professional, friendly, and his very essence completes The Toasted Frog experience. I am proud of this restaurant and the whole franchise. It is a great place to work and experience as a customer! Check out the Grand Forks one and now there is even a Fargo one if you are in those cities. Great for casual or get all fancy, either way you will feel like royalty. Cheers! Great work guys! Keep the dream alive:) hmmm I’m gonna go there tonight!

I’ve visited this place twice since it’s opened. The first time was shortly after opening and it was a quick stop for appetizers and a couple drinks. Yesterday my wife and I went for dinner. It was happy hour and their prices were fair for the portions. The server was very polite and checked on us often. Prior to dinner I used the restroom and couldn’t believe what I saw. I felt like I was in a rest stop or truck stop bathroom. The smell was bad and the walls were carved up like you wouldn’t believe. It is far from what I expected for the type of restaurant they advertise. I expect this at a fast food restaurant but not at a place where we spent $ 100+. Not sure if we will go back but if we do we will definitely avoid the restrooms. Management, please invest in some paint and fix the bathrooms.

We decided to give the Toasted Frog a try based on Unilocal reviews. Many Unilocalers recommended the fried pickles– and they are legit! Even my colleague who doesn’t like pickles enjoyed them and has a few! I also ordered the elk burger. I figured when on the Great Plains, why not? It was delicious and a solid choice. Solid visit and choice when visiting Bismarck.

Great meal after a great trip to ND!!! The pork belly blueberry app was spot on! I had the pork tenderloin and it was cooked to perfection! The sides; green bean and sweet potato fries were fabulous. Our waitress was sweet and had my vodka soda always full! Would for sure come back if I ever find myself in ND again!

Was in Bismarck for a night and the bf and I found this place on Unilocal.First thing we noticed when we walked in: the horrid smell traveling through the restaurant. It smelt like straight up sewer and piss. The place was busy so we figured the food would be worth it. The menus were disgustingly sticky and it smelt like dirty rag that they wiped cafeteria tables with. Anyways… we started off with fried pickles which was the best part of our meal! It came with six(?) generous pieces. I ate three and I was already getting full. I ordered the portobello sandwich with fries and the bf ordered the asian ribs with garlic roasted potatoes. My sandwich was sloppy and soggy, I couldn’t even eat half of it. My bf’s ribs were drowned in sauce but were not bad. I would only come back for their fried pickles. To-go. Never dining in this stank place again.
