the guy steve does not how to do an alignment. im a local and I have had multiple bad alignments here. I’m a diy er so I don’t usually need auto work, alignments are pains, so I use a shop to do that for me. I brought in way out of spec and they were supposed align it, and they way I got it back was the same and even worse ! they left it they way it was. they did not check camber, or caster, only toe. they made it drive streight bt disregarded tire wear or handling, I came real close to loseing control and had my kids with me, I would never let a person drive with negative.09 camber on the right and negative .08 on the on the left. if your detailed and care about your property think about this because this is scary, my life was in there hand and I will not give it back to them, I don’t even want a refund I’m so disgusted. they did not even tell me anything like sorry we cant align it they just took my money .and let me almost wreck my hunting rig. I eyeballed my alignment after flyin off road, and it was actually drivein better than they way I got it back from mr k .if your a local go back to ur garage and u out of towners I feel sorry for. somebody sue them !!! auto tech is higher priced and will look at you all rude. so theres a locals outlook. I’m sure your find anyone helpful and caring when your in a bad position and you have no choice to pay what they charge.

Great and fast service. I got stuck in a snowbank at 2 AM, and a Mr K representative (I wish I remembered his name) was there 15-​minutes later! I called AAA, Mammoth Police, Highway Patrol, and none couldn’t come out. The Mr K representative pulled the car out with no damage within minutes and I was very lucky. Thanks again for the great and fast service.

Amazing customer service! Our battery died the day before Thanksgiving. They towed us, changed the battery, and cleaned some gunk off that needed cleaning happily and quickly. Fair prices and amazing service. Thanks Mr K’s!

These guys are SO SO nice and on it, they know the area like their backyards!
We were in the middle of nowhere trying to get to a hot springs when our rear tires became buried in soft sand after a wrong turn, AND sagebrush and other shrubbery were lodged up against the chassis of our car, rendering it completely immobilized. From the rear, the axle looked really wonky so the car looked screwed; the sun was setting so it was getting dark and cold; and we were nowhere near any identifiable roads so my friend and I were a little freaked out.
Luckily, we were half a mile from the hot springs (ie. other people and an identifiable location), and there was reception where we were, which is weirdly widely available all along the 395, whodathunk, so we called Mr. K’s, the only towing service listed on Unilocal that seemed open at the time (and also recommended by the fire dept whom we called first). It was very difficult to explain exactly where we were but we met the tow truck at the hot springs, found the car together and despite it being a difficult extraction they were able to get the car out of the dicey situation!
They were even able to diagnose what was going on with the axle, which wasn’t necessarily broken but did need a little patch up before we made the long drive back to LA the next day, and they quickly took care of it back at the shop.
When they initially told us the rate of towing/​service over the phone, it seemed kinda steep, especially since we were relatively far from Bishop (where they were coming from) and the rate was based on time spent on services including getting to where we were, but at the end of it all I would say it was totally reasonable and worth it to have such nice and knowledgeable people help you out in the middle of nowhere at a completely inconvenient hour.

They repaired my Ford diesel 7.3 L engine in two days. They were courteous and prompt and I highly recommend them for any diesel or automotive repair.

Always friendly and fast. The price for an oil change is very high compared to the price of an oil change in the bay area, but the service is second to none.

Perfect customer service. Never can make a complaint about this auto care center. Prices are always fair. Service is quick. Quality of workmanship is excellent.

I don’t remember the name of the gentleman who came out to help me (it was yesterday morning). My battery appeared to have died when I was parked at Von’s so I called up AAA (worth every penny and I’m cheap). On an early Sunday morning in a small town like Bishop, I didn’t think ANYONE would come! To my surprise within 20 minutes or so, an employee from Mr K’s came and restarted my battery.
It took awhile to get it to restart (I was shitting bricks I had to have a ton of work done at this point…) but he got it to work. He then gave me advice on where to go to have tests run in town.
If I lived in Bishop, Mr. K would be where I would go for sevice =)

First of all, we decided to try out a used car my husband recently purchased to go from L. A to Reno to visit my sister over Easter and Spring Break week. Our 1999 Chevrolet Blazer made it but the uphill climbs pushed the old car to its limit we thought since it was slow moving even in 3^rd gear. While in Reno, it gave us no problems so we thought we just drove it too far in one day (10+ hours one-​way). When we left Reno, we were headed to Death Valley National Park for a day and half of exploring with the kids, and then on to L.A.
As fate would have it, we never made it to Death Valley. It was actually a blessing in disguise. The old car starting to decrease rapidly in speed about 7 miles outside of Bishop. I managed to pull over to the side of the road safely and put it in park. It turned off immediately by itself. We were stranded but AAA came to the rescue in what seemed to us the middle of nowhere! AAA towed the vehicle and us to Mr K Automotive Service. Chris told us it was almost 5 pm and closing time so they will diagnose the car in the morning. So just like National Lampoon’s Vacation, we took our duffle bags & backpacks from the car and walked Main Street until we found a reasonably priced motel. What a group of lost tourists we must of looked like!
The next morning, Vance told us it was the fuel pump and it would need to be replaced. However, the part would have to be shipped from another supplier and it would arrive the next day. At that moment, we told him to go ahead and order the part. After much discussion later, we changed our minds because unbeknownst to Mr K, we actually had an 80^th birthday party to attend on Friday night back in L.A. and this was Thursday morning. This was my father’s birthday party and I did not want to miss it. The time factor and the quote given to repair was too high so we decided to rent a U-​Haul truck with a towing trailer for a third of the cost.
I am giving Mr K such a high rating because I called them, explained our situation and told them we will not be utilizing their services. However, we would need their help in getting the Blazer up the U-​Haul trailer and would they help us? When we arrived with the U-​Haul and trailer, they directed us to park along the side of their business. Vance and the other staff (it took about 6 men) to push our Blazer up on that trailer ramp. The younger staff then assisted with securing it down. We fully expected them to charge us for this but they said everything is fine! So I offered to write a great Unilocal Review!
Because of the integrity of the people who work there, I am recommending Mr K Automotive Service to anyone who needs service on their vehicles! They really helped us since we were in a jam. Thanks Mr K!

There is no such thing as an honest repair shop, or so I thought before discovering Mr. K’s. These guys will fix what needs to be fixed and not add on service you don’t need.
Like every single auto service shop out there, they aren’t perfect. I’d give most of the mechanics a super solid three stars, but the place gets an extra star because if the repair is not done right they’ll make it right. As well, Vance, the owner (?), is a super nice guy.
This, and Bishop Automotive are my go to shops. Mr K’s for service and general repairs, and Bishop automotive for tires and alignment. Marsh’s Automotive is also a well respected shop, a good place to get heavy work done.
At all costs avoid Perry Motors – pay to have your car towed to LA or Reno rather than let them touch your vehicle.
You can be confident that Mr. K’s will provide you service that takes care of your needs and nothing more (which is a good thing).

We got stuck in some deep mud while heading fishing, Bob was the first person we called. He said he would be here in roughly 45 minutes, he got here in half the time. Assessed the situation and pulled us out in no time. He was super cool timely and professional and gave us a good deal. Just want to say thanks to Bob.

This shop is amazing. Friendly staff, no gouging, clear communication… it is absolutely the best auto shop I’ve ever been to. We deal with them about once a month (old cars and offroading will do that) for towing and repairs on our 1981 24 foot RV.
We just had our RV in because it was dying on uphills a bunch. After spending an entire morning on diagnosing the problem, they had me come in, explained the problem (vapor lock) and because it wasn’t something they could really fix, they didn’t even ask for any money! What?! I tipped the mechanic (Milton, excellent guy) and once again ensured I’ll always give them my frequently reoccurring business.

My boyfriend and I called Mr. K Automotive late on a Tuesday night after an unexpected snow storm had left our car stranded 10 – 15 miles up a dirt road on a mountain. We were fully expecting to be told that they would consider towing it in the morning, but instead we were helped immediately that Tuesday night, which allowed us to make our original flights the next day. Though we hit tough road conditions along the way to retrieve the car (sharp turns on snow-​covered roads, which required both four wheel drive and chains on the tires), nothing held them up or even seemed to particularly faze them. Their service was prompt, friendly and efficient, and they really went above and beyond in a time when my boyfriend and I needed the help. I would definitely recommend their service.

I, as I am sure many other people do, lost my keys while skiing. I called Mr K’s and really had no idea what to do. I drive a large truck that requires a micro-​chipped key, and do not have a spare (stupid I know). Anyways, no more than 10 minutes after calling Bob showed up and in about 15 minutes had my truck up on a Dolly and we were on the way back to his shop.
I rode in his truck which was warm and comfortable (it was snowing and freezing outside) and we chatted amicably the whole way down to Mr K’s. On the way, he pointed me in the direction of a locksmith who would be able to help me get a new key (Mammoth lock and key based in Lake Crowley). He then let me keep my truck in the yard overnight and at about 8am the next day I had new keys and was driving out of their lot.
Their service was absolutely incredible, prompt, friendly, professional, I could not think any more of this company and the way they do business. I would give them 6 stars if I could. Thanks Bob, thanks Mr. K’s!

What can I say. As you can see from their other reviews these guys are THE place in Bishop if you need work done on your vehicle. They even have their own tow trucks and will come and get you!!!
Anyway, my wife and I were out on a dirt trail on death valley road when my right rear leaf spring snapped off just behind the front hanger. somehow i managed to get it back onto the pavement, then another 10 miles down the road so we could get cell service. My wife found Mr. K through Unilocal reviews so we gave them a call. They came and got us and were able to get a used spring for my truck so I could at least get it home (livermore ca.) and take care of repairs myself since it has mostly custom parts. They definitely saved our bacon as my wife and i had to be back to work the following week. I was a little worried as the part took a few days to get there and the day was already half over on friday, but their mechanic Milton knocked it out before the end of the day!!! He did a kick ass job, and we made it home without a hitch!!! Thanks again guys!!!
So, if you break down or need any repairs make sure to check these guys out. The work is great, they’re all very friendly, and they don’t try to gouge you on price either!!! You can trust them!!! From now on, Mr. K Automotive will be my go to place for repairs since I spend a fair amount of vacation time in this area. Don’t even think about calling anyone else!!! 5 SOLID STARS!!!

The guys at Mr K are amazing. I broke down while road-​tripping with my 7 year old son — an experience that could have been traumatic but ended up being a fun adventure with some of the nicest folks I’ve met in a long time. I called them in distress (of course breakdowns happen on Sundays at 5 PM) and Nick and Bob were extremely helpful. They went out of their way to make sure everything was all right, spent a lot of time helping us and making sure we were okay. By the time we were done towing from a very remote spot it was almost midnight, and Nick arranged a motel for me and my son, dropped us off, went to unload the car…
Next morning I stop by Mr. K at 8:00 AM — they have fixed it. Shrugged it off as if it was a minor thing and did not accept payment. I won’t even tell you what the tow cost because you wouldn’t believe me — these are amazingly nice people who are more than willing to help you out when you must need it. My son raves about his experience driving in the truck with Nick and we had great conversations on the importance of helping others and paying it forward.

When I needed a new fuel filter and oil change for my diesel Jeep I stupidly tried Autotech first, thinking it was affiliated with Steve’s Auto Parts, where I’ve received great customer service in the past. After getting an estimate of $ 60 (WTF?!) for labor alone for the oil change I told the guy at the shop he was trying to ream me (I know for a fact that I can change my oil in less time than he was quoting me). He refused to work on my car at all and I headed over to Mr K, which is walking distance from my house.
The staff was extremely helpful and gave me the same quote for the fuel filter change plus a more reasonable quote of $ 35 for oil and labor (I had the filter). I dropped my car off in the morning the next day and when I picked it up was happy to find that the fuel filter was $ 10 less than the original estimate. Make that another 5-​star reviews for Mr K.

Only 13 miles from mammoth lakes town, their employee pulls my car out of the mud of lake Crowley, the total cost is 477.40. My friend recommend mr. k due to its normal price is around 80 bucks, but I am not sure why their employee does not show me the charging standard and charge me so much. As far as I know it is so expensive, I will definitely choose another company to help or at least let me know how much I should pay first. I hope it is not because I am a foreign traveler here. Really disappointed!
