I used McCorquodale Transfer because I had some valuable antique furniture that I wanted to receive special care. They damaged several items(some looked like water damage though it was not raining that day!!!) and broke the marble top on an antique chest. They did not want me to get an estimate on the repairs – oh no, they had their own special guy who could repair everything. He came out and started running all over the house spraying something out of a can on all the furniture with water damage and some things that weren’t even damaged, before I stopped him. Then he took my marble top, which was in two pieces, and returned a few days later with it glued back together. There was glue all over the marble, the two pieces did not line up and all – it looked like a 6 year old had done it. It would have been comical if it had not been a cherished heirloom. I tried to contact the owner numerous times during this period and when I was able to get through to him he gave me the complete runaround. It finally took a letter from an attorney to get him to pay for a new marble top, but of course the same type of marble is not available anymore which was a huge disappointment, and the water spots are still on my furniture. Run from these people!

I’m disgusted. Broke my grandmother’s table, showed no remorse, ignored phone calls, offered $ 30 on the $ 1200 estimate we got to fix the table. Details below. McCorquodale was recommended to me, and I used them on 2 occasions. The first was to move a piano — no significant issues, but I felt like the movers acted almost irritated with us, and that they dragged the move out to take more than the time necessary(the piano was moved ¼ of a mile, involving no stairs or difficulties, and we were charged for over their minimum charge time of one hour — by my clock it took 1 hour and 10 minutes from the time they left headquarters). I have no idea why I used them a second time, I should have listened to my gut, but we were moving things that were important to me and I didn’t have any problems with the way they had actually handled my piano. The second time the movers seemed careless. One of the items we had them move was a table, handed down to me by my grandmother. The movers turned it on its side, allowing the slate center to slip out and break. No apologies, just mention of how he had thought it was glued in and that it was charcoal, not slate. We were told to get an estimate to fix the table, which we did by taking a broken piece to a stoneworker(who confirmed it was slate). After providing that estimate to McCorquodale we were offered $ 30 — the estimate was for $ 1200. My biggest issue was in how things were handled after the break. I understand that things happen(especially when you are careless), but I expect people to stand behind their actions and to demonstrate integrity when things go wrong. One mumbled sort-of apology with a shrug of the shoulders as the workers were leaving, being told the table wasn’t worth anything by the workers, and such an insulting amount offered to fix the table by the owner. AND, the workers had me sign something saying that the damages would be covered at 30 cents per pound AFTER it had been broken. The worker said that signing was to indicate that the move was complete, that they may be covering damages at 30 cents per pound but that if we got an estimate and it was worth more the owner would handle it. He was callous enough to mention that it was only«nicer furniture» that was covered over the $ 0.30/lb. I was devastated, and shouldn’t have signed — that’s on me, but I’m disgusted that the owner did not even attempt to fix the problem. He didn’t even return any of our phone calls for MONTHS. So disgusted. With the carelessness and the apathy.

Some friends in Liberty Park sold us their dining room suite, treadmill, and stationary bike. While David and a friend planned to move everything with a rental truck, I hired McCorquodale to speed up the time. David and Robert were prompt and hard working. They got the job done in 2 hrs and my husband worried it may take 3 – 4 hrs! All of our new furniture was well taken care of and I have these guys to thank for it. Don’t look any further Birmingham, these are the locally owned movers you will want to hire!
