We were finally up in Big Bear on the right weekend, perfect conditions and no other scheduled activities to take advantage of the Young Eagles Program for my daughter. Our friends Roxann and Don(Don is a pilot) had told us a few years ago about the program and invited us to participate. This year, everything lined up! We arrived around 8:30 am, and there were already several families there signed up and ready to go. Roxann was surprised to see us and of course we held a little reunion since its been a couple years. She helped us get the forms we needed to sign up my daughter. Our son was too young to participate.(but well be back when he is old enough.) The entire staff were very friendly, knowledgeble and answered all of our questions. Check out these links for some additional information: The Young Eagles program is held at the Airport and flys on the second Saturday of each month from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., May through September. This is a wonderful experience for young flyers. KIDSFLYFREE!

Great place! I brought a group of 30 motorcycles. It’s always tough to handle such a large group, but they did great. The owner brought us coffee while we waited for our tables, and sat us as quickly as possible. The group of waiters did a wonderful job getting our orders and delivered to us as soon as the kitchen could process them. With a group that large, service is the biggest concern. We couldn’t have asked for better service. The food was wonderful also. Great menu selection. I had the French toast combo, which was excellent.

Cute airport. But definitely haunted. There used to be a chineese restaurant and country bar upstairs, but it is deserted now except for the overpriced barnstorm café. Great air show in August. Otherwise mostly non eventful.

Great small town airport. This is what general aviation is all about! The lighted runway is 5850 feet in length but be sure you have the ability to get out. The field elevation is 6752. I have seen the density altitude get up to 9,300 feet! The fee for transient parking can’t be beaten; it is free! The fuel prices are about as low as you can find in SoCal. Just be sure if you top of the tanks you can get out. I have seen a few planes get off the ground and just stay in ground effect until they have an «off airport landing.» During business hours if you call unicom while still about 10 minutes out, they will call a taxi for you and you will not have to wait for your ride. The Barnstormer café is average for breakfast, but the dinners are where the place shines. Also you can have an excellent view of the tarmac and runway areas while you dine. For training purposes this is an excellent airport for your high altitude checkouts. There is also a flight school on the field and I have done checkouts and rented from them. The company seems to change on a bi-annual to tri-annual basis but there is always one on premises. You can purchase some charts in the office and if needed get a rental car too.

Great small town airport. Friendly staff who are standing by to offer advice. No outrageous fees. If you are flying over, this is a great place to stop in.

Great airport to fly in. Low fuel price, friendly airport workers, and good restaurants. When I flew in last time for over night parking, airport workers were willing to help me to get a cab and car rental. Very pleasant folks.

Incredibly friendly and helpful staff. Extremeley well maintained and very long runway and ramp areas. Cheapest avgas in So Cal. There are several places to dine both on the airport and within a short walking distance. Taxi and rental cars are available.

Fun place to visit — even if you don’t fly in. but I highly recommend flying. Have breakfast at Barnstorm Café, the airport restaurant, and order the blueberry, cream-cheese stuffed french toast.
