I’m frightened to post this review of Mowers as I’m afraid they will use it against me and raise their rates.
These guys are giving you a $ 100 quality haircut usually only found in Boston shops for only $ 17 bucks. Tip them generously!

Great barber shop… Been getting my hair cut by Jay for a long time !
John is top notch also. You can’t go wrong with either of them.

I love the old school punk rock they play & the low-​key atmosphere.
I had Christina cut my hair once, came out OK & decided to have her do a little trim before Christmas.
BIG mistake!!!
Every morning, screaming & crying, trying to style the mess on my head.
Completely lopsided cut. One section is down to the scalp & the next looks like it hasn’t been cut. Disaster!
Go ahead & try Mower’s Barbershop, just have one of the guys cut your hair.

Great spot, highly recommended. Can’t beat the price, atmosphere, or quality. I almost didn’t want to share this place cause I would hate if it got to busy, but then I’d be doing everyone a mis-​justice. I have been going to mowers ever since they opened. This was my first change in barber in over 15 years. They give the best haircuts around. I also bring my 4 & 5 year old to get cuts there and they love the place!

Jay and John both listen to what you want and have the skill to cut hair for guys who are very particular. I am really happy to have found this place.
Call ahead on Saturdays, it could be really busy.

Thank you to Christina for giving our 2 year old twins, McSquirmy and McScreamy, their first haircut. Both cuts were handsome, age appropriate and fit their individual hair types. Christina was very patient and flexible. Thank you to the owner for encouraging us embarrassed parents that our McScreamy’s reaction was perfectly normal especially since our son was laughing and saying «fun haircut» 5 minutes after we were out the door. There were at least 3 kids who got their haircut while we were there and everyone had an individual cut that they looked happy with.

Jay’s been my barber since I moved to the North Shore in 2006 and has always done a great job. He’s professional and funny — a good guy to shoot the breeze with.
Now I bring my 3 year old son regularly. Jay does a great job on kids’ cuts– very patient and good-​natured with them. Highly recommend you check out Mower’s and the other barbers there a good people, too.

My encounter with the owner was not pleasant. He is gruff, crude and rude. While waiting for a cut owner insulted people and refused to provide services based on a cough. The gentleman didn’t seem sick or anything just coughed and the owner refused service.

Mowers is great, so great I am writing my first Unilocal review in years. Great haircut, great people, great atmosphere.

After looking at many different places online and seeing a lot of reviews my boyfriend and I decided that Mowers looked like a good choice. My boyfriend was trying out a completely new haircut and Jay was more than willing to try it out, even though he admitted to not working with long hair often. He was friendly and professional. My boyfriend was really satisfied with the way his hair turned out and when he handed him a $ 20, Jay gave him $ 10 back (haircuts for men are $ 17), presumably because it was his first time there/​he had told him about his upcoming birthday. My bf will definitely be back!

I’ll start of by saying that I got an awesome haircut from Mowers. I’m someone who regularly visits a supercuts like place and has never paid too much attention to going to the local barber. I decided to try something new and it worked out. As a first-​timer, they did a superb job of making me feel comfortable and figuring out what I wanted. On top of that the owner Jay is a real stand up dude who showed a lot of class after dealing with a customer who was harassing me and others while we waited. A sign of Good ownership. I will definitley be going back.

These guys are awesome! Nicest guys in the world and they do a great job. I highly recommend them. Important to know, it’s cash only and all walk ins. Cool spot, good tunes, good conversation.

Good tunes, and even better haircuts. Great classic haircuts every time, and you’re always greeted when you walk through the door. No egos here. Just a relaxing place to get cleaned up.

As a woman who wears her hair short I get tired of walking into a salon and hearing the stylist tell me that I’m, «soooo brave» for wearing a short trendy hipster hair cut more often seen on men than women. Stop being patronizing. It’s frigging hair, it grows back. I’d like to enjoy cutting my hairs into styles that are fun while I’m young enough to enjoy it.
I have bumped from salon to salon around the north shore in the last 15 years. I’ve never been particularly happy with the cuts. Occasionally, I’d meet a stylist who was excited to cut something short on a woman and I’d leave with a cut that I loved. I’d go back and that excellent stylist would be gone. Then I’d leave with an inferior haircut. After walking past Mower’s for over a year I finally said, «eff it» and walked in. Yeah, it’s a kind of manly place. It doesn’t smell cloyingly sweet or like rancid bleach. Instead, there is a jukebox and tattooed men with scissors and trimmers.
I was seated and explained what I was looking for and how long it had been since my hair had been cut. Jay explained the guards he uses on his trimmers and that it is shorter than I’m used to, everything made sense. Conversation was professional and funny, I laughed a lot. He showed me how to style it then explained the products to use.
The cut is in a word, perfect. For the first time in my long varied history of having my hair cut short, Jay worked with how my hair works naturally. Now when I put product in it, I’m not fighting the natural pattern of my hair. A little pomade and a brush and I’m good to go.
This was, shockingly, my first visit to a barber shop and it won’t be my last.
Going from shaggy to short was $ 17, cash only, and worth every penny.

The owner Jason, makes everyone who walks through the door feel extremely welcome. I’ve never been to a barber shop that provides each person with such awesome customer service. If you haven’t been here it is an absolute must. Aside from Jason’s contagious attitude, he also gives an incredible haircut. If you haven’t been, your missing out on great sports memorabilia, good music, great conversations and awesome vibes. There are no other barber shops around the North Shore that even come close…

Mowers Barbershop is an all-​around, great barber shop. Jonnie, who recently switched from Wilfred’s barber shop up in Nashua, is great at classic cuts and fades. I would highly recommend him for anyone looking for a classic combover.

My go to spot for the best cut on the North Shore. Wether you’re a trendy hipster or Beverly Farms retiree, Jay has a chair for you. These guys make you feel right at home, and at $ 17 for a cut the price is great for the quality they put in and the advice they give you to keep you looking sharp. Great to support a local Barber Shop, and I’m convinced they know what they’re doing! Oh, and they have a great bathroom.

I’m surprised Mowers isn’t on Unilocal yet! Anyways, I’m a Montserrat student and Mowers opened up right around the corner from us a little over a year ago, between Maria’s Pizza and Atomic Café. Since then, Montserrat students frequent the place and Jay Mower gives a good discount to students. It’s not your typical classic barber shop, Jay has lots of tattoos but there’s a bunch of sports memorabilia around, as you would expect.
