This salon is really great. The staff is friendly and like to have fun and know there stuff. It seems that a lot of other review are being filtered to the non recommended section and they are worth reading. It seems that only the negative stuff stays bit definitely read all three reviews and check this salon out to will not be sorry you did.

I scheduled a deluxe facial for 75 minutes. They finished in 50 minutes and tried to charge the full price. I had to request extractions to be done even though it was listed in the description. By that time, the final serums had been applied so they were done out of order. I’ve had several facials over the years and this was the most abrasive.

Christopher is awesome! He cuts my whole family’s hair and he does so well with all of us. My 10 ½ yo actually requests to get his hair cut now. Christopher is incredibly talented and awesome to work with.

I must first start by saying that I am NOT a fan of waxing or facials. I do not like pain and I am too impatient to wait for pampering. I decided to try out a facial and waxing today with Shahla and it was FANTASTIC. First, I have a a relatively hairy chest and it did not hurt(much) and much less than I thought. She too the time to ensure that we got all the hair and that I understood how to take care of my skin afterwards. Shahla worked with me and my sensitive skin to identify the perfect facial products for me and it was soooo relaxing that I fell asleep a few times. I made an appointment to come back and I will treat myself to this experience monthly. Manscaping! I am hooked.

Been getting my hair done by Patricia for years — since before Citrine was Citrine — and she is great. I have even delighted in the spa services a few times and the Swedish/deep tissue work was relaxing and restorative. The hardest part is finding time for a cut in my crazy day. I don’t understand some of these older reviews, nothing but good times and experiences here. Keep up the good work Citrine.

Have been going here for years. Always walk out with a great haircut, and have a relaxing and lovely experience while there. Chairs are comfy, stylists and all staff are friendly… scalp massage during shampoo is heavenly.

Patricia’s Brazilian Blowouts have changed my life! It normally takes me 20 – 30 minutes to dry and flat iron my hair. For a few months after the blowout, that is reduced to 5 min – blow dry the front with a round brush, flip my head over until it is all blown dry and I’m done. I’ve referred a couple of friends to Patricia. One gets blowouts, color and cut and the other just gets cuts and color. They’re both really pleased with her work. Great customer service. Citrine has been written up in Allure magazine for their facials. And I think they were just named Best of Bethesda for this year too.

I would recommend everyone check out. this salon and spa. I get haircuts with Patricia, the owner, and my hair always looks great! She understands how I like my hair and styles it perfectly. The products she uses in my hair make it flow smoothy and look healthy and shiny. I also got a facial with Jacqueline. She was very gentle and friendly. She assessed my skin concerns by asking me several questions and she even taught me a few new things about skin care. The facial I received consisted of several creams, cleaners, steam, scrub, neck/shoulder massage, and acne/blackhead removal. The facial left my skin feeling brand new. I highly recommend this salon and spa.

I have used a few different stylists here, and every time I get one I like, they leave… it may be because their boss Patricia(a stylist and owner) could not be ruder to the staff, especially the shampoo girls and receptionists. I purposely watch her interact with them every time I am there and she never disappoints! She is cold toward the clients, and her bad attitude and SHORT temper keeps the staff acting like they are on egg shells with each other. I stopped going here because all the good stylists left for other salons, and its pretty much an accumulation of sub par stylists at this point. This place may be a little less expensive than Aveda or one of the other salons on Bethesda Ave. However, in the end, I will pay a little more to be in an atmosphere where there is no «elephant in the room» and patrons can enjoy their experience.

I get the best cut, color and style from Grazia. She gives great advice on what will work best with your skin color and face shape so you walk away with the most flattering look! She takes the time to understand what you want — or if you are like me and are not sure, she suggests great options. I always leave feeling great about my cut and color!

I’ve been going to Citrine for four years. I started seeing Patricia on the recommendation of a good male friend and was pleased to find out she did an excellent job with women’s hair as well. At first Citrine was close to work and a great salon, now I drive 45 minutes to have my hair done here because it is a great salon. The customer service is fantastic and friendly and I have never been disappointed with a haircut! I have recommended countless friends go to Citrine and everyone has gone back. If you are looking for a reasonably priced top-quality salon I would recommend checking it out.

This review is about Gustavo, very talented stylist. My hair is extremely curly and at times can be hard to manage. Finding a stylist who knows how to deal with thick hair can be challenging. Like all, I’ve had terrifying experiences with past hair stylist. Gustavo was able to asses my hair and recommended a conditioning treatment and the perfect color for my highlights. He is great at determining color and cut. Most recently he did the Brazilian treatment on my younger sister and it turned out amazing. Also, he is a great listener and understands what his customers want. My hair glows thanks to him!

I came to Citrine because I recently relocated to Bethesda and it is a short walk from my apartment. Although it only had 6 reviews, they were predominantly all good save a couple bad reviews surrounding cuts. I needed to refresh my highlights and wanted to go a bit lighter in preparation for summer. When I called, I was quoted«$ 115 for full highlights» and was told that a blow dry was included with the service — so I was a bit weirded out when I was asked more than once if I was getting a blow dry, but I figured maybe some people prefer to leave a salon with dripping wet hair, right? WTF Anyway — I sat down with Nadine and told her what I wanted, and she listened and suggested I do the full highlight plus a toner(I have NEVER been to a place and received highlights WITHOUT a toner, so I said. well yes, of course, a toner.) The chairs for washing were nice because they had a foot rest — but there was so little room between the foot rest and wall in front that while people were constantly walking back and forth in front of me I had to keep pulling my feet up so they weren’t bumping into me the entire time. I felt awful that I couldn’t tip the shampoo girl who gave me an AWESOME scalp massage because I didn’t have cash and they do NOT allow you to put tip on the card. They say they«can’t» — this is bullsh|t, they can, they just don’t WANT you to. I worked at a salon, I know how it goes, but I’m sorry, not only was I not prepared for the price I paid but I also went very short notice and I never carry cash. Whatever. The good news — the color turned out nice. The bad news: the blow dry that WASN’T included was $ 40 and was painful to endure. She only had a boar brush and ONE size round hollow brush(1 or 1.5″ maybe?) which was small and not really getting the job done. I had to ask her to use a different brush since the boar was literally ripping the hair out of my head and the blowdry was taking forever. I was this | – | close to telling her to forget it, I’d just finish it at home, but I wanted to see the color before I left. Which brings me to my main point — at check out, I was quoted $ 180. This is completely unacceptable. when I asked for a break down, I was told the highlights were $ 115, the toner was $ 25, and the blow dry was $ 40. I was pretty livid. I don’t mind paying extra for a toner but a) you should be upfront about it being additional and b) there’s no reason a toner should cost $ 25. I was told a blow dry is included with a cut but NOT color, after I was told making my appointment that it WAS included. Why?! It’s just as important to see a cut styled dry as it is to see your color dry! Who walks out of a salon with a head full of wet hair! Completely asinine! What if the color had come out awful? What, was I supposed to go home, dry my own hair, then call back to report any mishaps?! The woman at the front desk apologized not-so-sincerely and gave me a $ 10 credit for any FUTURE service, as if I would EVER come back. Which is a shame — because I had no problem with the stylist(outside of the brutal blow dry). I had to leave Nadine’s tip as a check and again, I apologize to the woman who gave me my shampoo but I wasn’t about to write a $ 5 check and I was so pissed off at that point I wasn’t going to go get cash to come back. I just wanted to get home and down a glass of wine or five and vent to my roommate who paid half as much for just as nice highlights from Bubbles a block further away. That’s where I will go next time. Peace out, Citrine.

I wasn’t going to write this review, because I figure everyone can have bad days, but then a friend told me she’d had the same experience. To begin with the positive — you’ll get a great shampoo here! And the staff are friendly to the clients, though they seem a little short with each other. BUT, and here’s why I’m writing the review, Mariana gave me The Worst haircut I’ve ever had. I specifically asked for texture, and she cut it blunt. I asked to have my highlights moved into a darker range than I’d had them for summer, and she left me light blonde. I asked for bangs(which I already had) and she styled it so they were only at the edge of my face. It looked great when I came out of the salon, but turned out to be the most unmanageable cut in terms of home care. My hair is fine and tends to be dry, so I don’t wash it every day(I told here that) but on the morning of Day 2 this cut left me set to audition for the Addams Family. So, maybe it was just a bad day. Or maybe Mariana’s strength isn’t cutting. Or maybe. .. whatever, I’m going to another salon now — and got a great cut the first time.

Coming from NY and going to the same hair dresser for 8 years, I was REALLY nervous about getting my haircut in the region. I had tried appointments at Partners PR and some location on U Street and both times, my hair came out disastrous(too short, unruly after first shampoo, etc.). I checked out Citrine after a referral from a friend who has hair that’s always changing but still stylish and sexy(you know the type — first she has bangs, then 3 months later she doesn’t and she has cute layers, then 4 months later her hair is a little longer and pin straight, etc.). So, upon her recommendation, I happily and eagerly checked out RIT and afterwards went to him for about two years. The 3 stars for Citrine is directly for the cuts I received from Rit. I thought the prices were slightly more expensive than I anticipated, but for the most part, it was worth it for the consistency of the sytlist. I had a short haircut for a while. With shorter hair, you can really see the work that goes into the cutting. With Rit, I felt like the cut was always related to the kind of day he had. If I had a night appt. and he was tired, it was so-so. If it was mid-afternoon on a Saturday and sunny, then when I left my hair looked slightly chicer(if that’s a word) and glossy. Don’t get me wrong, my hair never looked bad but I definitely noticed the times when he ‘thinned it out’ or styled it more. Anyway, I stopped going because I live in Arlington and I decided the drive wasn’t worth it for the hit or miss and price. He’s VERY good with color, but my hair is longer now and I haven’t been coloring it so I have been experimenting with more local people to save time. Back to the color though — I have to say again that he is REALLY good. Whenever I got the color done, the shading and highlights were outstanding. I always got compliments, even weeks and months(!) afterwards about how great the color of my hair is … and most of the time the question was, «Is it natural?» — You know the colorist is good when people think it’s natural. Last note about the comments here. Keepingitreal mentioned that they noticed that some reviews of a certain stylist have disappeared … insinuating something shady. How can the first person to leave a review notice that other reviews have disappeared? I’m confused. Unless a first review is deleted and then the next person in line gets bumped to «First Review.» Is that possible? I don’t know. All I’m saying is that personally I pay attention to what people write but I’m always cautious of others’ credibility.
