This place is truly a gem. We had no idea when going there what a treat we were in for. To start with we both ordered salads, small ones, a Cobb and a Greek. They were very large, could easily be shared by 3 people. Both of these salads were some of the best we ever tasted. We saw many, many repeat customers as the staff seemed to know them. The staff are great, food portions are very large. You may want to make a reservation. People were happy with their food.

I made reservations 3 weeks before New a year’s Eve for 8 people at 8:15 and we’re were guaranteed that my request to be seated in the back room would be honored.(The main room is always very cold.) When we arrived we were told that no tables were available in either of the two back rooms and that the only table for 8 was the one right next to the kitchen, where all servers are in and out serving food. So we had no choice but to endure this. Things deteriorated from there. We were given five menus… o.k., we can share. After about 15 minutes our drink orders were taken, and we were short two drinks. We caught the server,(not literally, of course,) and she brought the one glass of wine but totally forgot the martini. When we reminded her that she didn’t bring it, she said she forgot and then brought the wrong kind. We ordered the Greek salad and our entrees, one of which was simply the pea soup; but another 15 minutes passed before the salad was brought to the table, which we finished very quickly. Then… it was another 1 hour and 50 minutes(yes 1 hour and 50 minutes is not a typo) before our entrees arrived. The goulash, their signature dish, was delivered without the mashed potatoes, as advertised on the menu. When we asked the server about them, she said they had run out of potatoes! It’s not like potatoes are a highly perishable item, and besides, there are 3 chain grocery stores within a half mile away. Apparently someone was woefully inept when ordering, and no one was willing to make a trip to a very nearby store to rectify the error. Additionally, pea soup was not served until after another 20 minutes and we reminded the server about this. By the time it arrived, most of us had already finished a good bit of our entrees. After all, they had to know how many reservations they had accepted! We had no time to order dessert, as it was already about 11:00 P.M. and we wanted to be together at one of our homes some miles away to have some champagne to welcome in the New Year. When my husband spoke to the Lana as we were leaving and relayed the above situation, she said, «I’m sorry, but it is New Years Eve! Is there ever an excuse for such ineptness? I think not! Chef George has just lost some very regular patrons!

This is an excellent restaurant which not only exceeds expectations to please the palate but also makes you feel that you’ve just come home to dine with family! Every dish is fabulous… Guaranteed most will take home an extra meal as the portions are enormous… And delicious! But, bet you can’t finish it and will have a «doggie bag» for the next day. Loved the Service but it is slow European style but well worth the wait!

Even if the food weren’t delicious, which it is, I would come for the service. Lana is the best hostess/waitress/chef’s wife that ever was. Try the chicken paprikash, it’s decadent. I don’t even like Greek salad and I ate a huge plate. My wine glass was never empty and I never stopped smiling and laughing. I felt like I was in Hungary and maybe I’d be invited to their house or something– so homey and genuine! The place itself is very unassuming, but the quality left nothing to be desired. Wonderful! Thank you! :-)

A desert gem. Great food. Huge portions. Good times. Service varies from bland to incredibly animated servers. Warning: salads should be shared. Crowd tends to be older if that matters to you, but if you’re a true foodie you’ll dig the vibe.

What a wonderful local GEM… Hubby ordered the stuffed cabbage. we shared the Greek Salad and I ordered the Mushroom soup. OMG… every bite was over the top. We didn’t have room for the Apple Strudel… But, we will be going back. We recommend Chef George’s and you will fall in love with Lana…

The best meal we’ve had in Palm Springs. We have been coming to the area each year for the past four years and just founds Georges. The place crushes it. Despite being in a shoppibg center with Carl’s Jr across the lot as soon as you step in you’re transported to another place. Tapestries on the wall(in the fashion of renaissance erotica!) fancy wooden seats with leather trim, high end place settings, and black carpet. The prices will shock you but youll get over it when you realize everthing is family style. The food is fantastic. The small greek salads very good — feeds 4 easy, is a mile high pile of crisp shredded romaine, fresh feta, snappy cucumbers and some olives. The stuffed cabbage rolls we’re the best I’ve ever had. And I basically eat them everywhere they’re on the menu. The meat was perfectly flavored, moist, but firm so that it doesn’t crumble when you cut it. The sauce was exceptional — i asked for extra bread to sop it all up! Comes with mashed and broccoli which go well with then dish. We ordered a chicken plate with spaghetti and potatoes for the kids. They charged kids meal prices but the food was probably the richest, most flavorful kids meal they have had. Very sweet buttery potatoes and noodles. And the chicken was pounded thin and seared crispy. That plate fed two small children and some leftovers!!! We finished off with the strudel and ice cream. Mmm. Soooooo good! Honestly not a bad tasting morsel the entire meal. Can’t wait to go back — planning next years Palm Springs trip already.

Well, what can you expect from a place in a strip mall, sandwiched in between a thrift store and a sushi bar? In this case, a lot! «Old-world» décor with Tiffany lamps and pictures all over the walls. Soft music playing in the background. The ever-ebullient Lana waved us in with a «Come in! Come in!» like we were old friends. And carefully-folded cloth napkins. Yay! This a European restaurant, so don’t expect any burgers or nachos, OK? My wife started off with mushroom soup, which was absolutely delicious! Made with heavy cream, it was spectacular. She let me have a couple of bites and then wanted the rest for herself. I skipped getting soup because I wanted to save room for apfelstrüdel. She decided on the Sea Bass but I chose the Hungarian Goulash. Oh! The meat was so tender I couldn’t just stab a piece with my fork but had to scoop it up from underneath. It just fell apart in my mouth. Superb! It came with potatoes that apparently were not mashed(which breaks down the texture into mush) but properly riced. A small portion of shredded red cabbage and a pile of broccoli completed the meal. By the way, servings are huge. A «small» salad is big enough for four people, and the entrées come on a platter about 10 by 16 inches or so. You will probably need a box to take home what you can’t eat here. We finished up with some apple strudel a la mode, which was OK but the apple pieces were quite large and required a knife to cut them down to bite size. I wish that had been done by the cook. Otherwise, I would give Chef George’s six stars if I could. This place isn’t cheap, but absolutely worth it!

The food is delicious! The staff was great! We will definitely be back and will recommend it to everyone. The stuffed cabbage was yummy, the portions are huge. Four of us shared a small Greek salad and I could have shared my cabbage rolls, but ended up bringing ½ of it home and having the next day and it was just as good!

We absolutely loved this place. Every single thing about it. The staff was warm and real and it was like being at a restaurant you’ve been a million times, only it was our first time. The portions are HUGE. I mean really large. We shared a large greek salad(you must have the greek salad), then we each ordered an entrée. We have enough leftover food for two more meals. The food is rich and heavy but absolutely wonderful and tasty. We had the Chicken Parm, the spaghetti, and the paprikash. We finished off with the strudel, which we shared. This is our new favorite neighborhood restaurant.

Usually dinning at Chef George is an absolute spectacle. One of the most amazing meals I can think of, but this last visit had me wanting to leave before the meal began. We were quickly seated to our regular table, after a few minutes perusing the already memorized menu we ordered. We were told that the paella, bouillabaisse, pork, and split pea soup were all out, yet we arrived when they opened. My sister has Celiac’s so this already limited menu was almost impossible to navigate. The waitress suggested my sister order the seafood linguini with mash potatoes instead of the pasta; she reluctantly agreed. No more than 5 minutes later the very nice waitress returned and announced that the chef and owner would not deviate his dish for an allergy. Now usually I would understand the no substitution rule but when you do not offer 25% of the menu it becomes appauling to say the least. My table asked why they were not serving the main dishes and the response was that they cook the paella and bouillabaisse days in advanced and serve over those days. Apparently they ran out on Friday and decided to be either too lazy or ignorant to prepare more. The thought that they prepare the meal days in advance also left a terrible taste in my mouth. This once great restaurant has dwindled to this shabby shadow of itself.

If this is Eastern European food, somebody needs to redraw the maps. I have traveled in Poland, Russia and Hungary along with Estonia and Czech Republic. Authentic dishes there were not hard to make even when ingredients were hard to come by. What excuse can this place provide in Bermuda Dunes? Whole Foods is nearby. This restaurant food quality is on the level of Subway Sandwiches, hiding in large portions. Overpriced and poorly staffed. The owners need a course in customer management as this place seems more like a hobby than a restaurant. Wine list is good but missed my favorite«bad» wine Egri Bikaver(Bulls Blood). I would fire everyone serving as they hopeless. Bring in chef Ramsey for a makeover.

This place is so sweet, and so wonderful. It is tucked in a corner of a mall that if you did not know about it you would not know it’s there. Its a well kept secret. The food is perfect, the fresh Parisian Pea Soup is spectacular, and the corned beef and cabbage is served all year round. The owner is so sweet and a special treat is how she greets everyone of her customers as they arrive at the door. Drinks are nice too, and inside it gives you a feel of old world dining. Wonderful wait staff and service. Large portions that could be shared by two. Oh and try the Greek small Salad, it can be shared for two its that large, you won’t be sorry. This place is special and we will be going back soon. Check it out.

Stopped in PDesert for the night. Found Chef George on Unilocal.Very early for dinner, some signature dishes not available until later. Eager but inexperienced server didn’t communicate with kitchen(soup as a main for light eater) so one entrée was apparently held while order was clarified and was served cold. Dining room busy so one of us had to go to kitchen for assistance. Food was delicious. Servings generous. Asked for boxes, had to go back to kitchen to retrieve leftovers. Dining room is a charming California Desert interpretation of Mittel Europe(IMO) complete with violin music.

I have been passing this location for years on my commute to the office and finally, after working late the at the office, decided to stop in for dinner. Do not expect chic, elegant dining as that is not what this quaint and a little cheeky restaurant gives you. But, you will enjoy delightful surroundings and wonderful food. First the bread, while is it not warm it is a hearty whole grain with pats of butter that are actually spreadable(bonus points in my book). The Greek Salad is all and more that is raved about by previous diners. Just keep in mind it’s HUGE and enough for 4 people. I will be eating salads for lunch the rest of the week. The menu is expansive with a wonderful choice of selections and I finally decided on the Chicken Marsala. I was surprised by the rich, creamy sauce which is just the way I prefer this dish. The portions are large so again, I will be eating leftovers for a day or so. Unfortunately I did not leave room for the Apple Strudel but I will indulge on my next visit. Dinner was paired with a nice Washington State Riesling and the tab with tip was $ 55.22. A little note; if you arrive and order before 5:30 they will give you a 5% discount on the entre, not a lot but it helps. The server and part owner Alicia(I am sure I am spelling this wrong and she pronounced it Alleesheia) was charming, friendly and gracious to a solo diner. This could quickly become a favorite as I go back to try different dishes. Salute !

Fun– Lana is an incredibly energetic, hysterical woman who served us. Literally she never stops running with huge delicious platters of Hungarian food. Loved the Greek salad and the goulash. Soups amazing-pea and mushroom. You could make a meal with soup and salad by itself and truly that is not a bad way to go. But– then you would miss the goulash! The décor and strip mall are unimpressive but the Greek salad takes your mind off of it That and Lana. She persuaded us to order Strudel — How can you pass up Lana inviting you to «StRRRUUUel» in her accent? Think next time I will pass on that but really, soup and salad would suffice. Fun with a large group to share it family style. Will return.

This is one of those out of the way places that you must have a local(or someone fabulous on Unilocal) tell you about. The strip mall is hideous and the décor will have you rubbing your eyes but the food is pretty darn tasty if you know what to order. GETTHEGREEKSALAD to start. It is worth mentioning now that all of the food is weved on huge plates. The salad can easily feed three as an appetizer and two for a main course. The other entrees are huge, too. Stick with the specialties of the house. Spaghetti bolognese, chicken marsala… I imagine the apple strudel is the bomb but we were all too full. We came with a large party and Lana was very sweet, helpful and the food came out at a good pace. Worth trying.
