Okay, this is the place next to jupiter… Best Gyro ever! I get the original lamb gyro with the hot sauce on the side. yum. I also like the dolmas. The variety is great too, the chicken gyro was surprisingly tasty. I realize that there are some questionable Unilocal here, but I will tell you for a fact that Twisters is under new management, and I go there every week… so good!

A good vegan falafel sandwich for cheap in a pinch, but I am pretty sure any falafel sandwitch is vegan. There is a menu that clearly designates what is vegan and what is not, so it very convenient and I commend them for being accommodating to vegans. But(and this is the same but with many falafel places) they still serve lamb and it is a little disturbing for any vegan to order lunch and watch lamb being sliced off of a fiery spinning meat slab. Good in a pinch or on a budget.

Gyro lunch special of gyro, fries and soda for $ 6.95. The girl working today was extremely nice. Rolled pita filled with beef/lamb meat, lettuce, tomato, tzatziki, and a little hot sauce. This was your typical Kronos Gyro(see (the smiling woman in the Twisters pictures is directly from the Kronos website)). It tasted OK with nice fresh veggies. I should have asked for more hot sauce. The fries were cooked to order and came out piping hot, but several were undercooked. I’m not a big Kronos guy(tastes a little processed to me), but I may come back to try their falafel.

this is, without a doubt, the WORST food I have ever eaten! I love Middle eastern food and especially gyros. this place has the worst in the area. the food was bland, poorly seasoned and drowned in a terrible sauce, not sure what it was. the server/cashier and I assume, cook, was uninvolved and didn’t seem to care that the food is awful. I will never eat there again. avoid at all costs!

So I guess I’m the first to review this place — I’m not sure if it just opened but to my knowledge it’s been there every day since I started work at the Brower Center right around the corner. So this is really more like three and a half stars, but I wanted to give it the fourth one because 1. the girl working was super friendly and nice 2. there’s an entire VEGAN section on their menu and 3. you can get a falafel wrap for under 5 dollars. ba-bam. i was happy. So yeah vegans — listen up you can get an assortment of their wraps at a decent price, and they’re pretty good… That being my reason for not giving them 5 stars. When I first when in my reaction was that it was like a Subway if Subway were greek. There were cookies and chips for sale, and you could get a gyro value menu with fries and a coke.(So maybe it’s like if McDonalds and Subway had a baby in Greece) One thing i wish I’d notice earlier was the soups — they make their soup daily, and a serving is only $ 2.(Excuse my contstant commenting on the price — since my ‘work’ and the Brower Center is only an internship, and an unpaid one at that, as a currently poor student i am constantly checking the price of everything) Now let me comment on what I actually ate. I saw a sign advertising a falafel wrap with avocado this morning, at which time i strictly reminded myself that i had brought food for lunch, and should not be spending any more money on going out to eat! Fast forward to 2 pm. Lunch has been eaten. Still hungry. The thought of falafel + avocado was too much to handle during this semi-stressful day, so i decided to go check it out. On my walk there I was wondering if they would have anything vegan — most greek/mediterranean restaurants are pretty good with that but who knows they could be throwin’ tzatziki all over the place. So that’s why i was so excited to see the VEGANMENU and after some deliberation, decided on the avocado/falafel thing i saw advertised. The really nice girl working there let me know what it was actually guacamole, not avocado which was fine by me, i like the taste either way, although i would have preferred fresh avocados. Since I was the only customer in at 2pm, service was very efficient I think I was out of there within 5 minutes. So I really wasn’t expecting too much — which at first was accurate. My first bite involved mainly lettuce, and it was approximately of the quality you would get at say… subway or mcdonalds. but then! I bit into a falafel and it was deeeeeelicious. It tasted totally fresh and hot and soft, exactly how I’d want it. The girl asked me if I liked it spicy, and I said yes which left with some questionable sauce that, although it made it spicy it kind of made the taste a little weird. But all in all a satisfying falafel experience. And a good location making it easy for me to stop by for lunch.

I saw the reviews below and thought how could Hummus and falafel be that bad. after all they are my favorite foods. On my way to the bart station i passed by to check it out. i asked a few questions and apparently they have just took over the business in july 08 and trying things out. So i put my brave hat on and ordered a falafel Sandwich. Needless to say it was heavenly… really DELICIOUS soft and soggy with tahini sauce. yummmm. I also tried their Meat Giros and Chicken Giros. They are both really good. never judge after the first impression. could be deceiving

seriously, i had no idea a falafel could be this gross! i love falafel, but this crumbly dry thing that tasted like it had been left unwrapped in the fridge for a few days was ick-Y. on top of that, the sandwich wasn’t cheap. paying $ 6.40 for something that unsatisfying is just not okay. and yes, the service is crazy slow. honestly, i wish there was something nice i could say about this place… i suppose i could mention that the cashier had a friendly smile. that’s the best i can do.

I am always looking for lunch places in Glorious Downtown Berkeley. On my way to the Bus Stop I was excited to see a sign for Gyros, Falafel, Hummus. Some of my favorite foods. Much more necessary for existence than the cookie franchise who were at this spot until very recently. Duty called! Everyone will want to know what Elle has to say about this very new quick food place. Well, everyone, don’t bother, you had best go elsewhere. If this place survives the month, mayhap I will try again. The falafel– dry and tasteless. The sauce on the sandwich? The same bottled salad dressing as on the dull iceberg lettuce salad which accompanies your«meal» The sandwich was put together very very slowly by a 17 year old, well certainly inexperienced food worker. Chef Ramsey would have let loose with all the expletives at his command(we can almost write the script, bleeps included) So the search for good inexpensive goes on. But don’t worry folks, I shall never give up my recherches.
