Worst burrito I’ve ever had. Decent size for the price but the meat tasted rancid. Gave me a horrible stomachache. Thank god it closed down a week later.

I’ll have to try it for Greek next time. I’ve been wandering these sullen streets looking for decent Mexican food and haven’t found it. I think there was yogurt in the burrito. And they don’t have pork. I tried their fish taco, that was good, a big delicious piece of fish on bed of veggies. Also the fish taco price beats the price of the taqueria a block away.

I got a super burrito and Mexican coke, and paid about $ 12. It was a decent size, but nothing special. I thought it was over priced for what I got.

When Mediterranean Wraps recently replaced its sign with a new one that proclaimed it Cal Taqueria, I didn’t believe it at first. Yes, there was a bear taking a swipe at(or walking by – I can’t remember) a strangely large, poorly drawn burrito – or is it a tostada? Anyway, there was that bear, and the interior seemed to have a new paint job, but the same friendly worker was still behind the counter, and I saw the spit for the gyros. So Mediterranean Wraps had simply changed its name and added Mexican food to draw in more customers, right? Wrong. Mediterranean Wraps is no more. Cal Taqueria is owned by the same people, and the same guy works here, but they’ve gotten rid of everything Mediterranean except the gyros. That’s bad news for me; I’m vegetarian, and I really liked the falafels. They also ditched the smoothies, which is fine because they were too runny. Time will tell whether they have also permanently retired the gyros sign with the Brooke Shields lookalike. I had a super vegetarian burrito from Cal Taqueria on Wednesday, and it was all right. Not the best burrito I’ve ever had, but not bad either. And it was cheap. The hot sauce they use is pretty interesting. I know I’ve complained so much about Berkeley’s lack of Mexican options and the overabudance of falafel places, so I guess I’m to blame for another mediocre taqueria replacing the best falafel in Downtown Berkeley. I’ll give the place many more tries and adjust my rating as necessary.
