Yeah, it’s a McDonalds, and I dare you to find a truly good one. I give this place five stars because they do a service to the elderly people who do not have much money, and who just want to take a break from the dismal sidewalk of hell on Shattuck Ave. They seem to be temporarily closed for renovation, and I hope that they reopen soon. Any bad experiences are canceled out by the good they do, IMHO.

As of December 7, it looks like it is closed and the inside is being renovated. I didn’t see any signs about a reopening date.

This place is different from other McDonalds locations because they always run out of things. Around 10pm i went to this location to find out they were out of all ice cream.

Wow. Worst McDs experience ever. You’re better off not eating than coming here. What establishment verifies $ 10 bills to ensure they’re not counterfeit? After I left I realized they gave me sausage McMuffins instead of sausage biscuits with egg. I go back and explain they gave me the wrong sandwiches and the clerk, who I believe was a manager, tells me what I want is costs more. I show her my receipt and only then does she realizes she F’d up my order. She eventually gives me what I paid for. The worst part was she took the wrong sandwiches she gave me, the sandwiches I left the establishment with, the sandwiches I opened and inspected with my hands, and put them back with the rest of the fresh sandwiches. Gross. I even offered to take them and give to one of the many homeless residing outside but she said no.

This is hands down the worst fast food store I have ever been in or near. It is unclear why McDonalds even keeps this location open. This spot has taken up a reputation of being a base camp for a large group of homeless people, and I get harassed every time I even just walk on the sidewalk outside of it. Going inside is orders of magnitude worse in terms of harassment — and there is no where to walk away to while waiting in line or waiting for your order. It is absolutely stunning that the employees are so jaded to it all and they do nothing to deal with the most problematic patrons.

You can’t really expect much from a Mcdonalds, they are all over the world, and are all identical for the most part. This one is just like the others around, it’s dirty, full of loitering bums, and busy as S***; especially during lunchtime.

I know it’s McDonald’s and the People’s Republic of Berkeley can’t support it but the staff was very kind and I was just in the mood for an egg mcmuffin. Breakfast for less than 5 bucks. They just need to install electrical outlets in the dining room.

OMG if I could give a zero rating, I honestly would! This place SUCKS. Not only do they mess up your order, but when you attempt to call them to state the issue, you can’t get through on the damn phone because the fax machine takes over. I tried to call since yesterday and finally got through this morning at 6:00am. A male answered and when I asked for a manager, he rudely said, «What do you want, were to busy»! I once again asked if he was the manager, «NO» we are busy! I tried to explain the issue with my order and he rudely hung up on me! I immediately called back and spoke to the manager, «Nancy». Talk about another rude individual! First off… Were in America, so get some employees who speak English, and don’t just use the word, OK… Secondly… When a customer tried to explain a negative experience with your company and tries to make a report against the rudeness of your staff, don’t try to defend them by saying, «Were busy», listen to the complaint and handle it professionally or go back to your country where perhaps rudeness is accepted! Nancy obviously isn’t cut out for customer service, as I was hung up on by her too! When I called back to request the corporate #, she didn’t seem to know it. Being a manager, you need have knowledge of this information. I see why this restaurant has such poor ratings! The staff and management treat their customers like shit! I’ll never return!

This filthy McDonald’s is the only fast food restaurant near the UC Berkeley campus. It’s more like a violation of the Geneva Conventions more than a McDonalds.

If you want quick and greasy food this is the place. The environment on the other hand is not so great. There are a lot of homeless people around and it can be intimidating. But the mcflurry’s are awesome, and I love the chicken mcnuggets.

I hadn’t tried McDonald’s in months so I decided to try this place and I ordered the usual: a mcchicken, medium fries, and a coke! I have to say, the staff was friendly compared to the other McDonald’s I’ve been to back in SoCal so I applaud them for their service! And it’s awesome that the homeless have a place to keep warm, but it is kind of sad that they scavenge for your leftover food once you leave and watch you when you are eating! Also, it’s pretty sketchy when people come in to the bathroom with nothing and walk out with a green bag in their hands. Drug activity perhaps?

Spring Break 2015 in CA… Not in the habit of reviewing McDonald’s stores… but I guess visiting earns a review. This one was pretty typical… nothing to make it stand out. Food was the usual and good here because it was warm. Bathrooms were pretty dirty, but at least they worked. The whole place could use a bit of cleaning up, but they have a pretty hard way to go here with the public. Just a few short blocks from the main campus of the University of California-Berkeley…this McDonald’s is filled with street peeps — either inside or right outside at the door — and that is a drawback… but then just about anything on Shattuck Avenue in Berkeley will have this. But even with the drawbacks, you get something familiar at a McDonald’s.

I mean for what it is, yes, this probably is the worst McDonald’s location I’ve ever stepped foot in. I would rather others make the safer trek down to Telegraph, but for everything this location has to go through, I really can’t help but pity this place. Yes, this McDonald’s is really terrible, but can you really blame it on them? It literally sits in one of the shadiest areas of Berkeley. If you think about it for a moment, if you placed any other business here, it would be hard for them to survive there as well. I give them props for still being here. Yes, the ambiance is shady, but keep in mind that the area is already prone to homeless and desperate panhandlers, so you shouldn’t be too surprised. The food itself is okay. Nothing really above or below your typical McDonald’s standard food, but the cleanliness of this establishment makes me a bit wary nonetheless. Customer service wasn’t the greatest either. I went in the morning and ordered 2 breakfast sausage burritos. Gave them a $ 20 bill and apparently all of the registers ran out of change. WHATMCDONALDSORFASTFOODJOINTRUNSOUTOFCHANGE?! Keep in mind I came during the morning, way before lunch rush, so it wasn’t very crowded then. I had to stand aside and wait for other people to order so my cashier had to collect change and pay me back. Kinda annoying, but the cashier did apologize for the inconvenience. Also felt bad for the person behind me in line as well, I saw he paid with a $ 20 bill as well and he also had to wait in another separate line to get change back. Get it together, McDonalds. Tsk tsk. Moving along to my sausage burrito, it was probably the smallest burrito I’ve seen, every other typical McDonald’s joint seemed to be portioned bigger. Presentation was poor as well. Took one bite and melted cheese exploded everywhere. You poor, disappointingly folded burrito. Having explosive food wasn’t really supposed to be on my mind today, let alone on my clothes. Thanks McDonalds!

A lot of people are giving this branch a lot of flak, but you have to take the place for what it is. You may find some rather unsavory characters in the premises, but no one to my knowledge has been prevented from ordering food here. I’m writing this review mainly for the staff; they are troopers for putting up with all kinds of crap(literally and figuratively), and still maintaining a functioning franchise. This is not the best McDonald’s on the face of the earth, but you’ll receive earnest service.

I always thought that all McDonald’s across America were very standardized — that you could go to any branch and have very comparable experiences. I was wrong. This is the filthiest McDonald’s I have ever been to. The food is served cold. The tables are dirty. I’m pretty sure eating here is hazardous to your health.

Quite possibly the worst McD’s around. Food was typical McDs. On a Friday around 1pm, the clientele ranged from students to homeless. While I was eating a crazy lady started shouting at another customer«don’t touch my sh! t, I’ll f@$& you up». The customer she was yelling at looked shocked. Place stinks. The kicker is they don’t do soft drink refills. Every other fast food joint does. Not all these issues are the fault of McDs. Workers were real nice. But still, if you want to enjoy your lunch in a pleasant atmosphere, don’t come here.

This McDonald’s here in beautiful downtown Berkeley is great for breakfast or lunch grab and takeaway. It has come in handy for me during my days at Berkeley City College and currently at UC Berkeley. This McDonald’s has been here since I was in my teen angst years. The food here is pretty good, up to the usual standards that McDonald’s has. I would not eat in at this location if I can avoid it. If I am with The Mother, we have to eat in here. I pretty much echo the exact same sentiments as the other Unilocal!reviewers before me. The clientele that hang out here leave pretty much to be desired and contribute to the atmosphere that makes it a minus for me. That is all I am going to say. The food is good, the service is pretty fast. The employees are pleasant and professional. Sometimes I run into a familiar face, I run into a manager at this McDonalds who might be managing another McDonald’s location on another day. Usually a good sign for me. McD’s in Berkeley is A-OK with me! SYOY! Ciao!

You know those times when you think to yourself«f*** this place!»? Walked in to 2 employees behind the counter arguing about one of their shifts. Arguing is a nice term, more like bellowing. Ordered 2 soft serves. Employee 1 yells at employee 2 to help her. Employee 2 walks over phone to ear and one-hands that soft serve machine and gives it to me. It literally looked like a bird went diarrhea all over a cone. Already melting, dripping everywhere, sagging to one side. Its at this precise moment when I thought to myself«f*** this place». Gave the soft serve back to employee 1 and walked out. If they cant even get your soft serve right, just imagine actually ordering food there.

I agree with Eric’s review. The people here are mostly glum. Omg. I went this morning and the bums were in line to use the restroom. I realized that they don’t leave out napkins so the bums don’t take them to use as toilet paper. Ugh. Lots of bums. Or strange people. Sometimes students. But there’s no background music and it’s so awkward. Plus there were alarms constantly going off this morning. Some tables are missing. The interior is really dull. Not kid friendly at all. No napkin or condiment table. But the food is still good and hot. Parking is easy before 8am. Not the best but ok for Berkeley.
