Maybe it was the high expectations I had coming in, but this Blue Bottle stand disappointed. The coffee I ordered took 10+ minutes to arrive(go shopping or grab food at Andy and Cindy’s in the meantime) and was terribly acidic and bitter. Plus it’s super expensive :( As a side note, this stand is ridiculously efficient, with all the coffee basically brewed by one person. He moves between making the hand drip coffee, boiling water, and serving the drinks without wasting any time… impressive?

Macchiatos are very good. Drip coffee is bitter, sour and nasty.

The coffee is rich in flavor. For those that like dark roast coffee, you probably will be disappointed because they are more toward light to medium roast. The line can be long sometimes, but I usually don’t have to wait more than 5 mins(after ordering). And yes, they are pricey if you are compare to a starbucks coffee.

I love going to bluebottle to take a break from the campus scene and get some quality coffee not found in my college-town. The shop itself is clean and simple in a homy way. The lines are always healthy, not too long, especially if you’re chatting with a friend and not too short, because you dont want to just go in and out but want to have a nice blue bottle experience. There are pastries available ans friendly staff. The roastery is right there in the back as well; there are weekly cupping sessions(twice a week actually), and their coffee book is something I have had my eye on. These guys love coffee, have an idea of what coffee should be and want to bring their coffee culture to the Bay Area so come check them out!

Is there a zero star option, Unilocal? I freaking love coffee. Sometimes when I’m bored I even read articles on better ways to brew coffee. Yes, coffee interests me that much. Blue Bottle Employees, can you at least freaking smile? Can you not give me the smuggest, most pretentious look possible as I fork over $ 5 for your product? I would appreciate that. I like my coffee almost black, with just a splash of cream. When I put my splash of cream into the cup of coffee I had just bought, I noticed there was still an inch left in the cup that could be filled more with coffee. I asked the guy if he could fill my cup to the top and he replied«We brew our coffee by the cup.» and then just looked at me like I was an idiot for even asking. I was on my 15 minute break from work, on a fieldtrip with 30 of my students who were earshot of me. Instead of making a scene in front of my students, I said to myself«Whose cup are you talking about?! Mine or yours, cuz mine is pretty empty!” — walked away, and swore to never give them business ever again. Ps — for those Unilocalers that do acknowledge the pretentious service at Blue bottle but still go because«their coffee is sooooo good” — there is much better coffee out there. Trust. Ritual, 4 Brothers, Philz, or you could just make it yourself.

Apparently there are a few haters out there. All I can say is if you don’t like Blue Bottle than move along, get out of the way and shut your face! Go get yourself a Starbucks or better yet a cup of Folgers instant. The Blue Bottle Coffee version of a Latte is smooth, rich and has a great flavor. If you don’t agree with me than please move to San Jose so the line will be shorter for me. Sure its smug, pretentious, too hip and all the things I usually make fun of, BUT, somehow when I wasn’t looking, I got addicted to Blue Bottle Coffee. Crap! Anyway, join us Zombies and drink on…

Honestly, I don’t understand the hype. Is it too much to ask that the people who are willing to stand in line for 20 minutes for some pretentious yuppie individually dripped coffee move the queue so that they aren’t blocking the entire walk way? Every cup of drip coffee I have had from Blue Bottle tastes totally burned — it’s bitter and burned tasting. I have better things to do with my shopping time at any farmer’s market than to stand in line for a cup of bitter, burned tasting drip coffee for 20 minutes.

Undrinkable. We should have gone to the stand inside that had the huge line. We got coffee at the stand outside by the farmer’s market and perhaps the water was really old or the beans were bad. I don’t know. But it was GROSS. Clearly, this place is famous for a reason so just steer clear of the outdoor stand and I’m sure you’ll be fine. :)
