Maytag Customer Service

Sigh.
Three and a half years ago my wife and I bought our first place and knew we needed all new appliances. Went with a brand name you can trust, you know? Maytag. Big stickers. 10 Year limited warranty. Sure. Sounds and looks great, especially for the budget. 1.5 years into it, our Front load Maytag Maxima Washing machine was having issues draining. We’d remove the wet clothes, rinse them by hand in the sink, and dry them in the dryer. This only happened a handful of times until I got a new drainage hose and things seemed to be fine.
Got an error code message this week (3.5 years after install) saying pretty much the computer is failing. Can’t even start a load now. I call a local guy. Says it’s $ 500 to fix parts and labor. My $ 1000 washing machine will cost $ 500 to fix it. Called Maytag telling them what this guy said and they referred me to their maytag affiliate out here to fix it. They said about $ 400 if that is the problem but they need to diagnose the issue and it’s $ 139 to do that.
Both Jared (sp?) and Melissa were nice in helping me get lined up with the service company but what about the cost? Farrah I believe, was also kind when I called Maytag a third time. I started by calmly asking her what number I needed to call to complain about the product and she said I had the right number. I proceeded to tell her this story. She told me that the issue would get passed on to the engineering department. «What does that do for me?» I very calmly stated. She let me know if anything came up that I would be in contact. Better not hold me breath.
My issue is Maytag selling these pieces of garbage, and the marketing team hiding the fact that they know this is going to be an issue. I’d also like my issue addressed not just noted to help the next guy.
I’ll put a 100 year warranty on stating it will always be a washing machine by definition. Doesn’t help the fact that it only guarantees it is a washing machine. Doesn’t mean you’ll have it working years to come.
I thought I might need to get it serviced after 8 or so years but paying half the cost to fix it in 3? Unacceptable.
Do not buy Maytag. Do not be duped by the marketing schemes. If it has a computer, it will fail. My sister in law has her grandma’s washer from the 70s. Maybe I’ll take this out back with a baseball bat and get a reliable washer for less than the $ 500 to fix this one.

My husband and I were looking to purchase a new washing machine a month before I was due to have my son. Anyone who has children understands the value of a dependable washing machine. Unfortunately the Maytag Centennial was far from that. I was barely home from the hospital (only about a day) and my washer stopped working. At this point the washer was less than a month old.
I called Maytag to try and see if they would be able to fix the problem. They sent someone out to the house the next day. They diagnosed the problem and said they would have to order a part. The bad news came when they said that it would be another 5 days before they would be able to fix the washer. The part would be in on Friday but They could get around to coming over until Monday.
I explained to them that this would be very inconvenient for me as I was not able to drive to the laundromat since I was just out of the hospital and my husband was now back at work. All they could respond was that they stood by their warrantee and that they felt their course of action was not only acceptable but considering my circumstances they were doing an above average job. At this point I got upset and asked for a brand new washer or at the very least a refund so I could go out and buy another washer. At this point all I really cared about was getting clean clothes for my son. The manager was arrogant enough to tell me that he had the authority to replace my washer or refund my money but that was going to just stand by the warrantee and make me wait 5 days. My husband volunteered to drive to pick up the part at the appliance store in an attempt to try and fix it himself but Maytag told us no.
I just find it unacceptable that a brand new washing machine would break within a month of buying it. Not only was the product defective but the response by the customer service department left me feeling unfulfilled.

I clicked Self Clean Button on my free range oven. It got very very hot and the inside door glass exploded and shattered in pieces.
I contacted Maytag to report defect and malfunction.
The online chat Betty G. said, ‘if a certified repairman says it is a melon and a defect, we May determine how to fix it. Otherwise, it is older than one year and you decide if you want to buy another one or get it fixed if it can be fixed.’ I explained that waiting weeks and dealing with frustrations and costs is not the best customer serivce policy. She just ignored me; said, ‘thank you for contacting us’ and disconnected. WOW!
I recommend that you think twice before buying into their new commercials. It is the biggest regret of your appliance purchase, I promise. I thought Maytag was reliable and I was wrong. I thought they provide good support and repair, I was wrong. Hope you do not make my mistake.

We purchased a «package» of Maytag appliances in November 2012-​Washer, Dryer, Refrigerator, Microwave and Dishwasher. The range is horrible. Oven temperature fluctuates up and down ~45−50 degrees. Burners all boil on low setting. We have had repairmen out here for the stove numerous times. Now we are on our extended 5 year warranty. Today was at least the 4^th visit on the range and we get the same old story. Can’t adjust the stove and can’t adjust the burners. That’s «normal» operation for this $ 899 range. We are fed up. Maytag customer says «too bad-you’re out of company warranty.» We thought we were getting quality, top of the line products, from a company who cared about their reputation and customer service. And to make matters worse apparently the repair/​warranty place has not kept accurate records of these visits.

I bought a Maytag Dishwasher less than three years ago. Recently the control panel stopped working. I called the 800 number listed in my manual. They sent out a local certified «Maytag Man» (yes, just like in the old commercials) who replaced the electrical control panel. It was not covered by the warranty and cost $ 387. This is almost the cost of a new machine! The repairman charged for the service call ($ 85) plus the cost of labor, which was $ 145. This seems excessive. Most appliance repairman apply the cost of the service call to the cost of the labor.
So the first thing that I am advising is DO NOT buy a Maytag Dishwasher because it won’t last you very long — and Secondly, if it does need repair and you want the certified factory repair, try to get an idea of the repair costs ahead of time so you are not surprised like me, otherwise do not call the Maytag Man.
Customer service is not Maytag’s specialty either — they give you a wide time range for the service call so you end up spending all day waiting for them to come. By 5pm he had not shown up so I called the customer service only to find out that the repairman was not given our unit number so he came and went away, rather than try to call or find the right unit (there are only 6). They said «sorry» and gave me another wide time range for the next day, so I had to waste two days for this expensive repair.

After an excruciating experience with Maytag, so much for service agreements, we decided to take a new path. Maytag had left us without a washer for over a month, on their last visit had brought a broken part and said they would be back after a new part got shipped to us. When we called about the part and when the service engineer would be coming out, they had no knowledge of either. DONE!!! We asked for our money back on our service agreement. What utter BS!!!
We called local repair shop got an appointment up within days. Service engineer got to work and in 5 minutes had the washer working. Guess what — no broken part or replacement part, just gunk in the works which he cleaned out. No more Maytag Repair Man it is now our Local Repair shop and Richard if we ever need help again. Maytag service staff and upport desk were completely clueless!
Do your self a favor and save money by using a local Unilocal reviewed local repair company!

Well, we had purchased a new Maytag Range with our new home in 2008. Needless to say, not even 4 years old and the grates on the top of the stove had just come apart. The black powder coating on them is chipping on most/​all of the grate points. I’ve contacted Maytag to let them know what has happened to my product and asked them to replace them, free of charge. Of course they say there is only a warranty of 1 year on replacement parts. SO, now if I want to replace them myself, I have to pay $ 80.00 for each grate? Get real! I explained to them that they should stand behind their products and replace them for me. What is my range going to look like in another 4 years? It already looks like it’s over 10 years old with all the peeling and metal showing. DON“T buy MAYTAG PRODUCTS!!! You get no where with this company and could care less about the customer. Kept saying «Well the warranty says», you know what, I work in a company that has warranties on our products and we always go above and beyond to help the customer out. Who cares what the warranty says. You have a faulty product and you should stand by your product and take care of your customers. Well, I should say I am no longer a MAYTAG customer.
