I decided to try Shichi for lunch today. On flavor and on service I would have given 4 stars. The Miso soup was good and the sushi tasted fresh and well seasoned. Where the 4th star went is on presentation and also the time it took to get my food. I had one of the lunch special and I still was there for an hour. Kudos to my server for checking with me several time to apologize for the delays. The other thing that bothered me a bit was presentation, one of the most important aspect of eating sushi in my opinion. The tools were loose and not well formed. Again, it tasted fresh but the poor presentation won’t make me go back there.

So we were bar hopping last night, and after The Wine Tap we craved sushi, and Seven Sushi is pretty much right across the street! Again, I love old downtowns and businesses that line the Main Street. Seated at the window and looking out at the light strings covering the road — it’s very charming. My standard disclaimer when it comes to sushi. I lived in Japan for 17yrs and my wife(who was with me last night) is Japanese, so we can be a little hard on Japanese restaurants outside of Japan. Seven Sushi came through, and I have to admit I was surprised. Little things like salmon row — it’s more common to find them beat up looking or «fishy». Not the case last night at Seven Sushi. I went with a jalapeño tuna roll that was great — not dripping in some sweet bottled sauce. We had a few other pieces of traditional sushi, and a carafe of saki, and everything was great. Looking forward to my next visit!

This place had outside sitting and we were delighted that the rain held off and we could enjoy the evening. Our server Anna was eager to serve us, it was her second day as a waitress… She had only tried two rolls so she could not make a good suggestion for what we should try. The person that I was with was very knowledgeable about sushi, so I left the ordering up to him. We had the spicy ginger roll, It was a little too spicy for my taste, so we head to the next roll California roll, I have had this before and it was more to my liking. The waitress had suggested the Hot Spring roll, it had mixture of seafood and vegetables. I wanted something sweet to finish our meal, I ordered the New York Cheesecake Caramel Apple roll. It was a Fuji apple, with a fried outer coating, served on a bed of whipped cream and drizzled with chocolate. Delicous… I had the plum wine and he had the Zin. Great place, wonderful presentation, great service and delightful outside seating.

Such a cute/hip little sushi bar! The sushi was absolutely amazing! My cocktails were in point. And the deserts were delicious(a bit small, but still good) ! They played great music. And everything was priced jus right!

I just recently relocated to the Belleville area and after reading reviews of sushi restaurants on Unilocal I decided to give this one a try. And I am so glad I did. The sushi was amazing! The best I’ve had in a long time, it was so fresh and the service was wonderful. The waitress was attentive without being overbearing and made sure we never wanted for anything. The atmosphere is nice, slightly sophisticated without feeling too fancy and relaxing. They also share a kitchen with the adjoining bar so if you’re like me, and have to bring a guest with you who doesn’t like sushi, they can order off the other menu which included subs and other bar food. This is currently my new favorite sushi bar. I will be back often

Nice place, service was great, and the sushi was delicious! A touch pricey unless you can get a weekday lunch special, bit overall really good! We’ll go again.

In from NJ and went right for the Volcano Roll. No regrets! Good service and great atmosphere. This will be our ritual when in Belleville. Good beer selection too.

I was born and raised in Belleville, but moved to NYC20 years ago. I have been to Nobu, Per Se, Sushi Den, amazing restaurants in NYC. The sushi I had here was comparable, but the service was even better. Our server, Issac, was knowledgable, accommodating, attentive and pleasant. I wish I could give 10 stars! I never thought the day would come that I’d say I had amazing sushi in Belleville!

I have to agree with Chuck F. and Cherie O’s reviews, they are pretty much spot on. This place has the potential to be so much better. The atmosphere is nice but the audible security system is distracting and annoying. The sushi was ok but not very big portions for the money compared to the other sushi bar’s in the metro east. The staff was friendly but somewhat awkward. They struggled with how to greet, seat, and take reservations for Valentine’s night. Our waitress was overwhelmed tending the bar and other tables and trying to seat people. A little better planning and shut off the alarm would go a long way.

My wife and I have been wanting to go to this sushi bar for quite some time. We decided to go and was very underwhelmed with our experience. There was a party up front so we had to site in the back by the bar. No big deal to us until we heard the security system cherp about every 45 seconds or so. We figured out everytime somebody opened the front or(connecting) back door, the alarm system would make a noise and it got old, fast. The service was very friendly and prompt. But we were not very impressed with the amount of food for the price. We usually go to our regular sushi place and comparing it to that, we did not think it was a good value. The rolls were the size of less than a quarter and we believed that there wasn’t much flavor to them either. This could have been based on what we ordered, but we did order of the ‘designer’ sushi side of the menu. All said and done, we will not be returning to this place and will be sticking with our usual ‘go to’ sushi place.

Service was good, but the sushi wasn’t great. Spicy tuna roll was poorly rolled and the fish did not look very fresh. Only ate a couple of pieces before deciding it was best to leave it on the plate. Perhaps they have better items than this one?

I cheated on my favorite sushi bar today. Cheating’s not all that it’s cracked up to be. A friend and I decided we sorely needed to catch up as we hadn’t seen each other in three months. Since she had a gift certificate she wanted to use, we decided to come here. The good stuff about this place is very superficial. It definitely adds to Main Street. The décor is pretty simple and elegant. There are two stand alone tables, a communal table, and two rows of tables with chairs and row seating. There is a separate bar area in the back, which I didn’t venture into, but I guess becomes the entertainment center come nightfall. So I walk in, and the staff is awkwardly doing stuff and telling me I can choose a table somewhere. Well. One entire row of your chair/row seating is filled with dirty dishes and glasses; the other is semi occupied. I don’t want to take the four-person table, and I don’t want to sit by myself at the communal table. All that’s basically left is your two person table by the window(but at least it was warm inside) underneath the speakers(which was super loud). However, after that amateur staff gaffe, service was good, if albeit sweetly awkward. This pretty much earned the extra star. If you do go, do go for lunch. They actually have five lunch specials, which is more than other sushi places. They also let you choose your nigiri pieces if you order it with the lunch special, but do reserve the right to ask you to choose another piece. I went with the option of 2 regular rolls and 3 nigiri pieces($ 12.95). Lunch special prices are definitely higher than other lunch specials at other places. The other regular prices are also slightly higher, but pretty comparable to other sushi bars in the Metro East area. They have«original rolls», which basically means sushi rolls that you’ve most likely seen before in some combination or another if you know your sushi, but under a different unique name, which fails to impress me. So I ordered the spicy tuna roll and the Philadelphia roll for my regular rolls. They were… okay. The spicy tuna roll tasted just like a regular tuna roll without any extra kick. The Philadelphia roll was mushy and bland. It really almost felt like the rolls that come out of Dierberg’s. If you can’t do the basic rolls consistently, I feel like it’s not worth it to try the more complicated ones because those are the ones where the simplicity of the fish is hidden by tempura, eel sauce, and spicy mayo. You might as well mix ketchup, relish, and mustard together and call it a day. I ordered the hamachi(yellowtail), kani(snow crab), and tako(octopus) for my nigiri pieces. I actually wanted the toro(fatty tuna) and the uni(sea urchin), but I was told that they weren’t in season(whatever that means, especially because toro has a winter season and uni has catch limits in the summer usually); if you don’t have it, just say so. The best by far was the tako; it was perfectly poached and slightly chewy without feeling like I was gnawing on jerky. The hamachi was definitely fresh, but I didn’t get much of a taste or aftertaste. The kani was terrible; it felt like eating paper. Shichi’s not terrible; I would say it’s on par with the other sushi places in the Metro East like Sake, Sushi Ai, and Shogun. In other words, it’s just ok. It has far to go to even be compared to coastal sushi bars. PS. I guess this place turns into a bar after sushi hours. The website mentions lots of drinking and music.

Really good. So glad Belleville is coming up in the world. This restaurant adds to the revitalization of the town. The sushi is great and fresh. Lots of original rolls, many of them are with cooked fish so there is something for everyone. I tried the lemon drop roll which was amazing!!! I’m from California and this restaurant is on par with the quality you can get out there. Give it a try! Might be your new favorite place.

Very fresh sushi! We got 4 rolls: Bellvegas, Lemon Drop, Sinichi, and rainbow roll. They were all good. The atmosphere was very nice… nothing like a little Otis Redding playing while drinking some wine. Service was great as well. Bill was very friendly… This might be our new favorite sushi place. This is a must try at least once for all you sushi lovers!

Only until a few months ago, the building that houses Shichi Sushi Bar was the longtime home of Marvin’s Cameras. The owners of nearby Seven Restaurant saw an opportunity with the Main Street store front and decided Belleville was in need of a sushi bar. It’s no accident, then, that they decided to name their sushi bar Shichi, which is Japanese for seven. Shichi opened the same weekend as the 2012 Art on the Square show in downtown Belleville. Belleville has one other sushi restaurant, but Shichi has the ambiance you would more closely associate with a sushi bar. In both visits, I was impressed with the freshness of the food and the seasonings. Many restaurants in the Belleville area are afraid to experiment with seasonings. Sushi, like Seven, isn’t, and that’s a good thing. I was pleased with the service during both my visits. My first visit was during Art on the Square, and I was impressed with how Shichi handled the sizable crowd.
